The villa is laid out around a central fireplace and open staircase; tufted leather club chairs pulled up to the hearth offer a place to pause in the middle of the house. The living and dining rooms have traditional beamed ceilings, plush carpets laid over tile floors and rich red upholstery on dining chairs, antique loveseats and modern sofas. Though chef service is available, the kitchen is fully equipped.
Each of Villa Barbi’s five bedrooms has the comforts of a hotel suite, like an en-suite bathroom and TV. On the ground floor, there’s one bedroom with a twin bed. On the second floor, there are two bedrooms with king beds and two bedrooms with two twin beds each. The upstairs bedrooms all have living areas with armchairs and desks as well.
From the property, you’ll find much of Umbria easily accessible. It’s a 15-minute drive to Orvieto, a 30-minute drive to Todi, a 45-minute drive to Perugia and a 50-minute drive to Assisi. If you’d like to travel outside the region, it’s an hour to Montepulciano and Pienza, 90 minutes to Rome, Siena and Montalcino, and 105 minutes to downtown Florence.

Since 1973, the Barbi family has demonstrated their true passion and love for wine making. Their pride in maintaining the old values of wine production reflects every aspect of the process by utilizing manual labour, distinguishing their wine from competitors.
The villa's qualified English-speaking guide will tour you among breathtaking sceneries, beginning with the history of the Decugnano land and the Barbi family. Guests will learn about the origin of the soil (terroir), viticulture and vine training techniques, grape harvesting, methods of vinification, fermentation, wine storing, bottling and wine keeping in the cellar, together with the history of Orvieto and its surroundings.
After a visit to the modern part of the winery and a walk through the vineyards, guests will visit the Etruscan grottos where the red wine is kept in French oak barrels and the spumante wine is made through the Methode Champenoise.
Within the Medieval Chapel of Saint Mary of Decugnano, overlooking the valley with Orvieto in the distance, guests will experience the best three wines produced: the sparkling “Spumante”wine, the “ Il Decugnano” white (reserve) and “Il Decugnano” red (reserve), paired with local delicacies. A general understanding of how wine should be assessed will be given through visual, olfactory and taste analysis.
Tours are personalized and tailored to suit the guests, creating an unforgettable wine tasting experience. The experience will ensure that the wine you drink in the future will never taste the same!
