CHESAPEAKE CHARM - FISHING, CRABBING, BOATING & CHILLIN'

Point Lookout House Rental Photos and Description

3 BR, 2 1/2 bath with Private Pier (Sleeps 6-9)

Imagine crabbing and fishing right off of your own pier, and watching the sunset on the creek every evening. This Cottage Living style home would make an excellent get-away weekend or a great summer retreat. Enjoy waterfront, country living in this 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home with pier; located along St. Jerome’s Creek on a 15-acre crop farm in Southern Maryland. St. Jerome’s Creek connects to the Chesapeake Bay, making it easy access for boaters – you can bring your boat and tie up to the pier (which has electric).

The house and area are “shore-side, country”; its location is premier for crabbing and fishing in the Chesapeake Bay. It is perfect for folks who enjoy fishing, crabbing, boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, wind-surfing, pedal boating, biking, wildlife/bird-watching, long walks, quiet sunsets, star gazing, peaceful sunrises, outdoor BBQs, relaxing in the sunshine, yard lounging, and/or simply chilling out.

This clean, comfortable, Shore themed home has a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, satellite TV, DVD/VCR, wood-burning fireplace, supplies for crabbing and fishing, a gas grill, and fire pit (just right for s’mores with the kids). Sleeping arrangements include: queen bed [master bedroom]; queen bed [bedroom 1]; 2 twin beds [bedroom 2]; queen sleep sofa and twin sleeper oversized chair [living room].

Autumn brings lots of options for fun including a county fair, wine festival, farm market, oyster festival, corn maze, ghost walk, Christmas village & lights, etc. Should you decide to wander about the area, you’ll find plenty of dining and shopping (including antiques) about 20 minutes away in Lexington Park, or a bit further (30 minutes) to Leonardtown. If history is your interest, Point Lookout State Park (a Civil War site) is also about 20 minutes south and hosts miles of protected land suitable for biking, jogging, beach walking or enjoying nature. St. Mary’s City, the original capital of Maryland (host of several fall events), and Sotterly Mansion (host of the Sotterly Plantation Winefest & other fall events) are also nearby. If you want a day trip, you may consider Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington DC or King’s Dominion!

This home is positioned so close to the Chesapeake Bay, that you won’t want to miss the opportunity to spend a day charter fishing or enjoying a late afternoon, sunset cruise – fall sunsets are FABULOUS! Let us know and we'll coordinate arrangements with Fish The Bay Charters, located just one farm over.

Geared for casual living, we're available to provide flexible arrangements to accommodate folks in town for weddings, graduations, fishing charters, or other events. It’s just right for the family vacation or that quick get-away to recharge your batteries.

Phil and Stephanie are locals - born and raised in Southern Maryland. Phil is a coast guard approved, licensed charter boat captain who has worked as a commercial waterman. He has spent many years fishing, crabbing and oystering on the Chesapeake Bay. Their appreciation of country living on the Chesapeake watershed has prompted them to extend the Chesapeake Country experience to their fishing clients and others. Captain Phil is eager to share his knowledge - from catching fish to cookin' crabs!

When the neighboring farm (Phil's parent's home) became available in 2010, the weekly rental idea stepped closer to reality! This property is a compilation of waterfront, pier, large yard, corn/bean fields, and a comfy - well appointed home -complete with beautiful sunsets and tranquil mornings - perfect for sipping coffee on the back porch.

It's a wonderful place to experience shore-side, country living for your next summer vacation; that special occasion, or holiday treat! It's just right for a get-away with the girls, a long fishing weekend for the guys, a week or two vacation with the family, a Christmas retreat - the possibilities are endless.

EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS.

  • 5 of 5
What a great long weekend. The house and property are maintained in great condition. The house has everything you need to feel at home. We were able to catch enough crabs for a couple good dinners. The kids had a great time hand-lining for crabs, kayaking, fishing, playing in the yard, etc. The end of the dock ended up being a great place to watch fireworks in every direction on the 4th. The garage was outfitted with a grill, some fishing tackle, a firepit, cornhole boards, and many other fun things to do. Phil and Stephanie obviously care about the guests' experience, and it really shows. We definitely plan to be back.

WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

  • 5 of 5
With all the critters this felt like a wildlife refuge - Osprey, Heron, a family of bluebirds in the birdhouse, deer, rabbits, plus all the aquatic creatures. The house is meticulously cared for and clean. Owners Phil and Stephanie went out of their way to make us welcome. She was very accommodating about the timing of our stay. I mentioned we were interested in crabbing and we arrived to baited traps already full of crabs! Stephanie has annotated the local activities section of the seasonal newspaper with her color on the events. We took advantage of the fun festival that occurred during our stay in nearby Leonardtown. Phil runs a fishing charter and while we didn't take advantage of that during our stay, there was ample evidence that those that did had a great time. We highly recommend staying here.

GREAT LOCATION, VERY QUIET AND TRANQUIL

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time. We stayed with another family with a couple of kids and everyone had a lot of fun. We caught about a dozen crabs and steamed them up. We played games in the dining room and enjoyed the sunset, and broke out the firepit for smores. On Saturday we went to Point Lookout park, and hit the mini-beach there. You do have to watch out for jellyfish, but that's life on the Chesapeake.

Our hosts were very accommodating, and I bet we'll be back someday!

THE GETAWAY WE ALL NEEDED

  • 5 of 5
You never know what you are in store for when you rent a place but I must tell you, you need not look any further. Not only is the property a great place but the owners couldn't be more accommodating. We arrived late on Thursday so were unable to really see what was lurking in the darkness but the next morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see this amazing property. This was a guys trip so we planned a trip with the owner, Capt Phil, to go fishing for half a day. If you like fishing, hook up with him for a great day out on the seas. He knows the in's and out's of the bay and where to get the fish.. The house has pretty much everything you could need from outdoor games, a dock with huge commercial type crab traps that we caught 30 HUGE crab off of, a very nice grill, comfortable accommodations. If it wasn't there like the crab hammers and knives, Steph (also the owner) made a special trip to bring them to us and to also teach us how to use them.. We spent late nights chatting on the back deck and crabbing on the big dock.. We saw a decent sized ray gliding through the shallows as well.. We will be back, that is for sure. Thank you Steph and Phil!

AWSOME!

  • 5 of 5
Awsome is the only word you can use to describe not only the accomodations but also the owners. This was a first time trip for me to do some fishing with Capt. Phil. My son's girlfriend's father was kind enough to invite me along to fish with "the best Capt'n on the bay" which he uses his services several times a summer. Upon arrival Capt. Phil personally unlocked the house and showed us around and explained everything. It was almost like you were staying at a best friend's or reletive's home! Talk about feeling at home, they most definitely feel that way. Some of the little extra touches were a small fishing basket on the kitchen counter that had a bag of in the shell peanuts, several packs of micro wave popcorn and packs of oodles of noodles. Also on the counter were two bags of premium ground coffee for the coffee maker, one regular and one decaf plus all the fixings. Last but not least were the several bottles of water in the refridgerator. You could arrive in the evening with nothing and survive comfortly until you were able to go buy supplies the next day!
The rooms in the house are exactly as pictured, appearing as if they were just prepared for a shoot for an upscale magazine.
Outside is a nice sized porch with chairs and rockers to enjoy the view of the dock and the river. Not far from the porch is the dock which has several benches on the end of it for sitting and enjoying a more close up view of the river. There is also several crap traps available for your use.
They seem to include a lot of extras that others charge for.
Even though we were unable to go fishing with the Capt. on Sat. due to the cold and windy conditions it was still an enjoyable trip due to the quality of the accommodations and the personalised attention of the owners.
We are already working on the logistics of returning in the next several weeks!
Would recommend this to anybody looking for a place to relax in a secluded, waterfront setting with a chance to go fishing with a grade A Capt. if he isn't already booked up
