Just a short walk to the beach, a great gourmet grocery store and several restaurants, this house is in a really choice location, close enough to the village of Cocles so that everything is accessible but far enough so you can enjoy the forest tranquility. We have built with comfort in mind, properties located right on the beach, are hot, swampy and quite buggy in most seasons, our home is located 300yds from the beach, on a slight incline to catch the breeze.
Ask about our Welcome fruit basket and flowers as well as our spa treatment package. ,WI-FI, SATELLITE TV AND ADT SECURITY! Please take a close and careful look at other homes being offered in our area and I'm sure you will see that this home's location and amenities are above the norm.. This is the vacation home of some finicky people who have lived in the tropics for years and have done everything to make themselves and you comfy.
Friends brought me to this part of Costa Rica in 2003 and I fell in love with the friendly community of Cocles. From the first night listening to the frogs, birds and monkeys, I was hooked and decided I had to find a way to return.
I purchased the Cocoa Hill property in 2006, and completed the first home the following year, I have built 4 others at Cocoa Hill and have maintained the Caribbean architectural style. I wanted a property that was close enough to the beach, the grocery store and restaurants to walk or ride my bike.
Cocoa Hill was a former cacao plantation, and there are still many cacao trees on the property along with many other massive grand-father hardwoods.
Casa Cacao is a beautiful place...We truly enjoyed the home's design, comfort and functionality. Your furnishings, linens and amenities in general were ideal following a 3 week road trip crisscrossing Costa Rica. The laundry duo are to die for...would have liked to bring them home with us. The TV/satellite/WiFi are spectacular...especially loved the music channels.
Our ten day stay in Cocles enhanced our love for the area's beaches, flora and fauna, restaurants and overall friendly atmosphere. Casa Cacao provided an oasis after each day of discovery. Even the weather was great with limited rainfall and great surf. We were astounded at the wide selection at the 'Super Cocles' market, a most convenient neighborhood asset.
The house is beautifully laid out. Kitchen was awesome. My daughter loved the hammock! We loved Punta Uva beach and the Jaguar Sanctuary.
Would have been perfect, but the house was really missing some of the basics - garbage bags, hand soap in the bathroom, laundry soap etc. We spent a lot of time trying to track down Leo with no luck, and didnt have a phone so couldnt call. Otherwise, a really wonderful stay.
My husband and I had a wonderful vacation in Costa Rica! This home and the gardens around it were spectacular .. better than we were expecting .. such a great layout and the large doors that open at the front of the house was a very nice feature. The house is in a very private location on the gated lot and is a short drive to Puerto Viejo and beaches along the Caribbean or a short walk to some nearby restaurants and a grocery store. The house was very clean when we arrived and very spacious for the two of us. The kitchen was well equipped with pots, pans, dishes, etc. - the washer and dryer was a nice touch as well. There is also a safe in the house to store passports and valuables. We loved the huge covered deck where we would sit and watch the toucans come home every night to the tree out front or enjoy a nice tropical rain. The large screened-in shower was a real treat as well – it was like showering out in the garden. Leo was a great host, greeting us with a smile when we arrived and checking in on us regularly to make sure everything was going well. We were very impressed with our home in the jungle and would recommend it to anyone planning to come out to Puerto Viejo.
We had an amazing vacation in Costa Rica. This home and the gardens around it are absolutely beautiful! It is in a great location..walking distance to Cocles beach and grocery store or a short bike or car ride to Puerto Viejo..and very private. The house had everything we needed to feel at home. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. and the washer and dryer came in very handy. There is a safe to keep your passports and valuables as well. We loved the huge covered deck where we would sit and enjoy watching the toucans return for the night or watch a nice tropical rain shower.. Another huge plus is the shower that is screened off on the outside wall of the bathroom.. kind of like having a shower the garden...a real treat. Leo was so friendly and helpful..he would check in with us regularly to make sure everything was going well. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone heading out to Puerto Viejo.
We stayed for six nights with our two (older, one surly) teenagers at Jungle Shangri-La who proclaimed this "the best vacation ever." The house is very roomy and immaculate. As one reviewer stated, the photos don't show how spacious it is. Thoughtfully designed house with vaulted ceilings and nice artistic touches like mosaic porch steps. Colorful gardens and creative landscaping. Well-equipped kitchen and all-around comfortable place. Far enough from Puerto Viejo for peace and quiet but close enough to enjoy its friendly, low-key chaos. Close to other beaches and restaurant areas, walking distance, really. We had a car but didn't really need it. Our daughter went to a yoga class daily at Caribbeans, one of the cocoa plantations nearby that gives tours. Great restaurants in the area. From the porch we saw lots of birds and mammals. Found a place for zip-lining 10 minutes away in a remnant lowland jungle where we saw about 20 monkeys. Shangri-La appeared to be one of the nicer rentals around. Conscientious, friendly caretaker and responsive owner. Highly recommend!
Wonderful property, well laid out and very comfortable - Leo as well was very warm and helpful...close to good market and restaurants - nice and quiet as well.
Thanks for great stay and service !
Jungle Shangri-la is all that it says it is! Well appointed and comfortable. Near amenties yet felt secluded. Though part of a five home gated community the landscaping provided privacy and we never encountered the neigbors. We were a party of four and found the house had enough indoor and outdoor space for us to gather as a group as well as areas to slip off. Loved being able to open all the doors onto the porch! Wi-fi and tv (used to watch the ball drop on New Year's Eve) Not mentioned or photographed is the large bathroom with a very generous shower that is screened in on one side that affords a garden view yet complete privacy. We had a car making beaches, restaurants and shopping just minutes away though lots of people seemed to use bikes to get around. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, pots, pans and utensils. We used mainly to make breakfast eating lunch and dinner out. Had outstanding meals at every restaurant we tried! Used TripAdvisor to guide us. Most restaurants are very small 6-10 tables so be sure to make reservations. As someone mentioned "Bread and Chocolate" is a must (breakfast and lunch only). Draws a crowd so be prepared for a short wait Tables tend to turn over quickly though. The Jaguar Rescue Center was an abosulte highlight and the private tour is well worth the money and supports the great work they do. Last words - go and enjoy!
We are a short walk or bike ride from a variety of awesome beaches, surf beaches, snorkeling, you name it. In the other direction are 40,000 acres of virgin rainforest, abundant with wildlife, toucans, monkeys, jungle cats. This is a great place to swim or hike and just enjoy the marvels of nature.
