Situated on a half-acre lot among a grove of white-barked trees for which the neighborhood is named, Casa de Escape is a cozy, newly built (completed March, 2011), two bedroom casa minutes walk from the most popular windsurfing beach on East Cape. Located on a dead end road in the exclusive and quiet upscale neigborhood of Palo Blanco above North Beach a mile north of Los Barriles, just far enough off the beach for privacy yet with a view of the ocean from the rooftop veranda. The casa is surrounded by mountains which tame the winter winds on the beach to a gentle, cooling breeze. All utilities are underground, ensuring a pristine viewing environment.
Wake each morning to the sound of birds singing outside your windows, watch the sunrise from your rooftop veranda over the Sea of Cortez with a cup of coffee prepared in your fully equipped kitchen. During the day there are countless activities nearby, from world class fishing to scuba and exploring the arroyos (ask me about the waterfalls!) on quads, available for rent in town. Or just hang at the fully air conditioned casa for a quiet and relaxing day of sunbathing and reading your favorite book. For dinner, grill the day's catch on the gas grill or cook on the gas stove or oven and dine on the ramada covered deck off the kitchen, watching the sun set over the mountains to the west. Or run into town ('Just like Cabo was 30 years ago!') for dinner at one of the many great eateries. I have yet to have a bad meal in Los Barriles!
Floors are all tile, ceilings are ten feet high, with both air conditioning and celing fans throughout. The master bedroom is spacious, is equipped with a queen bed, armoire and nightstands, has many windows and its own sliding glass door to the front yard. The guest bedroom is a bit smaller, but has plenty of room for the double bed, nightstand, corner hutch and armoire, with two large windows looking out over the back yard. Both bedrooms and the living area have private doors to the bath, where you'll find a beautiful shower and a marble sink and counter, in addition to the stacked washer/dryer unit in it's own alcove. The kitchen is fully equipped, right down to the toaster, and boasts beautiful granite countertops and Mexican Pine cabinets. All utensils are provided, including a chef-quality cutlery set.
In the living area you'll find a futon that will fit two, provided you all are very comfortable with each other. Also, satellite TV is provided, along with an entertainment center including a dvd and CD player, an X-Box and a PlayStation and a library of CDs and dvds. Wifi is provided so you can keep in touch with work or family.
So, if you're looking for peace and quiet for a romantic getaway, or a place with privacy not far from the windsurfing or fishing in one of the most beautiful spots in Baja, try Casa de Escape:Clean, comfortable, cozy and private.
'The stars, like dust!' Try counting shooting stars from the rooftop veranda at night. Beautiful!
Self employed in Portland, Oregon for most of my life, I have been vacationing in all parts of the world for decades, but always liked Mexico because of the climate and the friendliness of the people. I intend to relocate to the casa when my daughter graduates from USF in a couple of years. I hope you'll find the house welcoming and comfortable and you enjoy your stay.
Bob purchased this house in 2010
Los Barriles is a relatively short flight from my home in Portland, the town is quiet and friendly, but offers many distractions in the off chance you get bored. I looked for a couple of years in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas as I have friends there, but finally decided that PV has become too crowded. I considered the Yucatan, but that's too far from Portland and has grown too much over the last 20 years as well. I had never been to Baja until a friend of mine who has a home there invited me down early in 2010, and that's all it took. I immediately fell in love with the small community and its friendly, welcoming people. We broke ground in November of 2010, finishing by March 1st of 2011.
I use the property for relaxation and SUN, something we get far too little of in the Pacific NW! I intend to retire here for at least 8 months out of the year within five years. It's so quiet and peaceful, but there's always something to do. The beach is so close, with the town and its amenities, including a first class medical clinic just a five minute drive away. Privacy and quiet is important to me, something the casa offers in spades, being just far enough off the beach to offer solitude, but close enough to both the beach and town that for those times I want to socialize I have but a short walk or even shorter drive. And the night life of Cabo is just 45 minutes down the road for those times I want to socialize a bit more than what is offered in Los Barriles.
