This beautiful house is just 15 minutes drive from the San Jose International Airport (SJO), the main airport. It is located in a nice quiet neighborhood, a short drive from downtown Alajuela a charming town where you can find all the amenities of a city such as shopping, theatres, restaurants and plenty of cultural life. If you don't have a car, the easiest transportation from the house is the bus system to downtown Alajuela. The bus stops just 10 meters from the house. You can enjoy downtown Alajuela or go anywhere in the country by bus or taxi. The location is ideal as a central point to make day-trips to volcanoes, mountains and the beach. NO four-wheel drive car required, the roads are perfectly well paved.
The house’s location is known for having the BEST climate in the world, the temperature is perfect all year-round. The Central Valley, where the main cities are, is surrounded by mountains, which give the area a perfect breeze and a great amount of sunlight, you will feel like in paradise.
The house has Spanish ceramic tile throughout and has plenty of living space, the patio has ceramic tile and a nice garden with sculptures.
It has two nice cozy bedrooms and one large bathroom, which accommodates four people. The house has very large windows which allow for lots of natural light.
The location is a central point for day-trips to volcanoes, mountains and the beach. A must day-trip is to the beautiful active Poas Volcano and National Park located 25 Km from the house. This Volcano has an amazing 1.6 Km diameter crater and its lake Botos is located 1 Km from the crater, the vegetation is unique and truly exotic.
Another recommended day-trip is to Jaco Beach, Herradura beach or Dona Ana beach in the Pacific Coast located 88 Km West from the house. The road is well paved and suitable for traveling in Summer or Green seasons. Jaco is famous for its amazing waves...
For a taste of typical Costa Rican food there are several restaurants in the area. We recommend 'La Garita' town a 10 minute drive from the house, we recommend the restaurant 'Las Delicias del Maiz' or 'La Fiesta del Maiz'. Once there, visit the Zoo-Ave to experience a variety of tropical birds and wildlife and the Butterfly Farm in the same area. For more restaurants, shopping and all services visit downtown Alajuela only 20 minutes from the house. For a taste of the finest Costa Rican art crafts visit Sarchi, a town located 25 minutes from the house. You will enjoy the drive through sugar cane and coffee plantations.
Costa Rica has plenty of public transportation to anywhere in the country. It is a small country where you can go from volcanoes to beaches on a day trip.
You will go home knowing the meaning of 'Pura Vida'!
My family purchased the land and built the house and have been keeping up with remodeling and maintaining the house in perfect shape.
Victoria Torres purchased this house in 1980
The house has been expanded o add more living space to make it more charming for a feeling of a vacation house. We wanted to built it the Costa Rican way: hardwood ceilings, ceramic tile floors, patios, lots of light... It is really perfect to vacation!
The best part of staying at this house is the central location in the country which allow us to day-trips to anywhere from volcanos and mountains to the beach and come back to a nice quiet and charming place.
We mostly enjoy the tranquility of the area and how neat and fresh the house is.
We enjoy walking along the street and seeing coffee and sugar cane plantations and the nice neighborhood. Most neighbors are farmers who grow cattle, chicken, coffee, fruits and vegetables.
A short 100 meters walk from the house will take you to a typical Costa Rican 'pulperia' or little grocery store where you can get freshly baked bread every morning and the basic groceries.
We stayed at this property for six weeks. If I could give a separate review for the service we received from the owner/manager (Victoria & Guillermo) of this property, it would have to be 5 stars+++. When we had a bit of difficulty with the wireless service on arrival, within a very short time, the owner sent a very knowledgable and pleasant young man to help us. Same story with the microwave that quit working - it was replaced with a new one within about an hour. The house was great, the back yard amazing (loved the lime tree; it provided us with refreshing lime-ade for the whole time), surrounding scenery is spectacular, weather was incredible, and the people warm and friendly. It was an easy drive to shopping, and to the Doka Coffee Plantation, Poas Volcano, and the Lapaz Waterfalls, along with some great restaurants near the falls. We enjoyed a few good meals at the sodas in San Isidro. If there was one very small thing I would add for long term stays, it would be to have a vacuum cleaner available. We would stay at this place again in a heartbeat. We were very sad to lock up and leave on our last day.
We have stayed at 7 different vacation rentals in Costa Rica over the past 10 weeks and we felt that Victoria and her brother Guillermo were the most attentive hosts of our trip. Victoria was prompt in responding to our emails and helpful and accurate with directions; Guillermo welcomed us to the home, actually showed us where everything was and how to work everything and was very helpful in connecting us with a reliable taxi driver to take us to our departing flight at 3:50 AM! The house was as advertised and well-maintained.
The house was very clean and the backyard was really nice to sit in and watch/listen to, the birds. The bus goes right by the house (stand along the road where you see a yellow rectangle) and Alajuela is a major hub for the bus system. We took the bus to San Jose one day. The house is ~20 minutes from Alajuela by car.
This is a family neighbourhood along a road leading farther up the mountain. The motorcycle traffic was somewhat loud as people travelled by but we got used to it after the first night. We also arrived on a Saturday and the neighbours were having a party! That was a rough night but not in the hosts control and the rest of our stay was fine.
We used this place to make day trips to Poas, into San Jose and to Atenas. We would definitely stay there again. Thanks!
Pretty property. Comfortable. Lots of room. There is a beautiful back yard with a great view. The little grocery was great for fresh bread, egss, etc. We were very comfortable and the location was close to Alejuela's zoo etc.
Situated in the suburbs in Alajuela (very close when we drove to Poas Volcano) – a beautiful house, lovely garden and yard, very cool, southwest charmer with everything we needed to make our stay special. The house is close enough to friends and markets and far enough away from the busy city. It was calm and quiet, perfect weather and a warm/ cold water shower. This two bedroom was bigger than we thought. Lots of space and well-designed sitting areas both inside and outside. The home was comfortable, well stocked with kitchen ware, towels, washer, etc. All pertinent info regarding the area and the house was thoughtfully prepared and readily available. Victoria, the owner, made it extremely easy to survive in a home away from home. We entertained guests in the dining room / family room and all were satisfied and pleased and had an excellent time. We would recommend this house to anyone and we hope to stay again when we can.
We enjoyed our stay in this house in Alajuela. We are a family of five with three older kids. They supplied us with a twin mattress and twin air mattress so there was plenty of sleeping and living space. The property was very clean and well maintained. The house is very secure, full of light and the backyard is beautiful. We enjoyed the view of the mountains and the birds that visit the yard.
The location is ideal for exploring the Central Valley of Costa Rica, such as Volcan Poas, the coffee plantations and Sarapiqui. We had a car so it was very easy to go on day trips from the house. We also took the bus one day, and the bus stop was located very close to the house.
We enjoyed walking the neighborhood and visiting the pulperias and sodas, although cars drive very fast along the street where the house is located.
We enjoyed our stay in beautiful Costa Rica. The Alajuela house is situated in a great location, allowing you to spring board to many other destinations in the region. The accommodations at the Alajuela house are great. The house is large and it has many modern features. The backyard is great and there are a few fruit trees with an excellent view of the mountains. My family and I would definitely return to Alajuela.
Close to Downtown Alajuela a charming larger city with shopping, theatre, restaurants and plenty of cultural life. Forty minutes from amazing Poas volcano. ZooAve and Butterfly Farm only 8 minutes away. Ten minutes from La Garita town well known for their Costa Rican cuisine restaurants. Twenty minutes from Sarchi, town of art craft.
