Lake Algonquin - Wells Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Luxury inside, Rugged Adirondacks Outside. 3 bedrooms, 3 baths

1800's renovated Farmhouse with Stunning Views overlooking Lake Algonquin and Adirondack Mountains. Kept in immaculate condition. Sleeps up to 6 in spring, but in summer we rent to only to 4 persons max.

This is a great area to find some peace and quiet, and the perfect home for those who are particular. Great for adventurers and couch potatoes alike! Year round rugged Adirondack enjoyment can be found outside, while luxury, beautiful lake and mountain views with modern comforts can be found inside.

This is one of the oldest homes in Wells. Enjoy a mix of modern amenities, antique furnishings, 100 year old wood floors and stunning views. We supply 2 kayaks with life preservers, 2 nice bikes and lake floats.

Master bedroom has cathedral ceilings, queen bed with private bath and great lake views. Two guest bedrooms have one double bed each and use of 1/2 bath upstairs, another full bath downstairs.

Downstairs is open floor plan with gorgeous views, propane fireplace, 2 sitting rooms, dining area, chefs kitchen with double farmhouse sink and a porch. Dishwasher, micro, washer/dryer, Internet, phone, Weber grill, 40' flatscreen with Netflix (no cable though - we come here to get away from the news!) outdoor table and fire pit.

We are across the street from beautiful Lake Algonquin. Our views alone are worth the visit!

Our favorite activities include the 3 mile walks around the lake, hikes to many nearby waterfalls, swimming and kayaking out front on the lake. The large front lawn is a great spot to relax and enjoy the lake view while barbequing, and evenings can be spent out by the bonfire. Public fishing dock out front. Swimming is easy access, but It is a bit rocky, bring water shoes, or public sand beach is one mile away. Can launch kayaks out front.

The house is kept in as close to perfect condition as we can manage. We remove shoes prior to going inside - and prefer our guests do as well. However, we know this is asking a lot, so please be mindful of bringing dirt, snow and mud onto our antique wood floors...

Kitchen - our favorite room! Beautiful lake views, room for multiple cooks, open to the sitting area, fireplace and dining table, so the cook can converse with everyone else. Double farmhouse sink, 5 burner gas stove, expansive wood counter space. Very nice pots, pans, dishes, glassware.

We do go out of our way to supply amenities that we feel will make our guests stay a little easier and nicer, things that are not normally found in a rental - binoculars, table cloths, iron and board, boats, bikes, paper towels, tin foil, plastic wrap, napkins, sugar, spices, condiments - lots of little things you would find at home but may not think of bringing while traveling on vacation.

In order to keep this 200 year old Farmhouse in it's current immaculate condition, and it's plumbing in working condition, we have a 4 person max in summer per stay. We do not rent for parties or family reunions, sorry! This is a great house for couples or small family getaways, but not appropriate if you are planning to entertain.

The yard out front is where we spend our time, relaxing on the large grass lawn which is elevated by a stone wall, overlooking the lake and mountains beyond. There is a local road between us and the lake, but we are above it and it is somewhat obscured. We have four Adirondack chairs for lounging and enjoying the view. Large picnic table, fire pit and large Weber grill provided.

This is lake country so drives to the different lakes can be fun. Great antiquing and white water rafting up this way.

FALL FOLIAGE is AMAZING here! This house has unobstructed views of color filled mountains, doubled by the reflection of these mountains on the lake, really is a sight to see!

WINTER: Hike, snowshoe, snowmobile, x country or downhill ski, antique, read, write, paint or just sit and enjoy the views across the lake in a small town setting. Winter can be magical up here after a fresh snowfall. We snowshoe (2 sets provided), snowmobile, ski Gore or Oak Mountain, cross country ski out front across the lake or at famous Lapland Lake resort. Garnet Hill near Gore also popular for x country. Some Sundays there are very exciting car races on the lake, great fun to watch from the comfort of the sofa!

Speculator (next town over) rents snowmobiles, you can sled from here to Canada on wide expanse of groomed trails - this is amazing snowmobile country. Guided tours available for those trying it for the first time. Give it a shot - experiencing the Adirondack woods in winter, gliding over lakes, stopping in at different Pubs for a pint and a stew can be great fun. Highly recommended.

We love to slap on snowshoes and explore the woods nearby. Lots of deer, turkey in winter. Simply sitting inside and watching the snowfall surround us is another favorite activity....

