Heaven

  • 5 of 5
My hi and and I met up with our daughter, son in law and two grandchildren for a together weekend.this was prefect. We were able to adventure out but still peaceful evening. The best was the outside fireplace...every evening was spent together on the porch with the fire. Hot dogs and marshmallows were the hit. This was stocked with all the pots and pans but also spices and general items. Wonderful array of Amish baked goods welcomed us and plenty of coffee. We will be back. My husband and I (both in 60's) stayed the spiral steps...certainly I won't run down them but we were safe and comfortable. Just an odd occurance...we came to look at a goldendoodle pup and purchased one our first day to be picked up on our way home. The first night sitting around the fire in walks beautiful dog...appeared to be goldendoodle and we thought named Trexie. Well mannered and enjoyed children for about hour.

Owner's Response: Thank you. Yes, the farm is so beautiful during the fall and sitting around the fireplace is a perfect cozy setting. Apparently you met one of the horse borders dogs - very cute story.

Wonderful Rural Scenic Holiday

  • 4 of 5
Our daughter lives in Brooklyn, NY and we were unable to see her last Thanksgiving, so my wife gave me orders to make sure we were able to spend the holiday with her this year. After a little research, I found the perfect place to meet and spend the holidays with our daughter and not have to go into the BIG city. Shallowbrook Farm was the perfect location. We arrived in time to enjoy a brief but pretty snow fall on the rural country side, as our daughter made her way from New York via train from Penn Station to Lancaster.

The accomodations were wonderful and even included some tasty homemade baked treats. Every where you looked on the farm it reminded you of a charming postcard or a beautiful landscape painting. It is conveniently located to Lancaster, PA while maintaining a rural setting. I very much enjoyed visiting the market in Lancaster. The people are very friendly and talented in their various crafts and trades. They offered high quality products at very reasonable prices.

I highly recommend this rental for those who are wanting to get in touch with the beauty of nature, while, sourrounded by friendly people in a very relaxed and peaceful envirnoment.

Lovely cottage in Penn Dutch country

  • 5 of 5
We spent three nights in this adorable cottage and wished we had booked a 4th. As soon as we pulled up we knew we had chosen the right place to stay. We were welcomed with a plate of cookies and fruit and coffee for our stay. The cottage was beautifully decorated with plenty of space to relax with friends or have some private time. Although we did not use the washer/dryer, it is definitely a nice amenity to have. One of our favorite things about the cottage was the screened-in porch and outside fireplace. Every morning we enjoyed breakfast on the porch and after a day of sightseeing we returned and relaxed with wine, cheese and crackers on the porch or in front of the fireplace.

The bedrooms were spacious and nicely decorated. Although the winding staircase to the second-floor bedroom was a little daunting at first, it only took a few trips upstairs to get used to it. But if you have any problems with stairs I would definitely ask about it.

The house is located on a 50 acre horse farm and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the horses in the pasture in the morning and late afternoon. It is also close to all Amish sightseeing and visits to the quaint shops in Bird-in-Hand and Settler's Village.

The owners were wonderful to deal with, and offered all sorts of information on the sights in the area.

I would definitely recommend this cottage for a week-long vacation or a quick get away. We can't wait to return.

Owner's Response: Thank you Gail. We hoped the outdoor fireplace would be a desirable feature, and glad to hear you enjoyed it so much. Along with the comfy, deep seating furniture, it is a lovely, scenic way to sip your favorite beverage and/or toast some marshmallows. We agree, the spiral stairs to the 2nd floor are easy to maneuver once you get the hang of it. The first floor bedroom is ideal for those who don't want to go upstairs. Again, thanks so much and we'll see you again in the future.

Vacation 2013

  • 5 of 5
Our family went on vacation to this lovely home for a week in the middle of July. We were hoping for cooler weather in the north, but it turned out to be hotter in Pennsylvania than North Carolina for the whole week!! We still had a wonderful time and enjoyed this charming cottage so much! It had everything we needed and many extras that were greatly appreciated. There was so much to do in a short distance - we went to Hershey Park, tubing down the river twice (this was so much fun), the canopy ziplines, plenty of shopping and eating. This would be a perfect place for an anniversary trip or a couples getaway! It is such a peaceful place and very quiet. However, my son and niece went with us and they are both in their 20's and they loved it! We are hoping to return again in the future!!

The property was charming, peaceful, and quiet.

We could not have been more pleased with our experience renting this cottage. The property was exactly as described, and the owners were very considerate and helpful. They even let us extend the check out time, as they had no one checking in that day. The location is perfect all the areas sightseeing and your shopping needs are within a ten minute drive, yet you are in a very secluded and quiet location. We live in South Florida, and quiet never sounded so good. It was wonderful to sit out on the porch and have our coffee, listen to the birds, and watch the horses graze. The property is extremely clean, and we never needed anything that wasn't provided. If you need the upstairs bedroom, be careful using the tight circular stairway, and in the summer, it can be quite warm. That said, teenagers or young adults will love it. The beds are super comfortable, and its great to have a washer and dryer. During our stay, the owners had an outside wood burning fireplace built , which will be an additional enjoyment. If you want to see the real Amish way of life, this is the perfect place, You will see many buggies, working mule teams, and mile after mile of corn fields and peaceful pastoral settings. We hope to return one day to this property.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jan and David. So happy you had an enjoyable stay in the Cottage. Since we just listed this home in April, and even though it has all brand new furnishings and mechanicals, we continue to fine tune and improve this adorable Cottage. As one of our guests recently said, it just keeps getting better and better. Shallowbrook is truly a special place to come home to after a day of sightseeing, shopping, and taking in all the attractions Lancaster has to offer. If you love the scenic peacefulness and quiet of the country, Shallowbrook is for you.

We would love to have you back Jan and David!

While Lancaster County is world-renowned for its population of Amish people and it's gorgeous countryside, it also has many other attractions to occupy your time. You will love the wide variety of shopping available, whether it's Outlet stores, antiquing, malls or little roadside shops and craft stores. There's also self-guided tours of our famous covered bridges as well as so much beautiful farm land to drive through. You might enjoy the popular hot air balloon rides for a different perspective of the landscape or even a horse and buggy ride. For the kids, there are a couple much loved amusement parks within an easy drive of the home or would they love getting 'lost' in the corn maze. Try your hand at picking your own peaches, cherries or apples at the nearby orchards. So many things to see and do. Of course, you can stay right at home and enjoy the sights and peacefulness of Shallowbrook Farm.
