About Ed Grosswiler

Retired after a 30-year career running a public affairs consulting firm and, prior to that, a corporate government affairs director. This followed 20 years as a AP reporter, Congressional aide and director of an environmental organization.

Sammye, a native Oregonian, has been a banker and is now a Realtor, covering the metropolitan area. We each have two grown children - hers are boys and mine are girls.

With the benefit of more time, I exercise and bicycle for health and pleasure, allowing my waist line to frequently partake of many of Portland's fine dining restaurants. Traveling extensively is more pleasurable than the days of client-driven trips at the drop of a corporate notion. The challenge is getting Sammye away from her clients, but we are working on that.

With the exception of eight years in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, I've spent the past 53 years living in Portland and enjoying the great Pacific Northwest.

Ed Grosswiler purchased this apartment in 1987

Why Ed Grosswiler chose Portland

I lived in the main floor unit of this 4-plex for 23 years, having purchased the building for its location - central to two of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods and within walking distance of all of downtown with the rest of the city easily accessible by bicycle. The airport is a quick 20 minutes by car, slightly longer by light rail.

The neighbors in the house are eclectic, friendly and respectful of privacy. The top floor neighbor has lived here longer than I did.

What makes this apartment unique

Great Everything!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic apartment. You cannot go wrong with the location (21st and 23rd streets are minutes away and full of great restaurants and shops). You can walk to Forest Park and Washington Park from the apartment (we visited both) and Pearl District is 10 minutes away. The neighborhood is precious and we wandered around checking out the old Victorian houses. We visited Portland with our two kids, ages 14 and 11 and we all loved this rental. Ed does a great job orienting you with the neighborhood and the apartment has everything you'll need. Highly recommend this apartment.

Wonderful home

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for two couples to stay. We walked to all the local restaurants, downtown area, Pearl District and the waterfront. The home was very warm, clean and inviting, the beds were comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed. The grocery stores were close by, too. The owner, Ed, made us feel welcome. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Portland.

Awesome home, great neighborhood, close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay in this beautifully rehabbed Victorian home! Located in Nob Hill walking distance to everything and next to The Pearl. Unlike many VRBO rentals or AirBnb's, this home didn't post "house rules" everywhere! But, you always wanted to be respectful of the surroundings. Would not hesitate to return. The owner was a super host!

Excellent place to stay

  • 5 of 5

I loved both the apartment, which, after my 6 week stay, really started to feel like home, and the owner, who was very sweet and helpful. I definitely recommend this property.

Portland at its Best!

  • 5 of 5

When we travel, we like to pick neighborhoods, to become a part of. This house is just that. It is totally indicative of the neighborhood. We walked the streets looking at all the great houses and old apartment buildings. Portland has done well retaining its Past. This house is perfect in every way. Great landlord, who is at your bec and call. We really didn't need anything, because the house was well fitted and wonderfully cozy in very cold weather. It's just like going to stay with a long time friend. We shall return.
