I grew up in Ann Arbor, MI and had fond memories of vacationing in Traverse City as a child. As I grew older and life took me away from Michigan, those memories remained vivid and were gnawing at me to come back and visit. So when my wife and I planned leave from Japan to visit the states, Traverse City seemed like an excellent option. Our experience started out great from the start. Marita was willing to work with us on the dates of our stay (Friday - Friday) vs. the standard Sat-Sat vacation rental. This was absolutely wonderful concerning our stringent military leave dates from Japan. After living in big city after big city, we were amazed to find how centrally located Suite 202 of the Grand Traverse Commons. 45 minutes to Sleeping Bear Dunes, 2 hours to Mackinaw Island, and literally minutes from anything you desire to do in Traverse City.
The unit itself was absolutely wonderful. A small kitchen, supplied by the local meijer grocery store, kept us in for most meals and saved us tons of cash avoiding eating out. My wife was able to enjoy her morning coffee and I enjoyed the first glimmers of sunlight and my morning paper on the kindle. Wifi, cable internet, and a flat screen TV, kept us feeling like we were at home.
As you have read, it is a loft, with an incredibly efficient use of the square footage. Ultra high ceilings, allow for the bed to be lofted 10-12 feet in the air, in a makeshift room above the kitchen. A ladder brings you to your wonderfully comfortable bed. It really was a neat experience and just seemed to add to the uniqueness of the unit. Turns out my Grandmother worked at the clinic that is now the Grand Traverse Commons... maybe she walked those halls decades ago.
A comfy couch, breakfast table, wonderful bathroom and shower, and the location - central to great walks in the arboretum, trips to the bakery across the street, coffee shops, wine tasting, restaurants, and locality to gyms, shopping, and everything else made this a memorable trip. Thank you Marita. I highly recommend the unit.
