CUTE UPDATED CABIN. BORDERS NAT'L FOREST. WALKING DISTANCE TO RIVERS AND TRAILS

Harrisonburg Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom 1 bath Cabin Just across road from Gum Run (a native trout stream)

HOMEAWAY HAS CHANGED THEIR POLICIES: KIDS ARE NOW BEING CHARGED THROUGH THE BOOK IT NOW OPTION. WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR KIDS UNDER 18. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK THROUGH THE BOOK IT NOW, JUST PUT THE NUMBER OF ADULTS. ADD A NOTE OF HOW MANY KIDS THERE ARE AND WE WILL CHANGE IT IN THE RESERVATION. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO BOOK IT YOURSELF AND NOT HAVE THE EXTRA FEES.

Gum Run Cabin (Please see all the details below)

We just finished remodeling Gum Run Cabin the end of June 2013. We updated the entire kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances and new counter tops and new cabinets as well. This is a real cabin that was originally built as a Summer getaway that has been updated. Because of this the cabin has a lot of charm and touches that new construction does not have. If you are looking for a brand new cabin built for use just as a vacation rental, then this cabin may not be for you... this cabin has real character and offers a glimpse into the past. :) We think its history is part of what makes it special.

The bathroom has also been completely redone. There is now a double shower / tub combo. The cabin has a rough cut pine exterior and a western red cedar interior. There is also a nice screen wrap around porch out front. The cabin is a two bedroom cabin (both queen size beds) with a loft. The loft has very low ceilings (best for kids or teenagers). It has four single mattresses on the floor in it. As of right now, we built a custom cedar ladder for access to the loft. Kids under 5 should probably not climb the ladder into the loft.

Pets are always welcome but we do require a pet fee. There is a chicken coop at this property that we will need to tend to during the day.

On clear nights, you can see thousands of stars overhead. It is a beautiful sight. Also during the spring and summer months, you can see humming birds everywhere. We place feeders off the front porch of the house and have personally seen upwards of 20 birds feeding on them at one time in the area.

Checking is 4:00 pm and checkout is 11 am.

Pets are welcome at all of our properties. If you or someone in your group is allergic to pets or anything else (detergent, air fresheners, etc), please let us know in advance so we can discuss this prior to your booking and then also prior to your arrival.

This cabin has a window unit a/c in the living room. We have not had anyone complain about it being too hot and the window unit has met with everyone's approval thus far. Please be aware of this prior to booking the cabin. We want all of our guests to be more than satisfied.

The cabin is on a well... sometimes the well, depending on the water table will put out iron water that can appear orange at times. This is not harmfull in any way, it just looks strange in the bathtub. We do have an expensive water treatment system set up to treat the water, but the water is sometimes too strong. There is also on occassional sulphur smell in the water as well. This too is not harmful, but it can strong depending on the water table. The drinking water is filtered even more thoroughly than the tap water too.

We moved from Texas for me (Steven) to complete my college degree and wound up starting a vacation rental business almost by accident. As of June 2013, we have 6 cabins ready to rent. We have two young daughters. We have 8 dogs and 2 cats.

Katie & Steven Robert Jones purchased this cabin in 2012

This cabin is in a great location. Whippoorwills are very common in the Spring to early Summer months as are Hummingbirds. The sound of Gum Run rushing by about 100 yards across the front yard is very peaceful.

There are 3 hiking trails within walking distance of the cabin (two of which can only be accessed from from our private land). There are numerous other trails within a very short drive of the cabin.

Cozy cabin – Perfect getaway

If you want a relaxing getaway to the mountains, this is the place to be. We could not have asked for more. It is peaceful and extremely quiet. The only sound you’ll hear is the sound of the nearby river. Upon entering the cabin we were surprised by the smell of fresh wood. It’s clean and cozy with a modern touch. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook all our meals there. The owners, Steven and Katie, have a chicken coop behind the house and were able to provide a few fresh eggs. A short walk away is a small petting zoo with ponies, goats, and chickens which our daughter (1 yr old) loved.

Be aware your cell phone service provider may not cover the area. We did not have service during our visit but were able to connect to the cabin’s wifi and there was a landline phone. We were worried about not having service and later realized not being connected to the rest of the world during vacation was a blessing.

From the moment we booked the cabin to the moment we left it was perfect. Katie and Steven were so helpful; from sending driving directions, providing names and directions to local restaurants, to being available if something arises during your stay. We loved it so much; we will be renting the cabin every year.

Hibernation Heaven

Every January we find a new cabin to spend a long weekend hibernating. Our criteria for a fabulous location were all met with the Gum Run Cabin. The kitchen offered lots of counter space, cabinet storage, and modern appliances. The renovated bathroom with the HUGE bathtub was luxurious. The bedrooms had soft, comfy beds with plenty of blankets and great pillows.

We spent most of our time in the open living space which provided ample seating for the two of us and our two pugs. The high top table offered a perfect place to eat meals and access the wireless internet connection. The flat screen TV was the perfect size and delivered excellent satellite reception when we weren't using the blue ray player.

Although the weather was a little rainy, we were able to get out and enjoy the property. The pugs loved watching the chickens and exploring the scents in the yard. We left them behind, though, when we walked to visit the horses, goats, and other animals down the road. It was so relaxing to walk down the road to the hiking paths and never encounter another car or person.

If you're looking to get away from the busy pace, but still want to have access to modern comforts, this cabin is for you!

Great cabin located in beautiful area

You won't be disappointed if you select this cabin for a get away stay. Everything you need is contained including a modern kitchen and well equipped bathroom with very nice shower. The cabin is isolated but easy to reach by vehicle. I loved the size of the ice cubes from the on door access. The bed I used was very comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. It also provided wifi with excellent reception. It is all you could ask for in a get away spot. The owners were available for any special needs. Would definitely stay again.

Modern conveniences in a very cozy cabin

From the moment we arrived we found the cabin just as we had hoped. It was even better than the photos on the website. Steven and Katie met us upon arrival and they had the lights on and everything was perfect right as we walked through the door.

The beds were very comfortable. I have trouble sleeping and I didn't even wake up once during the night. The direct sunlight doesn't rise over the mountain until after 9 am in December. It was nice to sleep in, but once the sun came up it was simply beautiful. Watched icicles dripping off the front porch.

The kitchen had everything we needed to cook. Enjoyed watching the chickens in the chicken coop from the kitchen window. Enjoyed some short walks on the beautiful trails and roads in Rawley Springs. The owners have farm animals right down the road and we enjoyed feeding them carrots. We enjoyed the free fresh eggs from their chickens.

The snow covered ground was really pretty. Since we're almost 80 we couldn't venture out and walk/hike too far in the snow, but the cabin setting is very peaceful.

If you are looking for a cozy cabin, then you will love it here. We sure did.

Great Cabin In The Mountains

The cabin was easy to find. It has a nice big front yard with a fire pit and swing. It has a very warm and welcoming feel and the large screen porch is great place to relax. The inside has nice cedar look with modern stainless steel appliances. It even has a big flat screen tv in the living room, but don't spend too much time inside because the area is really beautiful. Would love to come back and stay again!
