4 BATHROOMS FOR 3 BEDROOMS

Capitol Hill House Rental Photos and Description

As Close as You Can Get to U.S. Capital

The Flat at Library Court is a row house in the historic district with a completely renovated interior and all new furnishings decorated with Washington D.C. flair. You’ll enjoy expansive views of the stately Library of Congress, which is directly across the street. The house backs to Library Court, a 300 year old historic cobblestone street built in the days of horse-drawn buggies.

Why you can’t beat our location: Capitol Hill is a historic residential neighborhood that stretches from the U.S. Capitol, and Pennsylvania Ave, the main corridor, emanates from the Capitol beginning at 2nd Street. We are one block away on 3rd St – the first residential block from the Capitol. The further you get (4th Street, 5th, 6th and so on), the less desirable and less safe the areas become, and the longer your walk to the sites. This is truly as good and as close as it gets! Don’t talk yourself into staying blocks away…

• 1 Block or Less: U.S. Supreme Court, Library of Congress (across the street), Folger (Shakespeare) Theatre

• Within 2 to 3 blocks: U.S. Capitol, U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, Cannon House Office Building, Capitol Mall, U.S. Botanical Garden, South Capital Metro station.

• Tour Bus: The Circulator Tour Bus picks up one block away but most of what you’ll want to see is within a short walk.

• Dining 1 Block or Less: We the Pizza; Good Stuff Eatery (President Obama’s favorite hamburger), Cosi (sandwiches, soups and salads), Starbucks, Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar, Hunan Dynasty, Hawk N Dove; Capitol Hill Liquor and Deli

• Stores 1-2 Blocks: Corner Market Grocery Store, Grubb’s Care Pharmacy, Gandel’s Liquor, Riverby Books.

The Penthouse Apartment

Up a flight of stairs, you will enter the Penthouse Apartment of the Flat at Library Court. This two story unit has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and expansive views of the stately Library of Congress. The kitchen is fully stocked and the unit has wi-fi, cable TV and central air conditioning/heat.

DESCRIPTION OF NEIGHBORHOOD:

Capitol Hill is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential communities in Washington D.C.

As a geographic feature, Capitol Hill rises near the center of the District of Columbia and extends eastward. The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast, and a large portion is now designated as the Capitol Hill historic district. The name Capitol Hill is often used to refer to both the historic district and to the larger neighborhood around it.

Capitol Hill's landmarks include not only the United States Capitol, but also the Senate and House office buildings, the Supreme Court building, the Library of Congress, the Marine Barracks, the Washington Navy Yard, and Congressional Cemetery.

The main non-residential corridor of Capitol Hill is Pennsylvania Avenue, a lively commercial street with shops, restaurants and bars. Eastern Market is an 1873 public market on 7th Street SE, where vendors sell fresh meat and produce in indoor stalls and at outdoor farmers' stands. It is also the site of an outdoor flea market every weekend

ROBIN

  • 5 of 5
We stayed four nights here, and none of us wanted to leave! The property is spotlessly clean; bathrooms are compact, but efficient; the property is totally renovated, yet retains the charm of an 1800s townhome. The location is perfect. Despite being in the "middle" of everything, the home was so quiet and peaceful. We easily walked to the Metro, museums, Union station. Shops and restaurants are close by when you don't want to go too far after a day of sightseeing. (We enjoyed the French restaurant "Bernaise." )Loved the locks with the code, so we didn't have to juggle keys if the group went separate ways.

I will definitely return to this property and recommend it to my friends.

We had only two nit-picky comments: we are wine drinkers, and there were only three wine glasses in the unit! Also, could have used some hooks in the bathrooms upstairs to hang robes, towels, etc., and also to hang clothes in the bunk bedroom, as there is no closet.

Thank you, Bob!

Owner's Response: I would like to thank you Robin for your kind review. We will definitely put in more wine glasses. Apparently some of the wine glasses got broken and were not replaced. Your other suggestions certainly warrant our attention.

VERY COZY AND CLOSE TO EVERYTHING!

  • 5 of 5
We spent about 10 days in DC and found this location to be well-suited to getting out to the various places we had on our sight-seeing list! When we wanted to take a walk for our morning coffee, we count Starbucks a short 2 blocks away. This property was very clean and nicely set up with amenities. We flew into Washington National (DCA) and took a taxi on our arrival (12:30 AM!), but found the Metro (10-15 minute walk) cheaper and not much of a hassle on our return trip. We did eat at 'home' a few times, but did find some great dining close by. One of our favorites was Good Stuff Eatery on Pennsylvania Ave. We would very much recommend this rental to anyone wanting easy tourist access to our nation's capitol!

GREAT LOCATION FOR A FAMILY SIGHTSEEING TRIP

  • 5 of 5
The Flat at Library Court gave our family a wonderful base for a sightseeing trip. It was just as described: a very well-equipped property in a great location. We were just east of the US Capitol, close to shops and restaurants. We parked the car at Union Station for the week and walked or rode the Metro everywhere we went. I honestly don't know how we could have improved on the situation. It was great. We would definitely like to come back.

Our two favorite restaurants in the neighborhood: Le Pain Quotidien and District Taco, both near the corner of Pennsylvania Ave. SE and 7th St. E.

GREAT SPACE AND LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it. The home was spacious with full bathrooms in each of the three bedrooms (two of which were large master bedrooms and the remaining one was smaller with a bunk bed, yet comfortable), recently renovated with modern appliances and finishes, well-maintained and conveniently located. The Property Manager was also extremely responsiveness, attentive and accommodating making the stay even more enjoyable. As noted in the description, Flat 2 is on the upper two levels of the brownstone so you have to walk up a flight a stairs to arrive on the main level of the apartment. If walking up stairs is difficult for you or others, you should look into booking Flat 1 - the courtyard unit.

BEAUTIFUL, SPACIOUS BROWNSTONE NEAR THE CAPITOL

  • 5 of 5
This is a beautiful brownstone fresh from a floor to ceiling renovation. Everything was new, high quality, and immaculate. We had the top 2 floors and it was very spacious. The open kitchen, dining room, and living room were inviting and a great place to hang out. (Could use one more sofa or a couple of overstuffed chairs.)

The location is ideal for a DC visit, just steps away from the Capitol, Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court. We easily did the trip without a car. There is DC Bike Share within a block, while the Metro is 3 to 4 blocks away. Restaurants, a small grocery store, and a liquor store are very near; a Safeway was a little more of a hike.

One other note - the house is accessed with a key pad, which is a very convenient feature when you have different people going out at different times (or young adults staying out a little later than parents.)

We loved this place and strongly recommend it.

OUTSTANDING HOME!

  • 5 of 5
We have rented homes many times and most of the time the web description is accurate. In this case it was 110% accurate. The home was better than the pictures and a great location. We dropped the car at Union Station and picked it up when we left. The location is ideal for the monuments, museums and nightlife. We enjoyed dinner at Tortilla Coast by the Capitol South station. There is a great burger joint around the corner on Pennsylvania Avenue (Good Stuff). Further down in the same store row is a small grocer who sells everything, beer, wine, munchies, etc. He keeps extended hours, too.

Bob checked in with us after we arrived and all was perfect. I hope future guests keep it as neat and clean as we did. I would highly recommend this property.

Even got to see the Eagles win a playoff game Sunday night on the big screen TV in the family room. Our family of 5 fit nicely, really great trip, thanks in part to this excellent home.
