Comfortable and spacious 2000 square foot home built in 2007 with direct waterfront on the North Shore of historic Isle La Motte. The 1.2 acre property located on a private dead end road includes 225 feet of lakefront on peaceful Blanchard Bay, with the added convenience of both a boat ramp and dock for the boating enthusiast.
This 3 bedroom 2.5 bath home filled with modern amenities features a great room with a wall of windows facing the lake that steps out onto a beautiful garden patio with custom stonework. Whether to enjoy the morning sunrise with a cup of coffee, the beautiful sunset with a glass of wine, or s’mores by the campfire, the patio and large lawn area overlooking the lake has plenty of seats for all.
My husband and I followed our hearts and purchased the original cabin in 1986 as a young couple with two small boys. Our family grew with the addition of two more boys, and together we enjoyed campfires, our pontoon boat, and wiffle ball games on the large lawn. Many changes have occurred in recent years; the cabin was replaced with a spacious home in 2007, our boys have gone off to college and moved away, and my husband and I sold our family home in Vermont and moved to New Hampshire. Finding that we are not able to return to the lake often we decided to share our beautiful and relaxing getaway with others.
Mary and Don Russell purchased this house in 1986
Although neither of us had ever been to the Island of Isle La Motte, we immediately fell in love with Blanchard Bay. Over the years our family has created lasting memories; taking advantage of uninterrupted time together without the pressures of everyday life. To this day I immediately relax as I pull in the driveway just knowing the hammock is waiting for me.
Located on a private dead-end road as well as a protected bay, our home has easy access to the lake via a boat ramp. With 225 feet of lakeshore and over an acre of land, there's plenty of room for lawn games and the kids to run around. Oh, and we LOVE the screen house and fire pit added in 2012!
Our family had a wonderful stay at this spacious, clean, and fully-stocked house. The kids (5 & 3 yrs.) loved the large lawns, the shed full of toys, the paddleboat, inflatables, and all the room in the house. Croquet, baseball, frisbees, life jackets, badminton, golf clubs and balls, all kinds of fun stuff to play with and great lawns to do it on. The screened in porch is a great resting spot (hammock) and we used the outside fire pit often. The house is relatively new and so it is very clean and orderly, with nearly any household need accounted for. We have rented a couple lake houses in this area and this is the cleanest, neatest one we've seen. If you are tired of "camp" style houses then this may be for you.
The waterside view is spectacular with a quiet little bay looking north toward Canada. The water was nice; slightly weedy, rocky bottom, very shallow. The only drawback is the shallowness of the water (the lake was down when we were there -not sure how the level has change since) which made swimming a little awkward and made it difficult to use a boat. We tried to rent a pontoon boat and were told that we weren't allowed to by the boat rental place (North Hero Marina - not recommended) that we couldn't because it was too shallow in our bay. This was a bit of a bummer but we were able to rent a boat at a different location, just not able to bring it up to the house. The owners told me this was unusual and that they usually have plenty of guests keep boats at the dock so I would just be wary of this situation and maybe arrange something in advance. The cement boat ramp would make it easy to launch your own boat, however. We also rented stand-up paddle boards at Hero's Welcome which is a great place to rent things as well as a fantastic lunch spot and tourist shop.
The owners Don and Mary were extremely accommodating and friendly - and accessible - and overall I would highly recommend this house to any family.
The pictures on the site do not do this house justice: the location is breathtaking, the house inviting and meticulous and the lawn is fantastic for yard games (which were provided). The owners were very responsive to every question we asked. We enjoyed the paddle boat (which was provided), we biked and ran around the island and did some daytrips (Montreal and Burlington, both of which were only about an hour away). Highly recommend!! Thank you Mary & Don!
This home was the perfect setting for a relaxing vacation! The house itself was in perfect condition with everything needed to make meals and relax. The outside furniture, gazebo, fire pit and lake access were perfect for our entire family to enjoy time together. I hope to come back next summer for another perfect getaway!
We had a wonderful week long vacation with our children and their children, the youngest of whom was just 16 mos. The house was immaculately clean and the main living area is open and spacious. There was plenty of room in two of the bedrooms to put down air mattresses for the kids to sleep on and the beds were comfy - also all made up when we got there, which I so appreciated. The kitchen had everything we needed to fix meals for the week and we also used the fairly large grill. There were small and thoughtful touches throughout the house and we never needed to buy anything other than the food for meals.
We brought bikes, a boat, and a kayak, went fishing, tubing, and water skiing. There are flower beds, a humming bird feeder just outside the slider, and raspberry bushes that the kids checked every day for ripe berries. I wish I could have stayed longer. It's a lovely spot on Lake Champlain and would highly recommend it
Lovely home, lovely setting. We were right on the water yet off the main roads so very quiet and it felt private yet not too secluded. We thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit and biked all over the island, islands and north off island to Canada. Only 1 hour from Montreal and that was a fun day trip.
We wish we had brought our kayaks, the weather was so warm!
Owners helpful with instructions and ideas in advance.
Highly recommend this well-furnished, charming and comfortable home for anyone looking for a lakeside vacation.
My wife and two young children and I spent a lovely week in this home. This house is very well designed with lovely views of the lake, large lawn, screened in gazebo with great hammock, a fire pit for night time story reading and S'mores, and large lawn for throwing a softball. We rented a motorboat from a local marina and kept it at the house for a few days which was perfect. Recommend it highly.