We returned from Casa de Escape last night after having a wonderful week in Los Barriles, Everything listed about the property is exactly as stated or better, the beds were extremely comfortable, the kitchen well appointed, and the outside area had plenty of sitting and lounging options. Beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels and a cooler made everything complete.
We enjoyed evenings by the fire pit, stargazing on the roof and walking the beach at sunrise and sunset. I was accompanied by my 25 yr old daughter and her boyfriend and they enjoyed it as much, if not more and we're already planning on a return.
My partner and I stayed here for the 2013 New Years celebration along with another couple. The house is very well cared for with an excellent rooftop deck.all in all we had a wonderful time.
We just returned from our stay at Casa de Escape, and were pleased that all the other reviews were spot on! It was my husband and I, and three teenagers. The beds were very comfortable, and my 6'6" son slept on the futon (just threw a fitted sheet on it) and said it was fine. It was so nice to have the meal prepared by Lupe and brought to us the first night we arrived--what a thoughtful touch by Bob the owner!
It was also a lifesaver to have WiFi since we had no cell service there (Verizon). Dish satellite TV was nice in the evenings, as well as the Blu-Ray player, and PS3. Details like beach towels were appreciated too.
This was our second trip to Los Barriles, and we spent most of it beach-hopping. Tried to go to Cabo Pulmo one day, but the water was a bit choppy. However, on the way home we went to the beach by the lighthouse (just south of Punta Colorada) and found hundreds of sea shells which was fun. We went back to this beach another day just to hang out and play in the water and sand--beautiful secluded beach and we were the only ones there. Also went to beaches at Spa Buena Vista, Los Barriles, North Beach, and Punta Pescadero (amazing snorkeling but very rough road to get there).
Each evening we would pick up ice cream after dinner either at one of the local grocery stores or the ice cream place in the middle of town--terrific ice cream! Our absolute favorite restaurant was Campestre Triny -- you cannot go wrong with the fish of the day. My daugher who is a very picky eater enjoyed the yellowtail 3 days in a row. Our favorite breakfast/lunch place was Caleb's.
Don't forget to spend some time on the lounge chairs in front of the casa, and enjoy all the birds and wildlife. We saw cardinals, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, osprey, lizards, a jackrabbit, and more!
Thanks again for sharing your home, and making it a comfortable, relaxing week.

we had such a fabulous time...this house is perfect with all the amenities! Lupe fixed us a welcoming traditional dinner, sandy and debbie the neighbors, and ian the property manager were all wonderful...as was bob our host and owner!. easy location, great neighborhood, peaceful...and very restful. delightful water to swim in and tons of new exploring! snorkel at punta pescadero a must...if you are daring to drive a car over the coast road north :) extremely friendly town...but who needed to go out with bob's well stocked house and kitchen! roof top house views where we watched the sun and moon rise and set with the sea of cortez in the background could not be beaten, well except for the sunsets in la paz! all in all a great trip and super place to stay. thanks bob for all, celine and craig, arcata, ca 2013
Bob's description of the home and location is spot-on. Since this was our first trip to Mexico, we felt very safe and secure in this little town and our neighbors were delightful. We enjoyed the beaches and were not that far from the big towns if we wanted to go visit them. Bob's hospitality was over-the-top and we whole-heartedly recommend this place for a get-away vacation.
We had a great time staying in Los Barriles and went to waterfalls, snorkleing and rode around in ATV's. Our first night we had dinner served to us...which was a wonderful treat.
The house was definitely nicer than the pictures and had everything that we would need to have a great time! Very private for a romantic get away but we had the children this time. There is a playstation 3 for my teenager and lots of great movies. The beds where very comfortable and everything was very clean. The fans and air conditioning kept the house completely comfortable. The roof was a great place to hang out and watch the stars and for viewing the landscape. It was a far walk to the beach but was a nice hike. Very short drive to beach and town. I would come back! Thanks Bob for making our Thanksgiving wonderful!
