'QUIETUDE' CHARMING SHENANDOAH VALLEY COTTAGE, ARTIST STUDIO & WATER GARDENS.

Shenandoah House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4 adults) Central Heat & Air Conditioning

Quietude Cottage offers privacy without being isolated. You will love returning to the cottage after your day of exploring the Shenandoah Valley. Located at 386 Cider Mill Road, Mount Sidney, VA, Quietude is a 1920s seven room cottage style house, with original wood floors throughout. Partially open walls in the living areas create an inviting space. The cottage is located on 1 1/2 acres and there are 4 soothing water features. Take time to swing on the front porch or beside one of the goldfish ponds. (Keep watchful eye over young children around ponds. The ponds are up to two feet deep and the pond liners are extremely slippery.) Relax while watching the fish play or the birds at the feeders, you may even see a bullfrog. Or walk up the hill to the swing in the back yard and enjoy views of the neighboring fields & woods. Enjoy a meal or nap on the comfy sofa on the spacious patio and listen to the music of the waterfall. Flavor up your meal with a few leaves from the herb garden by the patio.

This is a no smoking property.

Pet policy. Sorry, no cats, strong allergy! Dogs considered, contact owner, pet fee for dogs is $10/night/pet.

New furnace, Oct. 2013, fuels the central heat. New central air conditioning will be added in time for warm weather, summer 2014!

The two bedrooms and the bath are upstairs. Linens provided. The master bedroom has a Queen bed, raised ceiling, ceiling fan and TV. The second bedroom has a double bed and TV. There is a shared full bath with tub/shower off the common hallway.

A twin size air mattress is also available (built-in electric plug in for inflating.)

Bring your favorite DVDs or watch a movie from my collection on the 40' Flat Screen TV in the living room.

Washer and dryer are available for your use in the basement/cellar.

You are welcome to use one of my handmade quilts if the nights are cool. My original oil and watercolor paintings decorate the house.

The house and location is perfect for Cyclists, JMU/Bridgewater/EMU/MBC parents, Hikers, or Sightseers. The area is a favorite for road cyclists with an amazing number of paved backroads. A county road map is available at the house.

Quietude Cottage was beautifully appointed: comfortable beds, wonderful handmade quilts, great art and baskets all around, nice country kitchen! We loved driving around and discovering the area and coming back to the house after a long day was very welcome and comforting. Thank you!

I am an artist with many interests. I like to travel and paint. But I also enjoy home projects and gardening. I am retired and can choose what I want to do each day.

I have grandchildren in Virginia and California, so I like to spend time on each coast. Hiking and kayaking are favorite activities. When you stay in my Quietude Cottage, you will see evidence of my varied endeavors and interests.

Elizabeth Tuttle purchased this house in 2006

North Carolina natives, our family visited the Shenandoah Valley often when my children were young. My daughter lives about a mile from this house, so it is a natural, easy place for me to stay when I'm in Virginia. I love the beauty of the Valley and there are so many ways to enjoy your time here. Lots of wineries have developed over the past few years and they are fun to visit. Easy access to the Blue Ridge mountains, National Forests, Harrisonburg, Staunton and Charlottesville is a bonus.

Tranquility. I find it beside water. I like having the water features near the living room window so in warm weather, with the windows open, I hear the water falling into the pond and in winter I enjoy viewing the water or ice. Visiting birds like the water too! Bird feeders help assure lots of birds in spring & summer and some year round.

The area is quiet and that contributes to the peaceful atmosphere. Again, the house and outside areas offer privacy without isolation. I think the house and yard are beautiful and have enjoyed projects that sustain and improve on that beauty. Have lots more projects on my list!

Downtown Staunton is a favorite place to visit. I particularly like the art galleries and restaurants.

EVEN BETTER THAN I EXPECTED

  • 5 of 5
I am thankful to the owner for offering this lovely place to travelers. It was perfect for my needs, offering peace, a wonderful yard that creates a superb connection between landscape and wildlife (birds, frogs, and the like), and a house that is a perfect cross between homey tradition and modern amenities. It is close enough to grocery stores and local towns that you can easily run errands and do sight-seeing, but also feel that you are getting away from it all. I wish I could have stayed longer to truly take advantage of the yard, the dining room, and the well-stocked library of games and movie DVDs!
My thanks to the owner for going out of her way to make sure that I had a comfortable stay.

BEAUTIFUL QUAINT LITTLE COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
The location, amidst virginia's countryside, was perfect. The house itself had everything you need on a holiday. It was clean, beautiful, had a large garden and a great sit out place. The kitchen was well equipped. The owner, Ms. Elizabeth was very warm, polite and courteous. She even left my wife some home made cookies for her birthday. I would definitely come back here again.

PERFECT GETAWAY

If you want a charming setting in a beautiful location then this is the place. All of the amenities of home are provided and close enough to local attractions for convenience but far away enough for solitude. We look forward to going back again.

LOVELY PLACE TO RELAX AND VISIT THE SHAKESPEARE THEATRE

  • 5 of 5
I wanted to unwind, do some brisk fitness walking, and see several plays at Staunton's Shakespeare Theatre during a week's respite from the grind. That's what I did, and it was great. Unfortunately I had some work I needed to do as well, and so I wasn't quite able to get into a Zen state, but it was still nice. I appreciated very much Elizabeth letting me use her MiFi. A note: The house is in the country, and so there are some insects. This was not a problem for me because my home is in a very wooded area and so I co-exist fairly well with natural elements. But if you're a strict city mouse you may have a little adjustment to do.

Owner's Response: City folks are welcome at Quietude Cottage, a house in the country. I'm glad guests find the place relaxing and a good place to stay while they enjoy the local pleasures.

This past year Virginia has been plagued with stink bugs. They find their way into every house no matter how often you get rid of them. A new phenomenon for me in the area, hope it does not last! Just glad they are harmless!

NOT FAR FROM JMU

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Quietude while visiting our son who is a student at James Madison University. It was about a 20 minute ride to the college. The farm house is very authentic and fully equipped and very clean. The beds were comfortable and the towels were soft and fluffy. We enjoyed the movies that were provided. We did have cell service behind the house, so we were able to communicate with our son at the college. While we did not spend much time at the house, it was a comfortable place to come back to. We would recommend a stay.

Relax by the water gardens and enjoy the goldfish, birds and sound of waterfalls. Inviting front porch with swing & rocking chairs. Great patio sofa to read or snooze! Three swings... on the front porch, by a water garden and at upper back yard. Washer and dryer in basement/cellar. Bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs. Central heat (new furnace Oct. 2013) and central air conditioning (new spring 2014). I love to bake and cook in the kitchen, especially with all new appliances and most recently, new solid maple countertops, crafted and installed by my son-in-law.
