Bonnie's grandparents homesteaded the ranch in 1908. It has remained in the family for over a hundred years and still operates as a cattle ranch. Bonnie and I returned to theBlack Hills from Denver in the late 90's and have decided that this is where we want to stay. We look forward to sharing this beautiful spot in the Hills and making new friends as we do so.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Secluded working ranch but centrally located and convenient to Custer State Park (1 mile) Mount Rushmore (15 miles), Crazy Horse (25 miles) Badlands (60 Miles) and many more popular destinations

GOOD LIFE ON THE RANCH!

  • 5 of 5
The ranch home of Dick and Bonnie was more than I expected. With 4 grandchildren and our daughters, the home was spacious and abundantly furnished, the kitchen well stocked (homemade rhubarb jam was delicious!), and the grounds open with old corals and barn to explore. The children loved roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. I particularly admired and enjoyed Bonnie's flower gardens in bloom. Returning home at the end of each day after exploring the Black Hills, it was amazing to enter the gate of the ranch, drive down the long road and come upon open views of the ranch, mountains, and the house. Bonnie and Dick were always helpful with any information we needed. We will always cherish our memories of staying on the ranch which was just at the entrance to Custer Park, so convenient for where we wanted to go. I highly recommend this house if visiting the Black Hills.

PERFECT VACATION SPOT!

  • 5 of 5
Dick and Bonnie's home is the perfect location for families wanting to experience the beauty of Custer State Park. The home is spacious, comfortable, and equipped with everything you will need for a relaxing vacation. Our family relied on Dick and Bonnie's advice for spotting wildlife and making sure we saw all of the important sites in The Black Hills. We couldn't have asked for more gracious and welcoming hosts. The location is perfect-only a mile from the entrance to Custer State Park. We enjoyed the privacy and seclusion of the cattle ranch (with some of the most beautiful Angus cows we've ever seen) while also being extremely close to the park. It was a perfect vacation spot for our family and we all agree that when we go back to the Black Hills, this is the only place we want to stay.

GREAT PLACE

  • 5 of 5
Dick and Bonnie do a great job and are very friendly hosts. We had an extended family gathering of 10 at their rental home for four days. The place was everything advertised and everyone had a wonderful time. The home is very spacious and is in a very pretty setting. It is right next door to Custer State Park and was great for side trips throughout the Black Hills. I think you will not be disappointed to rent this property, it is a great value for money!

WHAT A GREAT PLACE!

  • 5 of 5
Dick and Bonnie have an ideal location to hit the wonderful attractions in and around Custer. The ranch adjoins Custer State Park and when you leave the ranch the park is less than a minute away. Our group of five adults and one child found the accomodations perfect with plenty of room for all of us to relax and be comfortable, each in our own bedrooms.
For those who might be concerned about the "working cattle ranch" description, don't be. What you are looking at is a beautiful home quietly tucked in the middle of 3000 acres that happens to have some truly beautiful angus cattle in the large front yard. They arent pastured near the house, and you will only see them coming and going.
We used the ranch house to explore all the natural beauty of Custer State Park, and Dick and Bonnie were kind enough to share their local knowledge to assist our adventures. Bonnie's family has owned the ranch since the early 1900's and Dick is the former Superintendant of Custer State Park, so when they give you advice, follow it! They are truly wonderful hosts who go out of their way to make your stay a special experience. Our family enjoyed special treats and regular visits from Bonnie as well as trips around the ranch with Dick. They love the ranch and you will love sharing the ranch with them.
If you want a central location to enjoy all that Custer State Park has to offer, contact Dick and Bonnie....you won't be dissapointed.

Our family of four had a great experience at this beautiful home. We enjoyed the private ranch setting, the clean, spacious house, and the surrounding garden with flowers in bloom. Dick and Bonnie treated us like family and made us feel welcome.

PARADISE IN SOUTH DAKOTA

  • 5 of 5
This location was perfect for our family to do some sightseeing in South Dakota, or it would be a perfect location to just get away from it all and relax. The location is centrally located to Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Monument, Badlands National Park, Jewel Caves, Wind caves National Park, The Mammoth excavation site, Reptile Gardens, and many other sites in the area. Our family loved staying in this beautiful home with an amazing setting on a ranch, and we visited all of the attractions listed above with the exception of Wind Caves in the week we were there and loved all of them. There is a lot to see and do in this area of South Dakota! Every direction you look from the ranch home had a beautiful view. The pictures do not do it justice, everyone in the family kept making comments on just how beautiful it was on the ranch and the surrounding area. The owners (Dick and Bonnie) were great to work with and made us feel at home. They are very good people and are among the kindest and friendliest people you will find in this world. They were always available, or capable of being reached, whenever a question came up. They know the surroundings areas in South Dakota well and were able to give us a lot of tips regarding our day trips and things to see and do. The home was perfect for us, we had 5 adults and three young children under the age of 6 in our group and the kids loved the home and large open spaces both inside and outside where they could play. We also took our bikes and did some bike rides around the valley where the ranch is located. The ranch is huge, so we rode our bikes around the ranch and surrounding areas without running into other people or having to worry about cars or traffic. Again, the setting and views are spectacular. We would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area in South Dakota. If/when we go back to South Dakota, we would look to stay here first before looking elsewhere.
