SECLUDED HIDEAWAY IN THE HEART OF OIA!
ENJOY 'BLUE & WHITE CAVE HOUSE' !
As you gaze at the deep blue waters of the Caldera you feel the calm breeze touch your heart and soul in a unique way. You certainly get a bird’s eye view watching the cruise boats as they sneak from the cape and follow the sun all the way from sunrise to sunset.
Unlike most cave houses in Santorini, once you enter the Blue & White House you are surprised by the soaring heights of the curved ceiling. Spacey, roomy, well-lit, the house maintains a constant temperature throughout the year (bioclimatic house), providing a refreshing, cool welcome after a long day under the demanding Greek sun. Inside, the white color prevails almost everywhere. It will make you feel refreshed, calm and pure. The unique architecture of the cave house meets with art objects and airy furniture to please the senses.
There is one master bedroom with a wrought-iron double bed. In the living area there are two ?raditional style built in twin beds for lounging or for extra guests. The master bedroom is separated from the living area by a doorway and 3 small windows. It also provides a dining table and an extra long sofa for relaxing. There is additionally a small adjacent room to the master bedroom with a fold away bed. There is an indoor tiled bathroom with a shower and a second outdoor bathroom. The fully equipped kitchen faces the beautiful Aegean sea.
Outside, the spacious private terrace provides the stage for unencumbered relaxation staring the amazing landscape of the caldera. Your eyes feast on the view producing numberless private mental postcards. You will enjoy your breakfast/dinner at the romantic private veranda with panoramic view of the cities of Imerovigli, Firostefani, Fira and “Athinios” port on the edge of the Caldera, the volcano and the islands of Palia and Nea Kammeni.
Every now and then, tourists with their cameras in hand, slowly, quietly and respectfully glide down the steps passing in front of the porch of the house as if visiting a church. While they seek vantage points for their picture framing, you can distinguish their admiration for the House when they smile and then turn to ponder the view.

The Blue & White House was built sometime in the late 1800s. It was a sailor's lowly house, just like most cave houses. Sometime in the 1970s it was bought by my maternal grandfather.
Antonis Dakoronias, born in Santorini in 1918, was a seaman himself. He spent 37 years at the sea, most of them as a captain, commanding commercial vessels around the world, before nestling again in Oia. He became president of Oia's local council and he founded the Maritime Museum of Oia (a must-see place). I became the owner of the Blue & White House after my mother inherited it in the 1990s.
I first set foot in Santorini in 1976 and have revisited most years since then. But since the mid-90s, this house has been my exclusive accommodation point in Santorini. Practically every summer I return to this house and pay homage to this most beautiful village in this most sensational island. In 2000 I performed a full restoration of the house to its current excellent state. I am proud of my ancestral links to Oia and a privileged owner of this classic, cliff-hanging cave house. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have been enjoying it for almost 20 years.
Wake up to the most amazing views of the beautiful Agean ocean. The cave house was clean and beautiful and most comfortable. Everything worked well and we had no issues. We spent 5 days here with our 3 children and loved every minute. The house is centrally and conveniently located with not many steps to get down. Maria was a wonderful host. Definitely would recommend.
location was perfect, view was breathtaking, decor was colorful and interesting. comfortable bed. quiet area of oia. this place is even more beautiful than the photos. i can't imagine a better experience.
Maria and her team make this spectacular location and beautiful apartment a special gem. She sent us a lot of information prior to our arrival, everything we needed to get to Oia as well as tourist information. They met us upon arrival to help with our luggage and help us find the cave house. Even though we were too early for check in, they showed us the place, gave us some water and took our luggage while we went out for lunch. They were kind and helpful at all times. Maria checked in with us several times and her personal hand delivered gift of her hand-made lace was a special personal touch.
You will be hard pressed to find a hotel in the city that is more reasonably priced for what you get with this house. Personal attention, spotlessly clean, beautiful location and delicious breakfast.
As described by multiple reviewers, the house itself is spacious, clean and wonderful. Perfect for our family of four with our two young children. We particularly enjoyed the terrace.
If you are going to Oia, stay in one of Maria's cave houses, you will be so ecstatic that you did!
What a delightful house. We were met at the post office by Konstantina and Stavros who made sure our bags were transported to the blue and white house hassle-free. Konstantina keeps the property spotless.
Maria the owner, along with Stavros and Konstantina make the best team in Santorini and they will really make sure you have absolutely nothing to worry about during your stay.
