Questionable Value

We are a family of four from Christchurch, NZ, and stayed 7 nights in Quebec City in late Dec / early Jan.
We stayed in a total of five vacation rental properties during our time in Ontario/Quebec, and had very positive and enjoyable experiences at four of them, and reviewed accordingly. Unfortunately, we felt that although this property had some interesting features, we were not satisfied with some basic requirements.
1] It was not clean. This is an absolute must, but it was obvious immediately that the kitchen in particular was simply not clean. The fridge had not been cleaned, there were still food remnants etc, utensils were not clean, and the benchtops had only been summarily cleaned. This was the only property we did not feel comfortable using the kitchen in, and hence we never cooked a meal here.
2] The dishwasher was not working – we were informed of this upon arrival, but there was no repair due, and it was suggested that perhaps our two children could help with washing dishes.
3] The set of overhead lights in the kitchen did not work, making it quite dark.
4] The layout is a little odd, with just one 3 seat couch to watch TV. The Projector upstairs has no TV connection, and the bulb is long overdue replacing. It would be a nice space to watch a movie, but the picture is dark.
5] There were other quite numerous minor issues, bulbs broken, the base plate in the microwave was missing – replaced with a broken and dirty plate (!), soap dispensers were empty etc.
Overall, this property was the most expensive we stayed in, and it easily rated the lowest. We were disappointed that a cleaning fee was levied (only one other property even levied a cleaning fee), when professional cleaning was clearly not done.
We would question the property on the basis of value for money. This was not a low-cost accommodation option, but we did not feel it was acceptable to offer broken dishwashers and sub-standard cleaning etc. We also did not feel the photos truly represented the property we stayed in.
I want to stress that we enjoyed Quebec City and our overall time there, but felt the value for money of this property was not valid.
