Chatham House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-9)

Everything in this Chatham retreat feels fresh and new, completely rebuilt in 2008. You'll find hotel-quality accommodations for 3 couples or a family, with all the comforts of home.

When you arrive you will find that our architect maximized light, air, and views, with great flow from the upstairs vaulted bedroom ceilings to the open plan downstairs. The spacious front and back decks overlook gorgeous landscaping and neighboring woods. From daffodils to hibiscus, we designed our organic gardens for lots of color throughout the spring, summer, and fall seasons, attracting abundant wildlife.

We are in a great location, walk along protected wetlands to lovely Forest Beach, where you can find your own stretch of sand away from the crowds. It's also a short walk to a great cafe and wonderful upscale restaurant.

Inside, each of the three bedrooms has its own bathroom, TV, DVD, and radio/Ipod port. The master suite has a tempurpedic queen bed and full bath. The other two bedrooms can be made up as twin sets or king, and contain all new pillowtop mattresses with hotel quality linens. There is a brand new ping pong table in our basement rec-room/art studio, and even beach towels are provided.

Our home is also handicap accessible, complying as much as was possible to ADA requirements on the entire first floor. Both front and back decks are wheelchair accessible. The downstairs bedroom flows into a shower bathroom with grab bars and also grab bars around the toilet. The upstairs back bathroom with shower also has grab bars. The upstairs bedrooms have a lofty feel with lots of windows and light, and we installed two separately zoned central air and heating systems (one upstairs and one downstairs) for your year round comfort.

Our living room, with two six foot sofas, two comfy club chairs, and extensive library for all ages, makes a great room to entertain and enjoy a book, game, or movie with a nice fire. This space flows into a brand new cook's kitchen, fully equipped with whatever you may need for any kind of feast. We have ample dishware and cookware for you and all your guests - no foraging for a corkscrew here! All of our appliances are top quality, including an extra full size refrigerator/freezer in the basement for your overflow drinks and produce.

An eight to ten minute walk from our front door leads you to Forest Beach on Nantucket Sound for swimming, birding, and water sports. If you want to drive your gear down there, parking is free. Following Forest Beach or the marsh path towards Chatham town, you will find our beautiful estuary. Watch the tides come and go, enjoy the shells and other ocean treasures at low tide. Go the other way on Forest Beach Road and you can easily walk to the Box Office Cafe, Pisces Restaurant, the Cape Cod bicycle path and Highway 28. A five to ten minute drive takes you to the Cape Cod National Seashore and all kinds of beaches, both fresh and salt water ponds, and eateries.

We also enjoy a small public park, a five minute walk from our front door, which includes a tennis court, basketball hoop, and jungle gym for the little ones. Our neighborhood is quiet and safe, with woodsy shortcuts between beaches and plenty of nature for the whole family to explore. Our own gardens are organically grown and we include numerous native plants as well as the old favorites, with a nice lawn and eye for seasonal color changes.

Our expansion of the original family home has created a wonderful and workable vacation getaway, where groups can gather for fun and scatter for privacy. In addition to the three bathrooms, we have a spacious outside shower with ramp and grab bars, and there is ample off street parking.

The ping pong rec room in our basement shares the space with a large laundry area and art studio with lots of natural light. There are two tv's down there and sofa, with plenty of room to fold and iron clothes or just hide out.

At every turn we have provided for our renters all those comforts that we ourselves enjoy, with amenities that will exceed your every expectation. Once you have experienced Paul & Mary's Place, you'll never want to go anywhere else.

About Martha Newman

I am an artist, mostly painter, specializing in wildlife, such as endangered species, and pet portraits. I have been lucky to enjoy both coasts, living most of the year in Redondo Beach California.

Martha Newman purchased this house in 2007

Why Martha Newman chose Chatham

My husband and I inherited the original home from his family and we began our remodeling in 2007.

What makes this house unique

Mostly I enjoy the fresh water pond swimming - this is not to be had where I live in LA and I love watching the trout and turtles swimming around in that spring fed environment. I also adore eating seafood and the Cape has the best.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We've enjoyed our time at the Cape, reconnecting with family and nature. There's a great energy in this place. We also love the eclectic artwork! It's just like home, only better!

Great Property and Owner!

  • 5 of 5
This was mine and my husband's first visit to the Cape. We had a great time! The house had everything we needed and was in a very convenient location. The neighborhood was quiet and was a great place to run or walk and is very close to the paved bike trail. Many of the properties require you to bring your own linens, toiletries, etc. This would have been very difficult since we were traveling by air. The owner provided EVERYTHING, including laundry detergent. She contacted us several times before our visit and was quick to get back to us if we had a question. She also provided a visitor's booklet which included their favorite restaurants, grocery stores, things to do, etc. If we make it back to Cape Cod, we will DEFINATELY stay at this property. I will also be passing this property info along to any friends or family who are planning to vacation there. I would HIGHLY recommend this property!

Home away from home.

  • 5 of 5
The words home away from home have never rung more true. From the second we arrived I felt at home more so than at any other home I visited on the Cape. The house has everything you could need, and more. The furniture was comfortable and the decks were a wonderful place to relax. The location is perfect, walk to the beach, short trip to Chatham, and convenient to everything Cape Cod. My family very rarely stays in the same home twice, but we will be back to Paul & Mary's Place.

A perfect vacation home

  • 5 of 5
This is an ideal home to share with family or good friends. Everything you'd need or want is provided for - including gorgeous perennial gardens. The quality of furnishings are top notch and the layout of the house allows for plenty of room for everyone. The location is ideal for those who love the outdoors. Nearby is a nice tennis court, the beach is a short walk away and the Cape Cod bike path is less than a mile from the house. Most importantly, Martha was great at responding to questions and making sure we had a terrific weekend. Thanks for everything!

Just Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful home. Everyone was so impressed with the accommodations! The weather was great, bedding prefect, bathrooms fantastic, kitchen fully equipped and the weber grill came in handy for making some traditional cape cod delights. The ping pawn table was a big hit, art work very cool and the garden is outstanding.

You should be very proud of what you have created, a five star accommodation.

Warm and inviting

  • 5 of 5
A party of seven, consisting of aunts from Florida and Arkansas, cousins from Boston and Texas and nieces got together for a girls week. We fell in love with this property, it warm and cozy. It accommodated everyone's needs. I would love to come back. Everything you needed was there. Walking distance to the beach, neighborhood was charming.

Off-season stay

  • 5 of 5
We loved this house!!! My daughter and her friends were on a 4-day college break so my husband and I found this lovely house in Chatham. It was perfect. The girls slept, ate, and watched the ecletic selection of movies in the house. Martha checked in with me a couple of times via email to make sure we had everything we needed.
We are from California and it was our first visit to Cape Cod. We liked the quiet, off-season feel. Most restaurants were open and there were plenty of things to do.
Suggestions for first time visitors to Cape Cod - especially if you arrive after dark: DO NOT rely solely on Google or Apple map applications. It was easy enough to find the house but not so easy to find the huge (but new) grocery store in Harwich, a few miles away. Get your bearings on paper maps before you go.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you mentioned that about the directions, I feel so often there should have been a better way....so pleased too that you had a good time and the house worked for you. Especially since you were a first time visitor, it's wonderful the Cape was good to you! Looking forward to many happy returns, Martha
