The owners of Qamea Resort & Spa, a world renowned exclusive island resort in Fiji, have recently finished the renovations on their beach cottage in Hawaii and are offering it for rental.
Located on Oahu's famous North Shore, Waialua Beach Hale is on a quiet and secluded sand beach (you can walk for miles on white sand), in one of Hawaii's original neighborhoods - Waialua. The North Shore's claim to fame last century was the sugar cane industry, but now it is spectacular beaches, surf, and sunsets.
This is an original 1929 beachside cottage that was in the same family since 1929 until we purchased it in 2009. The house has now been fully restored and modernized with all the modern conveniences including air conditioning in all bedrooms for maximium comfort, while at the same time maintaining the charm and character of the plantation era.
Only 45 minutes after you pick up your luggage at Honolulu International Airport, you will be relaxing on your private and quiet 600 sq/ft covered lanai with expansive and unobstructed views of the ocean, beach, and the occasional surfer. From the other side of the house there is an uncovered deck that faces the beautiful Waianae Mountain Range, the tallest mountains on Oahu.
This is a quiet neighborhood that is outside of the madness of most Oahu and other Hawaiian tourist areas. Our beach is incredible, protected by an outer reef, and is frequented by sea turtles. The perfect destination for a relaxing and memorable Hawaiian getaway.

In 2003 we became the owners of Qamea Resort & Spa in Fiji, and we have owned properties on Oahu's North Shore since 1998. Hawaii is our getaway from the craziness of owning a luxury resort, and where we recharge our batteries.
Previously our home was on Sunset Beach, but we moved to Waialua to get away from the massive traffic and tourists. We spend several months a year in Hawaii to relax, unwind, and enjoy what we think is the best that Hawaii has to offer.
Ron or Fabian purchased this house in 2009
Perfect white sand beach, quiet neighborhood, protected beach that is swimmable year round, and close to Honolulu International Airport.
Our own slice of paradise. Sooo relaxing! Most enjoyable moments swimming with the turtles, the warm water, the views from the deck. Close to Haleiwa for all your needs. Gliding at Dillingham airfield, one off the bucket list. Absolutely fantastic, but must book in advance. Spent a day at Waikele Premium Outlet for shopping - an absolute must for bargains. All our dinners at Haleiwa were fantastic. We don't want to leave this fabulous place. Everybody we met has been most hospitable. Bryce and Ron thank you so much for sharing your piece of paradise.
My husband and seven-year-old daughter and I just spent a week in this beautiful cottage and we couldn’t be any happier. The cottage is just steps from the beach in a quiet neighborhood. The house is nicely furnished and very well equipped. The beds are so comfortable, the kitchen is perfectly set up for extensive cooking and dining. There were plenty of towels and even beach chairs and boogie board.
This isn’t the place to stay if you want to be in the middle of the action. You need to drive a short way (5-10 minutes) to find bars or restaurants. But that isn’t what we were after. We wanted to spend time on the beach, snorkeling, playing in the waves and sand. We went for runs (there is a bike trail right near the house and quiet streets nearby that are safe for runners and bikers). And you can walk along the beach for miles. We felt like we were on a private beach - for most of the week, we saw fewer than ten people per day. Other, more well-known beaches on the North Shore were packed and not nearly as nice as the one right out the back door.
The best snorkeling that we found on the North Shore was right outside our back door. Every day we saw turtles, incredible fish and loads of birds, geckos and lizards. There are nice restaurants nearby, but we ate very well at the cottage. We took easy drives (30 minutes or so) to see the surfers at Pipeline and to enjoy an easy, pretty walk to a waterfall at Waimea Valley. An easy walk with a seven-year-old with great payoff with the flowers and waterfall (be sure to enjoy the Onopops – amazing)!
Important to note that one of the rooms is accessed from the back deck – rather than through the interior of the house. This won’t matter if you have all adults in your party or older kids, but we weren’t comfortable using that very nice room with our daughter alone in the “main house”.
