Just perfect!

Browsing the listings at HomeAway, I was a bit cautious when I enquired about availability for this apartment - the internet is a place filled with scammers and a warning bell sounded in my mind when I found an apartment in the coolest part of the city for a decent price and with nothing but 5-star reviews. "Too good to be true" indeed.

I was however sufficiently reassured by the e-mails and video Skype call I had with the hosts prior to wiring the deposit. They were extremely understanding and accommodating - they even showed me their business license to make me feel at ease.

I am afraid that I'll have to write yet another 5-star review, and this is why:

LOCATION: Just amazing. In the middle of quiet street in the heart of the East Village without much traffic noise, but with an abundance of magnificent restaurants and bars within 5 minutes of walking. Quite artsy and hip, and very very cool! Close to buses and subways that will quickly take you to other parts of Manhattan and the neighbouring boroughs. The downside? - Living in the coolest area of Manhattan, after the first days of exploring the city you quickly realize that you don't have much reason to leave and venture off.

APARTMENT: Fun and quirky layout, not too big (as expected in Manhattan) and very very cute. We were three guests from Sweden (me, my girlfriend and our mutual friend) and we really felt at home. It was a sheer pleasure just hanging out in the apartment. The kitchen was well-stocked with the essentials in the fridge, spices & seasonings and enough utensils to do some serious cooking - which we didn't. The apartment was very clean and very well maintained. Internet was flawless and we had confusingly many TV channels.

HOSTS: As written above, just wonderful. Absolutely absolutely wonderful. Throughout our 10 days stay we were in steady contact. Upon arriving we got lots of recommendations of things to do, and whenever we had a question or problem, the response was near-immediate. It's very obvious that the hosts really cared about us and that our stay would be as memorable as possible.

The three of us wish to thank the hosts for making this stay a memory for life!

Owner's Response: All the stars were in line for this dynamic Trio’s visit.
Carl, Tricia & David
Here was a formula for success.
As it so happened from the beginning of communications they requested very politely and perfectly reasonable excuse to have a Skype conversation to assure them we were real.
50 5 star reviews and none speaking anything bad - WAY too good to be true!
We talked to Carl next to his lovely Long Island best friend - for us the conversation assured us that we were dealing with young minds that were very wise and responsible they are and yet incredibly spontaneous. What a delight and privilege to be able to provide a home for guests of such caliber.
The circle of our intent has been closed to find people deserving of happiness and good karma through the peaceful place we created for our guests.
The great high spirit that they left behind is a great sensation.
In life all it is a matter of exchange.

Their visit went very smoothly and very eventful:
World Cup gave NYC a special glow
This summer it was fairly mild.
And in the end:
- NYC did its magic on all three of them
- I sense that Carl, someday, very soon will find his way back and have his own place in the BIG APPLE

The best value accommodation in New York

  • 5 of 5
Not only the best value but also the best hosts in the City too. We looked at all the reviews before booking here and what a good decision that turned out to be. The location is perfect for tourists but still you feel part of the fabric of Manhatten. We were met on arrival tired after travel and we had the fridge full of everything we needed for the nex day or two. Plus some beer as well!! Then when one of our bags was off loaded our host not only had it delivered to his place but also delivered it to us at 11.30pm at night. We cannot hesitate in saying that this whole experience is quite amazing. What a great host and everything written about the spotless and homely accommodation is correct, absolutely perfect for a stay in this wonderful city.We will always remember New York and our experience staying in here in East Village. Must mention the great restaurant too just on the left of the main door.It is superb food and engaging staff.Thank you for hosting us in your apartment.

Owner's Response: This New Zealander couple was not an exception to the great experiences we have had so far with their country fellows.
New Zealander are as a general rule: - very appreciative of our efforts to make their stay in our property the best possible. Polite and over all great guests.
As they said on their review - their luggage got lost before landing NYC.
So it was only fitting that we offer to be on call to receive the lost bag in our home and later on to hand deliver it when they came home.
As host this fact was no trouble at all but for someone who is vacationing to lose half a day waiting for lost luggage would matter. This is a very important rule of good hosting - to try to be of service to guest in so doing allow our guest free time to enjoy the good thing NYC has to offer.
They will be certainly welcome back anytime they wish.

Great EV apartment and great hosts!

  • 5 of 5
My brother and I stayed at this apartment for a total of 9 days and had a flawless experience. The place was very clean and even had several supplies such as bathroom toiletries, kitchen appliances, food, etc. The host greeted us at the apt with food and cold beer! It was a nice touch knowing the long trip we had just had, along with the hot, humid weather we had to deal with! Our host also brought a very fun and positive energy to our trip. The apt is nestled in a very happening area of east village and has a long opening hallway allowing it to be very quiet in a loud city. Right around the corner are several quick pizzerias, bars, restaurants, etc. You will not be bored in this area. Our host gave us many helpful ideas about how to experience the city. The apt is also a short 8-10 min walk away from the L line subway bringing you to west manhattan or Brooklyn and everything in between that. It was a very convenient location for most of what we wanted to do in manhattan! I recommend going to El Camion Cantina for brunch and breakfast after long nights in the city on Ave A, very close to the apt. I also recommend hitting up Beauty & Essex for a more upscale and luxurious dinner. I would definitely recommend this apt and host for a trip to manhattan.

