1800's renovated Farmhouse with truly Stunning Views overlooking Lake Algonquin and Adirondack Mountains. Sleeps up to 4, but perfect for a romantic getaway for one couple.
This is a great area to find some peace and quiet, and the perfect home for those who are particular. Great for both adventurers and couch potatoes alike! Year round rugged Adirondack enjoyment can be found outside, while luxury, beautiful views and modern comforts can be found inside.
Our favorite activities include 3 mile walks around the lake, hikes to the many nearby waterfalls, swimming, kayaking or x country skiing out front on the lake. The large front lawn is a great spot to relax and enjoy the lake view while barbequing, and evenings are enjoyed out by the bonfire.
This is one of the oldest homes in Wells. Renovated 2010. Enjoy a mix of modern amenities, antiques and reclaimed wood floors. Two bedrooms with queen beds, third bedroom has a double bed. Yes it's 3 bedroom, but no more than 4 persons per rental, sorry!
There are 2.5 baths. Master bedroom has queen bed, private bath, cathedral ceiling, gorgeous oak floors and great lake views.
Downstairs is open floor plan with gorgeous views, propane fireplace, 2 sitting rooms, dining area, chefs kitchen with double farmhouse sink, porch. Dishwasher, micro, washer/dryer, Internet, phone, Weber grill, 40' flatscreen with Netflix (no cable though - we come here to get away from the news!) outdoor table and fire pit.
We are across the street from beautiful Lake Algonquin. Our views are worth the visit!
Fishing dock and swimming out front. It is a bit rocky, bring water shoes, or public sand beach is one mile away. Can launch kayaks and canoe right out front.
The house is kept in immaculate condition. We remove shoes prior to going inside - and prefer our guests do as well. However, we know this is asking a lot, so please be mindful of bringing dirt, snow and mud onto our antique wood floors...
Kitchen - our favorite room! Beautiful lake views, room for multiple cooks, open to the sitting area, fireplace and dining table, so the cook can converse with everyone else. Double farmhouse sink, 5 burner gas stove, expansive wood counter space. Nice pots, pans, dishes, glassware.
We do go out of our way to supply amenities that we know guests will enjoy and make their stay a little easier, things that are not normally found in a rental - binoculars, table cloths, iron and board, boats, bikes, paper towels, tin foil, plastic wrap, napkins, sugar, spices, condiments - lots of little things you would find at home but may not think of bringing while traveling on vacation.
In order to keep this 200 year old Farmhouse in it's current immaculate condition, and it's plumbing in working condition, we have a 4 person max per stay. We do not rent for parties or family reunions, sorry! This is a great house for couples or small family getaways, but not appropriate if you are planning to entertain.
Yard - out front is where we spend our time, relaxing on the large flat grass lawn which is elevated by a stone wall, overlooking the lake and mountains beyond. There is a local road between us and the lake, but we are above it and it is somewhat obscured. We have four Adirondack chairs for lounging and enjoying the view. Large picnic table, fire pit and large Weber grill provided.
This is lake country so drives to the different lakes can be fun. Great antiquing and white water rafting up this way.
FALL is AMAZING in the Adirondacks! This house has unobstructed views of color filled mountains, doubled by the reflection on the lake, really is a sight to see!
WINTER: Hike, bike, snowshoe, snowmobile, ski, antique, read, write, paint or just sit and enjoy the views across the lake in a small town setting. Winter can be magical up here after a fresh snowfall. We snowshoe (2 sets provided), snowmobile, ski Gore or Oak Mountain, cross country ski out front across the lake or at famous Lapland Lake resort. Garnet Hill near Gore also popular for x country. Some Sundays there are very exciting car races on the lake, great fun to watch from the comfort of the sofa!
Speculator (next town over) rents snowmobiles, you can sled from here to Canada on wide expanse of groomed trails - this is amazing snowmobile country. Guided tours available for those trying it for the first time. Give it a shot - experiencing the Adirondack woods in winter, gliding over lakes, stopping in at different Pubs for a pint and a stew can be great fun. Highly recommended.
We love to slap on snowshoes and explore the woods nearby. Lots of deer, turkey in winter. Simply sitting inside and watching the snowfall surround us is another favorite activity....
More About the Farmhouse: This is one of the oldest homes in town - was a working farm for 100+ years. Sits on elevated 3/4 acre overlooking Lake Algonquin. Truly gorgeous view.
Porch - there is a large porch on the backside of house. Can read out there or store your skiis and toys. There is a sitting area to remove and store shoes so if you would like to be shoe free in house, as we are, it is convenient.
No smoking or pets here, this is an allergy sensitive home.
Thanks so much for sharing your lovely Farmhouse. We cooked up a storm in the great kitchen next to the fire. Some much desired snowfall came along so we snowshoed up Mt. Sawyer to some awesome views. Thanks for providing them!
We would love to come back to see the area in different seasons.
Maura is a lifelong Adirondacker, her family has been vacationing in Wells for 4 generations. David and Maura spend lots of time here in all seasons, and have 3 lakeside renovated homes, all available for weekly rental.
Stunning Views, Luxury Inside, Rugged Adirondacks Outside
We Love the fact that this house used to be the scariest one in town....but we always thought it also had the best views! We were right...and since we gut renovated in 2010, it now has all the comforts of a modern luxury year round home combined with 100 yr old reclaimed floors with antique furnishings and features...and was redesigned to best capture those views! Amenities include kayaks, canoe, bikes, large Weber Grill, Firepit, large picnic table. Fishing pier across the street. Wireless Internet, 40' flat screen, iPod Player, Chefs Kitchen with killer views while cooking! Great master bedroom with views as well.
Wells is a sleepy, scenic town in the southern Adirondacks. Very quiet here - there are days you might be the only one on the lake, even mid summer. No tourists, just summer camps and one motel in town.
Spring thru Fall there is a terrific local restaurant, a diner, free tennis and basketball courts and an ice cream shop. Winter the diner is open.
LOTS of healthy outdoor year round activities here!
Spring and Summer for swimming, kayaking, hiking, lots of remote waterfalls to explore and lakes to visit.
Fall is stunningly beautiful foliage, especially from this house! Unobstructed views of the lake and mountains beyond.