When people mention hordes of tourists in Oia they do mean hordes and it can be overwhelming to navigate the streets with so many people milling about. It also gets very hot during the day in Oia, not really humid but the direct sun does bake your skin, so it was a real treat to be able to hang out or nap in the very relaxing blue and white house until around 5 p.m. when the sun would be more merciful and the crowds start thinning out. Then you can walk up and down the cobblestone streets and really take your time enjoying the shops and excellent restaurants. With the blue and white house you are right in Oia but you have a sanctuary from all the commotion. When you are inside the house or on the patio enjoying the spectacular view you will really savor the peace and tranquility of the caldera. Occasionally the photographers do come by with a bride and groom for a photo shoot right in front of the house but that just adds to the experience and appreciation of the truly scenic spot that you happen to be in.
Since it was our first trip to Santorini I really wanted to experience "true Santorini living" so I decided to go stay in a cave house and not a hotel. I am so happy with that decision. The stay was unforgettable, and Oia was a good base to explore other towns like Megalochori, Imerovigli, Firostefani, Fira, and Akrotiri. Roads are dark at night and driving can be dangerous so it was good to already be in Oia at sundown.
We had the time of our lives and booking this house was key. Thank you Maria, Konstantina and Stavros!!
My stay at the Blue and White House exceeded my expectations. As I wandered the narrow path to my house I was able to get a close up look at the houses perched on the edge of the caldera. The old church bells in front of the house add to the atmosphere of this magical place. I felt they were there for my private viewing. Don’t worry they are only rung one time a year. The house was spacious, clean and artfully decorated with Maria’s, the owners, artwork. I loved the privacy of the master bed room with it’s adjoining bathroom. The full kitchen offered everything I needed to prepare a meal and it also had a view. What more could you want ! The large terrace was situated so I could relax in the sun with a glass of wine or have a meal while admiring the magnificent view. There is also a bathroom off the terrace which is convenient. The house is close to the center of Oia but is quiet. The breakfast, prepared by and delivered by Constantina, was filling. The omelet was delicious plus there were fresh fruits and bread. Maria, the owner, was gracious and very helpful. She sent everything I needed to get to the house in advance, by email, so I had no difficulties. Because of her contacts on the island, she also provided discounts for many restaurants and a car rental.
My husband and I were touring Santorini with my parents and booked the Blue
and White Cave House for our stay. I looked at nearly 50 apartments in Oia
before booking, as I wanted to make sure we would have an amazing view. We
were not disappointed! It was like a postcard! The little bell tower right
in front is such a special addition to the already outstanding Caldera
view! We were there on a shoulder season, but there was still a young
couple who came to take their picture on the bell tower (like the profile
picture for the cave house)...I get the feeling that is a common place for
photographers:) The house was very comfortable! We had everything we
needed! The location is perfect! You are walking distance to all of the
restaurants in Oia and 5 minutes from the Castle ruins where everyone goes
to watch the legendary sunset. The sunset was beautiful even from the
terrace of the house, whereas instead of watching the sun disappear into
the sea, you watch the colors of the white houses turn pink and gold! We
absolutely loved Oia and my husband and I even hiked from Oia to Fira one
day (the path is near to the house). After 1 hour in Fira, we couldn't wait
to get back to Oia and away from the throng of tourists! Constantina and
Stavros, the couple who delivered breakfast, replenished towels, and tidied
up for us, were such a welcoming and friendly couple! We ordered
Constantina's special breakfast one morning and it was delicious! And
Stavros ran up and down the walkways, insisting on helping us with our bags
and helping us with our car rental! Maria, the house manager, was a dream
to deal with also! We were blown away by how genuine and sweet she is!
Throughout our stay, she would check in with us to make sure everything was
ok and she was consistently making excellent recommendations on what to
do/see. We were there over Easter and she even invited us to celebrate
Easter with her to see the traditional Greek lamb roast! Unfortunately, we
were flying out that morning, so we had to pass, but Maria even sent us
pictures after! On our last night, she sat with us for over an hour,
sharing a glass of wine and watching the sunset on the terrace! She
mentioned how the apartment was decorated with her art, which we were very
impressed by. She met us at the airport on our last day with hand-made lace
doilies as parting gifts! Not only was Maria such a pleasant hostess, but
she was so organized and helpful in preparing for the trip!
The villa is 2 minutes walking distance from shops, restaurants, market, galleries, and 5 minutes from the bus and taxi terminal. It is located in the old city of Oia near the Castle which is the famous 'Sunset Point' of Greece! It is also 5 minutes walking distance from the Lounge Cafe Pool Bar called “Lyogerma” and 10 minutes' drive from the three beaches that are near Oia. There are many exotic places to go swimming, sandy or with volcanic rocks, all over the island!
Other Activities: You can take a boat trip around the volcano, explore an archaeological excavation of a 3000 year-old civilization, or perhaps visit some cultural museums. You can tour ancient Byzantine churches and charming wineries, or go trekking along the rim of the caldera and discover its traditional villages and stunning scenery. You can also ride on a donkey to the old port where you can go on an excursion to the volcano and swim in its hot springs. There is so much to do and this is the ideal place to enjoy doing it.
