Retired after a 30-year career running a public affairs consulting firm and, prior to that, a corporate government affairs director. This followed 20 years as a AP reporter, Congressional aide and director of an environmental organization.

Sammye, a native Oregonian, has been a banker and is now a Realtor, covering the metropolitan area. We each have two grown children - hers are boys and mine are girls.

With the benefit of more time, I exercise and bicycle for health and pleasure, allowing my waist line to frequently partake of many of Portland's fine dining restaurants. Traveling extensively is more pleasurable than the days of client-driven trips at the drop of a corporate notion. The challenge is getting Sammye away from her clients, but we are working on that.

With the exception of eight years in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, I've spent the past 53 years living in Portland and enjoying the great Pacific Northwest.

Ed Grosswiler purchased this apartment in 1987

I lived in the main floor unit of this 4-plex for 23 years, having purchased the building for its location - central to two of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods and within walking distance of all of downtown with the rest of the city easily accessible by bicycle. The airport is a quick 20 minutes by car, slightly longer by light rail.

The neighbors in the house are eclectic, friendly and respectful of privacy. The top floor neighbor has lived here longer than I did.

Surrounded by local boutique shops and the full range of dining - fine food, ethnic, food carts. Caffe Mingo is the city's best Italian restaurant. This apartment is at least as beautiful and as large as one imagines from the photos. It is very clean, spacious, tastefully decorated and very well-equipped. The owner has provided many helpful recommendations for great restaurants and shops, all within very easy walking distance. In fact, the location couldn't be better. We will be back for sure.

Great Place to Stay!!

Our family of 4 was looking for a comfortable place to spend Christmas where we could cook and bake together and explore Portland. We got all that and more. This apartment is comfortable, beautiful, quiet and in a great location! We could easily walk to everything we needed or wanted to explore: groceries, restaurants, unique shops, downtown, Forest Park, Washington Park, ....Even the aerial tram at the south end of Portland is within walking distance although it is also simple to hop on the trolley or bus and ride. Our host had coffee and creamer at hand plus a decorated Christmas tree waiting for presents underneath and cut flowers in a vase on the kitchen counter. His recommendations for local highlights were outstanding and he was available and answered all our questions. We also appreciated the maps, local highlight pamphlets, and WiFi. Great place to stay! Will come again.

I cannot recommend this property enough! The apartment is so very comfortable and the neighborhood has got to be one of the best in Portland. Though it was winter - chilly and rainy - we were cozy in the apartment and thoroughly enjoyed exploring all of the gourmet markets, restaurants and shops within walking distance. Additionally, we explored up the hill from the house and found our way to Forest Park for a truly special hike in the woods. Ed had attended to all of the details that make you feel welcome. This truly was one of the best VRBO experiences that we have had and we have stayed at many.

Unfortunately, current technology is unable to bring 3-dimensional views of this place. You see the pictures, but they absolutely do not do justice to how beautiful this vacation rental is. We were amazed that they even had orchids and plants throughout. The owner was more than accommodating providing us with information and additional books on the area. We hope that when we go back to Portland, we can stay here again. We really loved it.

We visited Portland for a week with our 2-year old son and this rental made our trip so much easier. So convenient to have a parking spot, a full kitchen and centrally located. Our son loved the trolley, which we took many many times. Walking distance to many restaurants and shops (and Trader Joe's) and the Pearl. Ed was so easy to deal with and was super responsive before, during and after our stay.
