A contemporary studio apartment in a historic central Florence Limonaia. Located in a quiet private garden behind one of the city's most important Palazzos. The apartment has a private entrance, is compact with a queen sized sleeping loft that is reached via a short but relatively steep staircase. A fully equipped galley style kitchen, closets and large bathroom with walk in shower and bidet. Our apartment is suitable for a single or a couple. Much reading material, art filled walls, iPod dock, Sky cable TV, DVD player and WI-FI. This a safe and secure location with a daily doorman and the closest neighbor is the Four Seasons Hotel... A mobile phone to use while here can be arranged. We live onsite so if any little situations arise they can be dealt with quickly.
My wife and I are Americans that have lived in Italy for 13 years and travel extensively. We have tried to make our rental exactly what we would expect if we were the guests. For a city center location it is very quiet and peaceful. The complete garden and the benches around the fountain are for use by our guests but there is no outdoor space for dining/Bar-B-Q or sunbathing.
Unfortunately the mariner stairs to the sleeping loft makes this unsuitable for people with limited mobility.
Location: Central Florence, 1 block from Santissima Annunziata, two blocks from Pzz. San Marco and 3 blocks from The Duomo. Easy walk to anywhere.
I am an American businessman that came to Italy for the summer... that was 12 years ago.
We have fully renovated two historic properties and enjoy all that Italy has to offer.
We live here with our two younger daughters.
Bruce purchased this apartment in 2007
Our Limonaia is a one of a kind and we feel privileged to be the first family that calls it home in its 350+ year life and its current custodians.
Quiet, location, location, location
What an amazing apartment and amazing experience in Florence!
This apartment is a historical building set in the middle of a gorgeous courtyard. It feels like you are in your own private oasis. The apartment itself is large and very comfortable. In 2 weeks in Europe, it is the only place that we chose to go home early so we could just sit and relax there. The bedding is very comfortable. The shower has unlimited hot water. They have every little thing you could need in the apartment!
Also, it is important to note that we never once took a cab or any public transportation once we were there, we could way (within about 20 minutes at the farthest) everywhere we wanted to go. Extra bonus is that the duomo is about 5 minutes walking and visible from the building!
The "customer" service:
I put customer in quotation marks because that is not how we felt with the fernie family. We truly felt like special guests or even family. From the moment we got there it was the most inviting experience abroad you can imagine.
The first day we arrived it was our anniversary. They stocked the bar with a bottle of proseco then after asking what we would like to do for our big night, they made reservations in a window seat at the golden open bar restaurant on the river for us.
Any time we needed anything (including an extra electric converter/adapter) we simply knocked on their door and they helped us.
They made wonderful recommendations for food and activities for our stay and also provided maps and important information,
While it was VERY apparent we could knock on their door and ask for anything, they were not overwhelming. My husband was weary at first because he thought that this would be similar to a bed and breakfast where you are obligated to check in/out daily with the hosts. This was absolutely not the case, in fact we went almost 2 days without even seeing them.
We this apartment and family so much. We are certain that if we ever get to make it back to Florence, we will be staying here! Book now if you are heading that way!
Wonderfull and perfekt retreat to load up your batteries. The poperty, in a peacefull, and very quiete park - even nicer than the photos can tell, is just some hundered meters away from the duomo and all the famous spots one would like to see while in Firenze. Simply great. we loved it.
The Limonaia apartment was a sanctuary in the middle of busy Florence. Museums, restaurants, plazas, the Arno River are all in walking distance. After busy 6-9 hours a day of walking and touring, coming home to the Limonaia apartment was very relaxing. The owner, Bruce, is a very gracious and helpful host. On this visit, I was alone, visiting my daughter. I felt safe on the property, and going to/from the property, and in Florence overall. Next time my husband will return with me as he will love the gardens and ambience. Highly recommend this apartment if you want to have a place to recover from jet lag, see the sights and live elegantly. Total 5 star. Many thanks to the owners!
We arrived on a rainy day after a long flight and coordinated easily with Bruce. He is very responsive. He provided a warm welcome and orientation to the apartment which included a review of the kitchen which was equipped with essentials such as coffee, a chilled bottle of water and ingredients to whip up a pasta dish. Just enough to take the pressure off of running right back out to shop. The bedding and linens were luxurious and the apartment was clean. We made good use of the tourist info and resources located on the bookshelf -- especially enjoyed borrowing the pocket dictionary! The restaurant suggestions were spot on. There is good reading light next to the bed. we really enjoyed the beautiful and original art work throughout the apartment.
Mostly, we loved the light, the garden views and peaceful retreat into the piazza when we finished our touring in the wonderful city. Thank you Bruce and Family for sharing your little slice of heaven at a very fair price. It is a gem.

We spent a week staying at this gorgeous apartment while travelling in Italy on our honeymoon. The apartment is in the city centre but situated in the gardens of a palazzo and once you go through the gates into the garden you would think you were in the surburbs somewhere as it is incredibly peaceful. The apartment interior is wonderfully designed and decorated, feeling very modern but also classic. The description on the website was accurate and the apartment was as the pictures showed and incredibly clean and fitted to a high standard. It's location is 20mins walk from the train and bus station or 5 - 10mins on a bus and we found it very easy to walk everywhere. We were welcomed by the owners on arrival with an abundance of information about Florence and local amenities. They were very helpful and responded quickly to our enquiries whilst we were there. We would definitely stay there again with the Duomo 5 mins walk away it felt we were on the doorstep of all the sights. The owners have some recommendations for guests showing local restaurants and sights, we would definitely recommend the Accademia restaurant in the nearby San Marco square, an abolutely delightful evening was spent there. We would happily return to stay at this apartment or reccomend this to any friends/family.
The peace and tranquility of the classic gardens and the elegant yet comfortable surroundings at Limonaia added significantly to the success of our holiday in Florence. I would not hesitate to recommend this property and its charming and helpful owner-in-residence, Bruce. The location is perfect for exploring, and the Duomo at the center of old Florence is just a leisurely ten minutes walk away through a true neighborhood, and all conveniences and shops are even closer-by! Having the opportunity to cook at "home" made the evenings we chose to enjoy Florence's bistros all the more special. We now know that for us no trip to Florence would be complete without a stay at Limonaia.
