THE CABIN: Surrey House is a large, 2-story family sized home, comfortably and eclectically furnished, with plenty of room for all. Upstairs you will find two living rooms, a fully-stocked kitchen, dining area, and a bathroom, as well as a fabulous balcony for relaxing under the pines. Board games, books, a large tv, stereo equipment, and multiple seating options will keep you comfortable and entertained. Downstairs is another bathroom (both have showers only, no bathtubs), washer and dryer, and the 3 bedrooms. One bedroom has a cal-king bed, and one has a unique bunk bed that has 3 (one pull-out) twin mattresses. The final bedroom has a double bed, small tv, gas fireplace, and a private entry.
Guests of Surrey House also have Twain Harte Lake privileges, and can enjoy all the Lake has to offer for a fee of $5 per person per day, payable directly to the Gatehouse.
THE PROPERTY: Surrey House sits on a tree-studded, beautiful, 1/3 of an acre, and is one of the largest lots (if not the largest) in the neighborhood. Most important though is the fun to be had! There is a charming, one-of-a-kind putting green in the front, a ping pong table in the back, and plenty of room for the kids to run around a safe distance from the street. Below the ping pong table is yet another outdoor seating option, along with a built-in charcoal barbeque. This pine-scented area offers good privacy, comfortable seating, and convenient proximity to the kitchen. In addition, there is covered parking for one vehicle, and plenty of space to park more cars.
THE LOCATION: Surrey House is ideally located near downtown Twain Harte. You can walk to the coffee shop, the playground, municipal pool, the skate park, the 9-hole golf course, the basketball courts at the school, multiple restaurants, gift shops, and the miniature golf course. All of downtown is easily accessible, and Twain Harte Lake is approximately 1 mile away.
Or, you can hop in the car and head to Yosemite for the day (about an hour away) or go to Pinecrest Lake for a day of hiking or fishing. The historic Town of Columbia is a short drive away, as well as Cover's apple farm. For the train enthusiast, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown is also a short drive away, as is mainstream shopping in Sonora.
A great house, fabulous yard, and excellent location make it hard for Surrey House to be beat!

We were lucky enough to spend the Thanksgiving long weekend at the Surrey House in Twain Harte, and we absolutely loved it! It's a beautiful property, in a beautiful area, and was a great place to relax and unwind over the holiday.
Most of our time was spent cooking/eating, playing cards and board games, reading by the woodstove, walking around Twain Harte, and, of course, playing ping pong! It seemed like there were lots of recreational opportunities in the area, but we were looking for a more low-key vacation. Even though the house certainly isn't isolated, it was always nice and quiet, and when the sun went down we'd forget that there were neighbors nearby. Since it was Thanksgiving, we were a little worried if the kitchen would be big enough and stocked with enough cookware. We brought some extra cookware just in case, and even though the kitchen is a little narrow, it has tons of counter-space and more than enough cookware for a full Thanksgiving meal!
Lastly, Paul was extremely helpful and easy to deal with. He offered a lot of good info about the area and what to expect, and was quick to respond to any questions I had, whether via email or phone. We would definitely come back here again, whether for Thanksgiving or just a random trip in the future.
I would highly reccomend The Surrey House! It surpassed all our expectations. The owners were wonderful to work with. They were so accomodating and responded promptly with any questions we had. It was so clear how much care and love they put into the cabin. It was clean, comfortable and had an overall wonderful 'Feel'. We loved the sleeping set up with all 3 bedrooms downstairs. We spent time at the lake, walked into town and had a wonderful lunch at "The Rock", we shopped at a couple consignment shops for souveniers and play mini golf. What a fun course! And just loved hanging out at the cabin doing nothing while the kids ran around and played. We hope to come back again and again!! Thank you!!
Very much enjoyed our stay. Great for families, lots of indoor and outdoor space to entertain, well-stocked kitchen, short walk to town. Beds are comfortable, rooms are spacious, just a great place to have family-time. The owner is very responsive and You'll feel right at home when you walk in the door. Hope to come back next year.
Recently stayed here for a week with my wife and two teenagers. The first impression we had upon arriving was how clean it was! Everything was neat and tidy.
The house is situated away from the street, up a slight hillside. Two bedrooms, a bunk bedroom and one bathroom are on the lower level while the spacious living rooms, kitchen and 2nd bath are above. The upper level is accessible from the back of the house as though it were the first floor.
You will enjoy having coffee on the front deck that faces some beautiful trees - the feeling is that you are sitting amidst a great forest! The back porch features an outdoor dining and seating area, perfect for entertaining. We enjoyed all of our dinners outside.
Inside there are two large living rooms, one of which has a large screen TV. There are lots of places to sit, read, or simply relax in a quiet area.
All in all this home is among the finest you'll find in Twain Harte. I have been vacationing here for over 50 years and once lived nearby for two years, so I know the town well. This neighborhood is quiet (once the next door dogs get used to you), and is very convenient to all the sights and tourist areas. Twain Harte lake is a short one mile drive, while a well stocked grocery store is less than a mile away. We were able to walk into town quite easily to play pee-wee golf, and there are a few nice restaurants in town. Villa D'Oro has very good Italian food.
We drove the 90 miles to see Yosemite one day, on another day went to Columbia (25 minute drive), and also explored the "Moaning Cavern" on their adventure tour. If you enjoy cycling, there are numerous roads to ride.
Enjoy the Magic of Twain Harte-you won't be disappointed at this house!
