We visited Stef Surf with our 3 children ages 15,10 and 2. The house had absolutely everything we needed to fully enjoy our stay at the beach. Our kids loved the refreshing pool, and walking to the beach. The property is beautiful and lovingly cared for. We rented bikes to cruise town, and visit nearby beaches. Greg and Gladys are wonderful hosts. We truly felt like a part of the local community thanks to their enthusiasm and warmth and all the insider tips. Highlights included the swim up bar at Bahia del Sol, playa Penca, Las Brisas, karaoke at Max's, a trip to Rincon de la Vieja with Jaime and the pizza party at Stef Surf. Truly a wonderful place!

We stayed in El Delfin at Stef Surf with our two kids (11 & 14) along with friends (who stayed in a separate unit at the same complex). Stef Surf is wonderful! The units are more than what you need for a comfortable stay, the pool and surrounding lanscaping is beautiful, the location is ideal (with many beaches and restaurants nearby) and Greg & Gladys are great hosts. We felt like we had personal vacation consultants onsite to provide recommendations as to where to go, what to see, where to eat, etc. We couldn't have asked for a better trip! On top of that, the staff at Stef Surf are super nice people. Francisco and Marling were an added bonus that we had not expected. We highly recommend staying there and hope to come back soon!
My husband and I weren't planning on going on vacation this winter but the cold weather finally got to us and we started shopping around.
A friend of mine recommended Stef Surf and once we saw the pictures we wanted in.
The condo's are fantastic and each have their own theme. We stayed in El Pelicano which like the others has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with full kitchen. Each bedroom has their own balcony which we used every morning for coffee and breakfast. Leave the screen doors open in the bedrooms at night and get a great cross breeze - no need for AC while sleeping and you get to hear the ocean all night.
As great as the condo and balconies were we found ourselves sitting pool side enjoying a swim, Gin and Tonic and some great conversation with Greg and Gladys.
The pool and surrounding gardens are beautiful. The gardens are so lush and something is always in bloom. The gardens also lend themselves to providing privacy between units and the pool. If Greg or Gladys are there ask for a tour of the different plants.
Once we were booked in at the Stef Surf we started looking into a car rental and were pleasantly surprised to find that the roads are in great shape between Liberia and Surf Side (community where Stef Surf is located). The roads are all newly paved with the exception of the short laneway to the condo which is a gravel road and in good shape. We were happy to have a small sedan to travel around with the only hiccup being when the cattlemen ran their cows across the road.
The condo itself is only a block away from the sandy beach with great swimming. Its also central to lots of great places to eat and site see.
Take a drive to Hotel Sugar Beach to access their shore line but to also enjoy a meal and a few pina coladas or walk up the beach from Stef Surf to Las Brisas for their ceviche. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals at Perlas Bar which you can walk to or drive to from the condo. If visiting try the Tuna Poke and blackened tuna.
Please visit Playa Flamingo and stop in at Coco Loco Restaurant just before sunset. Its amazing to watch the sun disappear behind the ocean.
If you want to cook your meals there is a great fruit and veggie stand about 8 minutes from the condo by drive with a huge selection. The limes were huge and had so much juice but the pine apple was the best. There are a few grocery stores nearby which have all the essentials so you definitely won't starve. We also tried some mahi mahi on the units BBQ. Frank delivered right to
Stef Surf's location could not be more fitting for those looking for a community atmosphere and a low-key vacation. Greg and Gladys went beyond our expectations in helping set up tours and finding restaurants. While we stayed pretty busy and on the go, Stef Surf also offers a secret oasis for those wishing to just relax and enjoy the Costa Rican sun. Lovely place!

After a long summer season in the Canadian North, my husband Alan and I decided to take advice from good friends in the Yukon and escape the winter by heading to Costa Rica. We found Stef Surf online and immediately set up a conversation with Greg Myers. Greg was very easy to communicate with and was gracious when we explained that plans for an idyllic holiday for two had turned into a full blown family holiday with three generations from three different countries. Dates were happily changed and Greg ensured that we would have everything that a family of five would require.
Entering Stef Surf is like entering a secluded tropical paradise. Francisco the grounds man, met us at the gate and helped us carry our bags into an exotic garden bordering a secluded swimming pool; the centre piece of this beautifully architected haven. Stef Surf is so well designed that each of the four apartments are uniquely different and secluded. Once we had entered into our own gated courtyard surrounded by palm trees the outside world disappeared, although we were only two minutes’ walk away from Portrero Beach and another five to a well-stocked store
Our apartment was beautifully designed with outlooks to the pool, a well equipped kitchen, large living room, two spacious bedrooms and a covered deck which the granddaughter delighted in sleeping on.
Prior to our arrival Greg had sent us an extensive documentation listing all the highlights of the area, the beaches, the best restaurants and the experiences that shouldn't be missed. This certainly enriched our holiday
We are a young couple with a bit of travel experience (only all inclusives) that travelled with two other friends to stef surf. We were a bit nervous had never rented a condo before but Greg and Gladys were absolutely amazing!! They were very knowledgable of the area of where to go and what to do. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed and wanted. The grounds around the pool and house were incredible! We truly felt like we were in paradise. I highly suggest renting Hymay, the tour guide that Greg and Gladys have contact with. He knows everything and everyone in Costa Rica, which made the tours way better than with a tour company. The food and drinks were to die for and all bars and restaurants were walking distance from the house. We will definitely be going to rent the house again in the near future!!
Besides the fact that there aren't many worth the money this side of Costa Rica, the villas at stef surf offer a private oasis that you could never get at an all inclusive. All 4 units were occupied (coincidentally by all Canadians) while we were staying in the Pelicano suite and the neighbours were great but it still felt quiet and private with the plush garden that Francisco diligently maintains. Greg and Gladys (one of the owners) were there and were great guides for restaurants and excursions.
We didn't rent a car but found the transportation fairly good. I think we spent about $170 in transportation the whole week and saw many places. It was $70 return trip to tamarindo beach which was great for shopping and souvenirs, but not for much else... A little too crowded and "spring break" for our taste.
We walked mostly everywhere... Typically on the beach. Playa Potrero is a 3 minute walk down the road from Stef Surf and we almost always had it to ourselves :) but of course there are about 3 or 4 beach resorts/restaurants that you can eat at and use there chairs/facilities on the beach.
We walked about 40 mins to Playa Flamingo along the beach and over the bridge. Made a great day of it and ate at coco locos (awesome food and service on the beach).
I think kids would like Stef Surf too. Great pool on premises and a beach for sand castles near by. We recommend Point Break for surf lessons and the Panache catamaran snorkelling tour. Karaoke at Maxwells, band night at The Shack and great ceviche and pizza at Casa Celeste. Thanks Francisco, Marling, Greg and Gladys for being great hosts!
Four Homes Set amongst Lush Tropical Gardens Connected by a elevated Boardwalk. Our Beautiful home is located one block back from the ocean on Flamingo Bay Less than a minute walk to the beach in fact the crashing waves can be heard from the master bedroom. Many restaurants grocery stores and hotels are all with-in walking distance and yes terrific swimming, bogie boarding even surfing and snorkelling on the beach.
