Another Great Stay at Toddy Pond!

  • 5 of 5
I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing Maine getaway. The pond and surrounding areas are beautiful and it's in close proximity to many scenic and interesting places. Acadia/Bar Harbor is a very convenient day trip from this location. We enjoyed exploring the pond via kayak and relaxing by a campfire in the evenings. The local seafood is a definite plus!

A perfect retreat

  • 4 of 5
I had a lovely stay! The listing and photos did a great job preparing me for my visit. One thing I wish I'd realized: the condo is a two-minute walk from the water. That's not a problem, and I came to love my morning ritual of trotting down the dirt path to the dock, but it was a surprise -- I'd thought the dock adjoined the back of the house. Also, the ceiling is pitched *very* steeply. The condo uses the space well, even rolling the bed under the eaves to create extra floor space during the day, but the steep ceilings did make for quite a number of head-bumps, especially while cooking. (I'm 5'9, and I had to stay alert to avoid bonking myself while making dinner on the stove.)

Hot showers are important to me, and I'm happy to report that the water pressure was perfect, and the water heater stayed deliciously hot. Unfortunately, the water smelled of sulfur, and occasionally sputtered pretty badly (it felt like the shower was sneezing on me!), but the Haseltines have a plan for getting that fixed.

Everything else worked perfectly -- the stove, the microwave, the kayak, the fridge, the lights, the ceiling fan, the TV (which gets CBS, the CW, and three PBS channels), the fire pit, the gas grill. I didn't have occasion to test the oven, but the pots/pans/dishes/silverware were all great.

Len and Pam were out of town for most of my stay, so I can't really comment on them as hosts; their son showed me around the place when I first arrived, and they were available by phone or text.

The cove house is about 15 minutes away from both downtown Orland and downtown Ellsworth, so I didn't visit local restaurants or coffeeshops as much as I'd expected to. The house only shares the cove with a handful of other camps, most of which had closed up for the season before my mid-September arrival, making it ideal for reading / writing / meditation / prayer / contemplation.

One last note: The dock points due east, so sunrises are just spectacular. I'll never forget the dawns I spent sitting by the still water, watching the sun rise over the trees to burn off the mist and rouse the ducks, great blue heron, loons, and kingfisher I shared my mornings with.

Owner's Response: Thankyou for the great review! We built this cabin under new shorland zoning which does not allow cabins to be built within 100ft of the shore. It is a cove and is full of wildlife. Our water comes from a very deep well (420') and was tested at the state certified lab. It is very safe for drinking but does get an occasional sulfur smell coming from the hot water side. We are working on that! The sputtering is coming from a faulty foot valve which allows air to enter the system. This will be dealt with befor next rental season. We have had a success filled first season and have enjoyed our guests . Thankyou all for making our season so great! Len and Pam Haseltine

Serene, quiet, homey and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5
This place was the perfect vacation spot for our Maine vacation! The cabin is nicely decorated and the privacy and quiet of the woods made it an amazing getaway. The Haseline's didn't leave out any details when decorating and went out of their way to provide all sorts of little extras to make it feel like home away from home. The condo exceeded our expectations and the photos on the webpage couldn't capture the true beauty of the place. The condo is about 40 minutes from Acadia so it was far enough that you get privacy and space at a great price but close enough for an Acadia vacation. We especially loved barbecuing in the backyard, the fire pit and enjoying coffee on the dock. The only small thing was the fact that this summer there was a slight sulfur smell in the well water in the Orland area, but the Haseline's are working on that as I'm typing this review. All in all, we would definitely recommend this place to our friends and family.

A wonderful Maine experience!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first trip to Maine and we found this property to be the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing vacation. The condo was clean, well-equipped, and comfortable. There are many opportunities around the surrounding area to enjoy historical monuments, sightseeing, great seafood and the outdoors. The owners Len and Pam were extremely friendly and helpful in providing us with all the information we needed for a great stay. We would recommend this property if you’re looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway to the beautiful state of Maine. -Addam V. & Andrea W.