More About the Farmhouse: This is one of the oldest homes in town - was a working farm for 100+ years. Fully renovated 2010. Sits on elevated 3/4 acre overlooking Lake Algonquin. Truly gorgeous view.

Porch - there is a large porch on the backside of house. Can read out there or store your skiis and toys. There is a sitting area to remove and store shoes so if you would like to be shoe free in house, as we are, it is convenient.

No smoking, candles or pets here, this is an allergy sensitive home.

About Maura

Maura is a lifelong Adirondacker, her family has been vacationing in Wells for 4 generations. David and Maura spend lots of time here in all seasons, and have 3 lakeside renovated homes, all available for weekly rental.

Maura purchased this farmhouse in 2009

Why Maura chose Lake Algonquin - Wells

Stunning Views, Luxury Inside, Rugged Adirondacks Outside

What makes this farmhouse unique

We love the fact that this house used to look like the scariest one in town....but we always thought it must have one of the best views...and we were right! Since we gut renovated in 2010, it now has all the comforts of a modern luxury year round home combined with 100 yr old reclaimed floors with antique furnishings and features...and was redesigned to best capture those views! Amenities include kayaks, canoe, bikes, large Weber Grill, Firepit, large picnic table. Fishing pier across the street. Wireless Internet, 40' flat screen, iPod Player, Chefs Kitchen with killer views while cooking! Great master queen bedroom with views as well.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks so much for sharing your lovely Farmhouse. We cooked up a storm in the great kitchen next to the fire. Some much desired snowfall came along so we snowshoed up Mt. Sawyer to some awesome views. Thanks for providing them!

We would love to come back to see the area in different seasons.

Gorgeous house, beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely house that has been lovingly restored and renovated to a high standard. It had all the mod cons and three beautiful bedrooms with quality linens and plenty of storage space. The owners really have thoughts of everything to make your stay comfortable. The views from the front rooms looking over the lake were absolutely stunning and we had a very restful stay. The area is quiet and it was great to have the bikes to ride around the town. It was a good base for exploring the surrounding mountains and the house would be a delight to stay in at any time of the year.

Cozy winter perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our weekend at the farmhouse was idyllic and perfect. The house is beautiful, exquisitely decorated, spotless, and perfectly functional. Everything was clearly labeled, in perfect working order, and was of the upmost quality. We relaxed all weekend long by reading by fire, cooking delicious meals, cozying up to watch movies, walking around the lake, and just enjoying the beautiful snowy winter view. Maura was prompt, clear, and courteous in all of our correspondence. It felt like we were visiting a gracious friend's home--nothing about it felt like a rental property. We would definitely like to come back again and experience different seasons in this charming and peaceful setting.

This beautiful old farmhouse was my absolute favorite vacation rental ever! It was quiet and serene, the perfect spot to relax and unwind for the week. The house has been beautifully restored, it felt like we were staying in a friend's home rather than a cold hotel room or outdated rental. I look forward to returning next summer!

Enjoyed our stay

  • 4 of 5

We're from Virginia and perhaps the best part of our stay was the cool nights (in the 50's) and the chance to sleep with the windows open in August like it was October. Waking up in the master bedroom to a beautiful and peaceful view of the lake is priceless. The only surprise (which can be a plus or minus depending on your perspective) is that the house is not as "remote" as you might assume from the photos. There are close neighbors on both sides of the house and the lake itself has very little undeveloped waterfront property. If you love to hike, this is your place. Every mile or so in both directions offer signs with trails to remote ponds and smaller lakes. We took day trips to Saratoga (for the horse races- 1 hour), Cooperstown (1 hour 45 minutes) and Lake George (less than 1 hour). There is a very cool used bookstore nearby where we stocked up on reading material. Nice relaxing stay-

One of the best house we've ever rented. The house is extremely neat, with every single detail carefully though through. Everything about the house is as described. The owners are very responsive and pleasant. Highly recommend.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

David and Maura's house is in a beautiful quiet spot. We arrived quite late at night and woke to a very snowy day, spending that day walking through the woods in the snow. The house is lovely - it's spacious, well maintained, warm, everything works and it is very clean. We felt very comfortable in the house and it was a pleasure to be there. We had great fun X country skiing at Lapland nearby, which is a fantastic venue. We also spent some time in the snow at both Gore and Oak Mountains - we were lucky with lots of snow and nice weather. We are sure that the house would be lovely to stay in during the summer and imagine that the area is would not be quite as busy as some other areas. David and Maura were very easy to deal with and we would heartily recommend their house to those who appreciate a lovely place to holiday.