We hope to return soon. The cottage and location are first rate.
We loved staying at this beautiful beachfront cottage. It was perfect for our family of four on our week long stay on the North Shore. We loved being minutes away from Haleiwa and all our favorite places for breakfast (Cafe Haleiwa and Kono's especially, though we drive a little farther for Ted's Bakery). We timed our stay perfectly to have two weekends of grilled chicken from Ray's Kiawe Broiled Chicken takeout from the same parking lot as Malama Market (for supplies and fresh poke go up the road to Foodland). We could go into Haleiwa for shave ice at Matsumoto's or Aloha General Store or to the Coffee Mill down the street in Waialua with all natural syrups - yum.
The location is perfect, especially being south of the traffic that can remind you of being on the mainland -- except you're between Waimea Bay and the Turtle Bay Resort. We timed our trip just right to fly into Honolulu, make a stop at Costco, and got to the beach by the afternoon.
Walking out to our own beach every morning, and watching the sunset every night while our kids played in the water - we thought more than once of selling everything and moving to Hawaii! We really felt at home.
The owner and his team were extremely easy to work with and sent prompt and detailed information from the time we reserved the home throughout our stay - they made our trip a breeze! It is a beautiful home that we were privileged to share and will definitely visit again.
I'm reluctant to write a review as I don't want too many people to know how much we enjoyed Ron's house in Waialua - our kids couldn't believe he doesn't live here all year around! As others have mentioned, the house - if anything - is better than the photos. It's tastefully decorated, with everything we needed but no clutter. The beds are very comfortable, the beach is at the end of the garden, and the neighbourhood is very quiet. At times the only other 'people' we could see from the beach were the sea turtles swimming in the lagoon. Ron was very helpful, and we knew Samantha was close by if we had any problems (which we didn't). As well as cooking at home, we enjoyed burritos from the Beet Box cafe on wheels near Shark Cove, pizzas from Spaghettini, and ate burgers from KuaAina in Halaeiwa on 3 separate occasions. The local supermarket was fine for everything we needed, and the Saturday morning market at the Sugar Factory had fresh fish and vegetables for sale. We would definitely recommend this property for a perfectly relaxing beach family holiday.
Everything about our stay at this North Shore Bungalow was perfect. The quiet stunning location, the bungalow, the weather, the ocean and great company. This home has absolutely everything you could possibly need or want for the perfect vacation. Loved the large deck (Lanai )fully furnished and looking out to sea, great Weber BBQ, great kitchen facilities and the beds/pillows were just the best. The waters are crystal clear and the sunrises and sunsets amazing. The town of Haleiwa is only a 6 minute drive away and the drug store and supermarket had everything we needed for our supplies. We loved the local art and crafts and also managed some retail therapy here. Haleiwa Joes which overlooks the harbour was a great place for lunch/dinner or simply a drink . There are also many other eating out options here. We found Waialua an easy drive from the airport and to Pearl Harbour, If you haven't done this before, it is a must. Only a 10 minute drive to Sunset beach but on the weekends an hour so its best if you can avoid this or as we did go very early on weekend morning. This home is very well maintained and Samantha the property manager was on hand within minutes to help us with an issue we had with the key on arrival. The photos do reflect accurately but I would agree with others....this bungalow is even better than photographed possibly due to the space and the personal touches added by the owners. We simply had the best vacation possible.
Everything we imagined and better, small white cottage on the beach with privacy and gorgeous outlook. We had the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. Nothing to do but lay in the sun, go for walks, swim in the shallow reef and crystal clear water, watch the sunset at night while seeing whales breach in the distance. Romantic getaway, pristine house with modern amenities and gorgeous decor. Very well equipped kitchen, making the stay even better as we only had to visit the grocery store twice in one week. We will be coming back, and look forward to planning our next trip. We also saw sea turtles every day. Amazing.
Thank you so much for sharing this gem with us, if you ever want to sell let us know! x
