This spectacular 207 acre private island estate offers incredible views, sunsets and sunrises, privacy and luxurious living in a green and eco sensitive manner. The main house is beautifully and comfortably furnished with hardwood floors throughout. The first floor open design features a large living room with two sets of French doors opening onto wrap-around porch/deck, wood stove and 2 story ceilings. Well-equipped kitchen overlooks the livingroom providing a relaxed entertaining and living atmosphere. Small dining nook off kitchen seats 5-6. Dining room has large table that seats 12 with French doors opening onto a screened in eating area seating 6-8. A den/4th bedroom, large slate-floored mudroom and bath/laundry room complete the first floor. Upstairs is a magnificent master bedroom with two small decks facing south and east, queen bed, walk-in closet and full bath. Two other bedrooms (one with deck) and a shared bath with shower are on the second floor. A spiral staircase leads to the third floor enclosed widow's walk and gorgeous sunset and 360 degree views of island and lake. This property is 'off the grid' with an extensive photovoltaic solar system that supplies power to the main house. A back-up generator helps during the cloudy days, but some accommodation for nature's proclivities is required. An island caretaker and working farmer in residence at the south end, is available to assist guests with navigating the solar system as well as providing trips ashore as needed. The system requires some user interaction. Panoramic views of water, mountains and pastoral fields are enjoyed from every room of the house. Extensive sandy beaches are just a 5 minute walk. Walking and running paths circle the island.

Why Helen Riehle chose Burlington

My father-in-law bought the island in 1955 as a weekend retreat from the NYC area. He ended up relocating to Vermont and the island became his passion, building first a small log cabin, then an airstrip, and eventually creating a small sheep farm with several barns and fenced pastures. Following retirement the island became a summer and holiday gathering place and the main home was built in 1990s. Weddings, reunions and variious fund-raising events have enjoyed the incredible spot. The three sons now oversee the island and are pleased to share this special place with others.

What makes this estate unique

The island is a wonderful place to get away from the stresses and noise of the real world. We help with haying and gardening if we want physical activity or simply sit and enjoy the sunsets, beaches and lake activities.

Amazing Retreat

This is an absolutely amazing and magical place. I spent most of a week here for part of my honeymoon. The house is like something out of a story book - beautifully decorated, incredibly inviting with plenty of great books and games to relax with, and endless windows with gorgeous views in every direction. We loved walking around the grounds, taking in the stunning views and enjoying the beach. I could not be happier with my experience here and I try to return every year if I can. You must try the locally made "Island Ice Cream" on your way to the island - amazing!

I would highly recommend this destination - it exceeded all of my expectations.

Tranquil Haven

When I arrived to this beautiful private island I was stunned by the nature that surrounds it. The island itself sits in the middle of Lake Champlain and is large enough that every day an excursion around the island was a new adventure. From the secluded sandy beaches which lead to the amazing waters of the lake to the open grass fields where one can lay down and stargaze, this place is meant to relax and inspire. I could have spent more days than I had here.
The house itself is like stepping into a classic novel with it's New England charm and yet it's cloistered surroundings allows you the feeling of your own paradise. It was the house's panoramic views of all sides of the island that sold me in wanting to visit again and again.

A very unique experience, highly recommended.

It’s hard to imagine a more unique, private and reasonably priced vacation rental than this. The house is built in a Caribbean-like style to maximize views and catch the breeze with many high-end details and modern conveniences. However the house is really only a small part of the allure here as you are renting a 200+ acre private island! Beach and exploratory walk options abound along with epic sunrise and sunset views right from the house.

We have extensive travel experience in Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Maine and can say without reservation that this vacation rental is the most unique experience we’ve had. It may not be for everyone as there are logistics to work out (getting to and from, working the power system, determining just how many limes to bring, etc.) but the owners and onsite caretaker were very proactive in dealing with them and available should anything happen. Said logistics became part of the fun during our stay and certainly will not deter us from visiting again!
