The day we first saw Nonesuch Cottage, we were not intending to buy a home, but we fell in love with it. It was a lovely Cotswold cottage, sitting on a knoll facing south, so that it was bathed in sunshine. We were hooked. The first time I came to Carmel was when my mom brought me here to celebrate my graduation from college. I felt like I had come upon a little European village, right here in California, and dreamed of owning a cottage here one day. My husband felt the same connection a few years later when we included a stop in Carmel on our honeymoon, and we’ve been coming back several times a year ever since.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2007
We purchased Nonesuch because it's European charm seemed perfectly suited to the village of Carmel-by-the-Sea and due to the beauty and accessibility of Carmel.
A beautiful home with first-rate amenities and appliances. The owners were responsive and the property was prepared exactly as advertised. The location is terrific - a short/nice walk to town, the beach and 17-mile drive at the Carmel/Pebble Beach entrance. One guest room is best suited for kids - plan sleeping arrangements accordingly.
This house was perfect for our family. Very close to Ocean Avenue and many restaurants. Ocean Beach is a 10 minute walk on a lovely street. We walked everywhere. The house had a nice layout and a wonderful deck to sit out on for appetizers and wine. Everything was very clean and tidy.
The house and location were absolutely phenomenal. We couldn't have been happier with the accommodations. The house was very well decorated and perfectly maintained.
The proximity to Ocean Avenue was a big attribute. Also, it is a very walkable distance to the ocean.
I would strongly recommend this house to all friends/family. I couldn't have been more pleased.
The location was perfect! Close enough to town but far enough away that there was absolutely no noise at all and you could hear the ocean at high tide. We appreciated the filtered water cooler in the fridge. Plenty of room for a family but not so big that the two of us felt lost. This location allowed us to walk everywhere in Carmel by the Sea. We felt like we were 'earning' our meals by walking especially that hike up to Katy's for breakfast. Not far from Carmel Beach so you can watch the sunset and the beach dogs get their bliss on. (I want to come back as a Carmel beach dog) When you're done, there's a path on the far left of the beach and if you follow it and go up the steep street, it takes you almost right back to the house.
The only things of note is there's a trick to the patio doors, make sure you pull them in good and tight toward you to get them to lock properly. The only thing I wish it had is the option for window coverings of some kind, particularly over the kitchen window. The neighbor and her dog were eye level with us and could see anytime we were in the kitchen, dining or living room which made us a little uneasy. Luckily despite most neighbors having dogs, barking wasn't an issue. We get enough of that at home and were thankful for well behaved pups!
We would definitely stay here again!
What an amazing property in the lovely town of Carmel! The adorable cottage is an easy walk to the beautiful beach or in to town for shopping, dining or wine tasting. The house itself is lovely and very well maintained and equipped. Carmel is such a relaxing town but close to Monterey, Carmel Valley and Big Sur. The house is perfect for families. The master bedroom is large, the second bedroom is also a nice size with the attached bathroom. The third bedroom is perfect for a child, it is a bit of an adventurous climb up to the loft, probably not the best for young kids. The owners were a delight to work with, very thorough and professional.
Our home is located just 2.5 blocks from Ocean Avenue, and about a 5-8 minute walk to Carmel Beach or the southern gate of 17 Mile Drive. Close proximity to Pebble Beach, Cypress Point, Spyglass Hill, Poppy Hills Golf course, and Carmel Valley's wineries, restaurants, and shops. Approx 12 minute drive to Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey (and kayak rentals) or to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (and bicycle rentals).
