About The Owner

Our names are Dusan and Magda Janak, and we came to this country from the Czech Republic and Poland 22 years ago. We very much enjoy living here and we especially love the natural beauty this country has to offer. We live in Keene, New York. My husband and I take pleasure in all outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking and golfing in the summer and downhill and cross-country skiing in the winter. At vacation time we like to take backpacking trips and cross-country excursions on our motorcycle.

The Owner purchased this house in 2011

Why The Owner chose Lake Placid

We love Lake Placid, and think it is a wonderful place for everyone; from people seeking the peaceful serenity of the Mountains to those looking for outdoor adventures. We used to come here every year to enjoy the views and beautiful hikes and lakes. We love the High Peaks Region with its gorgeous views and hiking challenges; in fact, we love Lake Placid so much that we decided to purchase this house so that we can come here and enjoy it more often.

What makes this house unique

This house has a very comfortable layout for a large party of people. It has two living rooms, a porch coming right out from the dining room and nice little fenced in yard where you can allow little children to play safely. An outdoor fireplace allows you to enjoy the outdoors during cooler nights or winter months; and maybe even roast some marshmallows. And…location, location, location! The house is so close to all of the Lake Placid attractions including the Olympic Arena and the public beach on Mirror Lake, not to mention restaurants, bars and stores; all of this within walking distance from the house

it was a great house and a great stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house on a recent ski trip with a group of friends. The house was much bigger than we expected and even nicer than it looked in the pictures. The rooms were big and the decor was perfect. Some of us had small children, so it was nice to have the two big bedrooms in the upper level and the huge master on the middle floor. There were even toys to keep them occupied. Nice hot tub and foosball table were also pluses. It was close to the shops, restaurants, and the shuttle to the ski slopes. The kitchen was well equipped. The only downside was there were two living rooms, so not quite as good as just one for a group that wanted to hang out together. I also didn't like that the dishwasher had to be done and emptied before we left. I have never had that requirement before and seems like putting them in and hitting start should have been enough, especially if we had wanted to hit the slopes early and leave. Had we not had young kids and had some people staying in the house during the day I imagine I wouldn't have been happy to wait for the cycle. However, the checkout was midnight which was a huge plus. The owner was easy to deal with and returned our deposit promptly.

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

We planned a weekend away for my in-laws and wanted it to be perfect. It was. The house was spotless and everyone enjoyed a fantastic weekend. It's hard to beat the convenience of renting a house just a block from Main Street. Overall, a great experience!

weekend get together

  • 5 of 5

Our ( 4 retired siblings and spouses) spent a get away weekend in Lake Placid. The house was just right for us. It was clean, well furnished (the kitchen has everything), nicely decorated and BIG. The location is perfect. We were able to walk downtown and to both lakes (Placid and Mirror). The owners were great to work with being both pleasant and eager to help. We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay and with Lake Placid Village.

Memorial Day with the family

  • 5 of 5

3 generations for a great 3 day weekend. The weather was not great for a good portion of the trip and it hardly mattered because we were so comfortable in the house. Plenty of common space and plenty of space to escape to when you'd prefer to be alone.

The kids were entertained and loved that they had their own space to play, great fenced in yard, and the park next door was great. The proximity to the village is excellent!

Great space for a family reunion!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the week of Christmas celebrating with a family of 5 siblings and their children. We were a full house, but due to the layout of the house, we never felt crowded. There are 3 floors to offer quite when the younger crowd stayed up to play cards. There are two living rooms so everyone can grab a cozy seat and relax. When there was an issue with the hot tub, the owners responded right away! We had a great time ice skating and could walk right into town. It was right next to a park with a playground to! Great house, couldn't have asked for more! Nicely decorated as well.
