|Minimum Stay||3 - 5 nights|
Enjoy this newly renovated designer-outfitted jewel box 350-sq.ft. one-bedroom with all the modern conveniences, steps from the vibrant life of the East Village with its clubs, shops, bars, and restaurants, yet situated in a quiet block away from noise and bright lights. Though compact, it's 50% larger than most Manhattan hotel rooms and the two sleeping rooms have separate doors opening into a central kitchen/bath.
The property is owned and operated by native-born restaurateurs in an owner-occupied building. You will have easy access to everything in Manhattan (two bus lines stop at the corner and a subway station a few blocks away) and live in a real neighborhood with students, artists, and young families. Compact kitchen, TV/DVD player, computer with Internet access, towels and sheets provided. Please consult the calendar for availability BEFORE making a request--our calendar is quite full for 2013. Also check our newest apartment in the same building, #903716 as well as our larger loft studio #333327.
Booking process: The availability calendar shows only the dates which have been solidly booked or otherwise unavailable. We receive many requests for overlapping dates and have given up on the 'first-refusal' system, where we keep a list and give each person a chance to look over the offer separately. Instead, we have switched to a 'first come-first served' system whereby the first completed contract and payment received gets the apartment. If you are in a hurry, use the 'Book It Now' button--our calendar is up-to-the-minute in accuracy and online payments are instant and secure.
Please *do not* phone with inquiries--it is much clearer for us to communicate via e-mail. If your request is for a date clearly occupied on our availability calendar, please forgive us in advance for not responding.
Contract and payment details: The contract outlines our responsibilities to one another and the payment scheme. In general: You send a $300.00 (reservation/damage deposit) to secure your reservation (may need to be combined with other payments if your dates are close). At 60 days before your arrival, send 50% of the rental plus a $95.00 one-time cleaning charge. 14 days before your arrival, you will send the other 50% (plus taxes). The damage deposit is refundable after you've checked out and left everything in good order; banks take 5-10 business days to process your refund.
About us: This is more than just a line of business for us--hospitality is an integral part of who we are. The apartment is in an owner-occupied building, so you're not dealing with a faceless management agency with music on hold, you are dealing with a neighbor and true host. We aspire to offer you the kind of experience we would give to our own family and friends in New York, where you enjoy the comforts of your own home while in one of the world's greatest cities and will want to return again and again.
The apartment on 11th street is a terrific home base from which to explore Manhattan! It had everything we needed, and in a perfect location—less than a mile to the #6 Lexington Ave line for east side access, and only a little further to the #1 for west side access. Either gets you to Central Park. Thom and Jim are professionals and have created a simple and enjoyable experience for their renters. We were provided with all the information we needed for easy access to the apartment, including a terrific recommendation for using Dial7 car service to and from the airport. Other recommendation ideas are contained in a handy binder in the apartment. We chose Ost Café as our morning coffee shop and Westville East for several other meals. There are numerous restaurant choices within blocks of the apartment. We were walking distance to the legendary Katz’s Deli and Lombardi’s Pizza. Quirky Village shops, the Strand Bookstore, Washington Square Park and the Highline are all within walking distance—we enjoyed them all! It is also only a few blocks east to the East River Promenade for a walk along the water. When we come back to NYC we’ll definitely be staying at this apartment!
The apartment was very clean, and we did not experience any problems during our stay. We actually spent very little time in the apartment (mostly sleeping). But it was comfortable and a warm respite from the cold outside. Thomas recommended some great restaurants in the area. Our favorites were Sichuan Hot Kitchen, Halal Guys, Otto Enoteca, Black Market or 5-Napkins or Brindle Room for burgers, Momofuku Noodle Bar and Ippudo. The location is perfect for us (So many good food venues within walking distance). Bus line is a 5 minute walk. Subway stop (The L at 14th St and 1'st Ave) is the same. Union Square is about 15 minutes. I would definitely recommend this place to our friends and anyone who is able to negotiate a few stairs and enjoys walking in the city. Although I cannot comment on customer service during our stay, I did contact Thomas with questions via email several times before our stay, and each time he replied in a very timely manner.
Our stay was so lovely at this apartment! Thomas has put together a NY oasis that gave us a brilliant locale to base our city adventure. Highly recommended.
Thank you again so much,
Laura and Michael Campbell, Omaha NE
I surprised my husband for his 30th birthday with a trip to NYC and we both couldn't have been happier staying in this apartment. Thom had so many thoughtful details, that I would not have even thought of or expected. The subway was just a 10 minute walk, also there are really great restaurants within walking distance (Tompkins Square Bagels, Crif Dogs, Whitmans). There was plenty of room in the apartment for my husband and I, there would be enough room for us and our two small kids, as well. The apartment was on a quiet street and we never had any noise problems (from within the complex or outside). Also, what made this trip so enjoyable and easy was all of Thom's great communication. He emailed us everything we would need to know about getting to the apartment and getting in, and around. I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone going to the East Village.
I hate to write this - I don't want others booking up this place!. Convenient, quiet, good furnishings, comfortable, fast internet, well stocked, clean. Second time we've stayed at one of Thom's apartments and we'll be back. There is some noise from the entry hall in the building, you will hear people on the street but it is a quiet place. Small kitchen but there are plenty of places to go out to eat or get take out. Bathroom is fine, bed is fine, it is a good solid place.
Steps away from Tompkins Square Park in the East Village, you are in the midst of one of Manhattan's most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods, replete with cafes, restaurants, boutiques, galleries and bars, yet with easy access to all that New York has to offer. Two bus routes, M14D and M9, leave from our corner and connect you to any subway line every 4-8 minutes, or you can walk to the 1st Avenue station on the L in about 10 minutes.
