If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway on the Finger Lakes, you’ll find it at Buttercup Cottage. This unique property features the elbow room of a park-like setting and offers outstanding privacy, gorgeous views and the charm of a country cottage.
The property includes two houses that can sleep 8 guests. The main house features two bedrooms (one with a Queen bed, one with a bunk that sleeps 3), kitchen with eat-in area, a living room with cable TV, and a screen porch with panoramic views of the lake.
The guest house is ideal for visitors, in-laws or older kids. It includes a queen bed and a twin, a bathroom with shower stall, and large screen porch with a picnic table facing the lake. The west side of the guest house features an outdoor shower that’s ideal for rinsing off in the sun after a dip in the lake.
The yard is unusually large for a lake property, occupying .8 acre of grass for you to play Whiffle ball or touch football, or just lounge in the sun.
To the south of the main house, overlooking the lake, is a gazebo with a picnic table that’s perfect for dinners as the sun sets.
The waterfront, accessible by stairs, features an L-shaped dock and a boat house with canoe.
Buttercup Cottage is located on the west side of Honeoye Lake, about a mile south of the town of Honeoye. This quiet location, surrounded by friendly, quiet, summer-long neighbors, is an ideal setting for a relaxing vacation.
Things to do include some of the best walleye and bass fishing in NY State, visiting local wineries, or enjoying the breathtaking view from Harriet Hollister State Park, at the south end of the lake.
For boaters, Honeoye Lake has a state boat launch and the clean, quiet lake is idea for all kinds of water sports.
Please note: During the peak season from mid-June through early September, Buttercup Cottage has a 7-night minimum. During peak season, check in is on Saturdays at 3 p.m., and check out is on Saturdays at 11 a.m.
Having a lake cottage was a dream of ours when we moved from New York City to Rochester 25 years ago. When we took a flyer and looked at Buttercup Cottage, we knew it was perfect for us: big enough to have guests, close to Rochester, great neighbors and with plenty of elbow room to romp and play. Our kids grew up spending two weeks at the lake every summer, and it's created great memories for us.
Kurt Jaeckel purchased this cottage in 2003
Buttercup Cottage feels like a refuge from the busy world, but it's only a half hour from Rochester. When you turn down the driveway and see the huge lawn, the outdoor sun-shower, the gazebo overlooking the lake and the bright yellow buildings, you know it's a special place. The lake is small enough to not attract crowds of boaters, but large enough to enjoy tubing, fishing, sailing and just sightseeing. It's an ideal haven, the perfect mix of convenience and charm.
We love watching the sun rise over the Bristol Hills from the porch, coming up from the water to rinse off in the sun in the outdoor shower, playing Whiffle ball on the lawn and having dinner on the gazebo, watching the lake get peaceful at sunset.
The photo's don't do it justice. The view of and access to the lake are lovely. My family was surprised at the space and all of the conveniences, from the new life jackets to the wifi service. The fishing was great (we went through 6 dozen nightcrawlers!), and shops were close by for last minute shopping, We should have stayed two weeks!
Buttercup Cottage is on Honeoye Lake in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. The lake itself is about 5 miles long by a mile wide and features some of the best fishing in NY State, especially for bass and walleye. Sheltered by picturesque hills, the lake is peaceful and ideal for sailing and water skiing or tubing. At the south end of the park is the Harriet Hollister State Park, which features spectacular hiking trails overlooking the lake. At the north end of the lake is Sandy Bottom Beach, an ideal place to go for a swim or a barbecue.
The Finger Lakes region around Honeoye includes many wineries, most of which have beautiful lake views. The historic town of Canandaigua is about 10 miles to the east and features many restaurants, Roseland water park and CMAC, a popular summer concert venue.