Owner's Response: Every guest has their own and peculiar NYC story to take home.
These guests were no exception.
Kathleen, the mother, was the wise parent that succeeded to close a very good deal for her two kids to vacation in NYC.
At the check-in the older son - Fred - came in the apt rather flustered and really upset .
His words:
- In less than 10 minutes after getting my luggage I was yelled at twice and literally thrown out of a yellow cab.
Sometimes NYC it is a rude awakening!
Josephine, on the other hand was unfazed by the mishap - a soft-spoken, good nature and beautiful young lady came in ready for a beer.
Apt was delivered and I rushed off to allow time & NYC to show the other face and to do its magic.
10 days later during check-out, we were so pleased to see Fred laughing about the ordeal he faced upon arrival.
Fred & Josephine were sent off with precise instructions to cross the Williamsburg Bridge to go the the airport.
Instructions that originally got Fred screamed at. You see cabbies are no keen to receive precise instruction in NYC.
I certainly hope that they appreciated the cab ride and the NYC magnificent skyline view.
As they say:
All is well when it ends well.
These guests will be welcome back anytime.
And now Fred knows what to do when one gets yelled at in NYC :

Truly best of everything: clean + quiet +comfortable + great location + amazing hosts

My 17 yr old son and I just returned from a week at the newest addition to our Host's rental units, a lovely, quiet and very comfortable 1st floor unit on E4th St in the East Village. Everything about my interactions before, during and since renting from this wonderful couple has been amazing. They are truly passionate about their holiday units and to offering their guests a wonderful experience in every way. This couple goes above and beyond to ensure every guest is happy. I have rented many, many times throughout the world and 'these Hosts are, without a doubt, the most conscientious owners I've ever met.The unit we stayed in so very clean, comfortable and well equipped that it hardly mattered its NYC size. The apartment is so cute we named it the "RABBIT Hole". The unit is great and offers everything you could want including 2 flat screen tvs, hi-speed internet, full kitchen and even an espresso maker! Plus there are no stairs to trudge up. The beds are super comfortable and the unit is quiet at night - a rarity for NYC! The apartment is close to everything - Union Market, Whole Foods plus local groceries, the sSubway (F-line is a 10 min walk), your choice of restaurants, NYU, plus Washington Square and Tompkins Square Parks. Staying in the East Village you really do get to "live like a local". I will definitely rent through this wonderful couple next time I'm in NYC!

Owner's Response: There are no words for us to describe how much appreciation we have for your kind words.

It was indeed a pleasure having you both in our apt and to receive such an amazing review is our best reward.

Parents like you, with the idea to provide their kids with the chance to visit NYC, to experience and explore the grounds of NYU could turned out to be pivotal for their future as well as to be your peace of mind.

NYC is such a fertile place for great talents and we only hope that your son has found here the inspiration and source of energy he will need to blossom and develop his full potential.

Best wishes for you both on all future endeavors.

Two Bedroom Apartment - Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed in this apartment on SuperB Bowl weekend this year. This apartment was in walking distance of the trains and walking distance of many restaurants and shops. I found this apartment to be perfect for my wife and I and considered it a great home base for our travels throughout the city. The pub that was next door was perfect for us to watch the "Big Game" at and made us Southerners feel very welcome. I would strongly recommend this apartment to anyone who is looking for a comfortable and relaxing place to call home while you are in New York City. I look forward to coming and staying again!

Owner's Response: We have been in this Vacation Rental business for a long time and yet this is the first time some guest mentions the fact that the East Village has many bars ideally made for the sports fan.
Tully was a very easy going traveler and a great guest.
From the beginning our first contact he was very direct and in just few e-mails later we reached a quick agreement.
It feels wonderful to realize the best policy for a successful business still holds truth - deliver what is promised.
The rest will follow.
Tully you are welcome back anytime.
Thanks for your review.

Must rent

My girlfriend lives in Puerto Rico and I've taken her to New York before, but I wanted to give her the feeling of how life is like living in the greatest city of the world. So I did some homework and looked for a place in the area of the city we enjoyed the most the east village. Never imagined I would strike gold like I did when I rented this property for a couple of days in January. The location is superb and perfectly located walking distance away from great bars, restaurants, shopping areas, the Williamsburg bridge, public tranportstion, and much more. The apartment is just what you need to unwind and spend some alone time after being around 2 million people in the city. The interior decor of the apartment makes you feel like its home and not a place you're occupying for the weekend. Big windows that give you the perfect amount of sunlight in the day, but roll down the curtains and get all the privacy and quiet you need to forget you're in the city that never sleeps. Last but not least the host is one of the greatest persons I've met. Great professional about business, but at the same time easy to talk to and overall feel like I've made a new friend. The host was very informative about the area and always accessible and catered to my every need. More importantly like I said earlier, super friendly and can't wait to rent from the best host again. My girlfriend loves the place and calls it "our apartment" in the city that we will occupy again. So if your visiting the city for the first time or even if your a native New Yorker like I am and we are not renting the place this apartment is a must rent.

Owner's Response: Jose & his lovely friend were a wonderful pleasure to host.
Their appreciation of our place and the effort to make it as welcome as possible is something we hold at high standard in the way we conduct our business.
Both of them were very polite and I am sure their future holds very nice surprises for them.
They will be welcome anytime they wish to visit us.
Thank you so much for such a great review.
