Beach home with boardwalk thru dunes directly to the water. Master bedroom has an office with daybed connected. Second bedroom has queen bed and third has two single beds. Large screen porch underneath with tables and chairs and grill. Walking distance to all island restaurants, grocery stores, shops and the St. George Island Lighthouse.

Apalachicola native went into the military at age 18, then a career in the corporate world, now retired to the good life on the island. I live on St. George Island and run the Maritime Museum in Apalachicola.

The great thing about this home is the proximity to the center of the island. The beach café, Blue Parrot, is a short stroll down the beach from the house. All other restaurants, grocery stores, curio stores, gift shops and equipment rentals are within just a few blocks. The lighthouse and park is visible from the yard and only three blocks away.
This home is at the midway point on the bike path that runs the entire length of the island. It is a two hour round trip ride in either direction. It is a short ride to the stores for grocery shopping or dinner There are other great bicycle rides along the back roads of Pine Street and other bay roads that offer great adventures exploring the older parts of the island. It is also very close to the bridge where the old bridge fishing pier is great for riding or wetting the hook.
The palm studded lot, outdoor hammock and extra large yard make this a spacious and comfortable location with a good deal of privacy. The screen porch under the dock with the nearby grill is a shady and cool respite for dining with an eight seating table and lounge chairs with ferns and other greenery.
When we arrived the cleaning and maintenance crews were busy trying to get the place ready. Many problems remained including the water heater, sinks, toilets, shower, lights, wi-fi, refrigerator. The owner visited us the next day and offered a refund if we found a different place to stay. We took him up on the offer. We believe he is now committed to fixing the problems that we encountered.
Lovely property with great view out over the gulf. Plenty of room for folks to relax. Very comfortable beds.
Unfortunately this property was not at all what we are used to or expected. The house had a very distinct odor of damp, mildew. The kitchen was very dated and dirty. Several windows did not open and the ones that did required you to place an item in them to stay open. The sliding doors were very difficult to open and close. Several lights did not have bulbs and the ones that did were inoperable. There was no outdoor lighting on the deck. There were 2 chase lounges and one was broken. The patio furniture downstairs was chained and locked so you could not move it to the deck. The hot water heater was broken and there was no hot water. The bathrooms were unusable the showers had black mold on the floor and bottom of walls. Lastly, there were lots of bugs in the kitchen and bathrooms. NOW, the good news.... we were not willing to stay in this property and the property owner and our contact person was incredible accommodating and very nice to deal with, they were not aware of all the problems with the house. They did move us to a very nice, beautiful property in the Plantations and we could not have been happier with the new property. Unfortunately I will say that I did make several attempts to contact VRBO and did not have any of my attempts answered. Ultimately at the end of the day we had a beautiful peaceful week once we were settled into the new house.
Our group consisted of 5 women 55+ and 3 dogs. We alll enjoyed our stay. Wanda was very responsive when we had trouble with the elevator (on Sunday), and had repair people out there on Sunday and then again on Monday morning for the final fix. I really appreciated the quick response. I have a physical disability and would have felt much more confined if it had not been for that elevator. Of course if I had to be confined I can't think of a better place than this comfortable home and wonderful deck and ramp to beach. We were surprised at the steps at the end of the ramp, because we interpreted the pictures as stepping from ramp to beach, and instead there were about 8 steps, but I never asked if there were steps, I just assumed there were none, especially since there was an elevator. But again, the inconvenience did not spoil my trip. I managed the steps a few times a day with help from my friends to walk the dogs. And the ramp had a gate at the end so ithe deck was a perfect place to sit with the dogs off leash. My friends enjoyed the shelling and beach combing and two creative ones painted beach scenes and decorated a lamp shade with shells. They enjoyed the screened area down stairs and utilized the fish cleaning station for washing shells and other beach treasures.
I would recommend this property to friends or relatives. The property was clean and well maintained.
We ate dinner twice at the Blue Parrot and I can also recommend this. The food and service was good. Some of our group went to Appalachacola and enjoyed the shops. I personally, wish we had planned on two weeks instead of one. I was not ready to go home after only a week. I think we will be back and stay longer.
My wife and I recently stayed here with our 2 & 3 year olds, my parents, and a cousin and had a great time. This is the perfect house for kids. The long boardwalk has a gate at the end which made the perfect "child proof" area for the kids to run back and forth on. The master bedroom with attached area with a trundle bed is also the perfect room for parents with small children. 2 other rooms made for a comfortable stay for the grandparents and cousin as well. Between a great deck and sliding doors to the living room you can always be watching and listening to the ocean. Will definitely be back to this one.
My husband and I brought my parents and our puppy for a 4 day weekend on the beach and had a great time!! We loved that we walked a few steps and we were on the beach! The only negative was that we went right after a hurricane went through, so there were a lot of seaweed on the water. But it didn't stop us from having a great time! The house was clean and spacious. We would definitely go back!
