Our house is north of San Francisco, on Seaview Ridge in Sonoma County. The house is about 2 miles from the ocean and has a spectacular 180-degree ocean view. It sits on 7 acres of property so is very private. There is lots of hiking nearby, and it's a 20-minute drive to beaches where you can picnic, kayak, dive (scuba or free-dive for abalone in season), gather mussels, etc.
You can also sit on the deck and gaze at the ocean. There are 3 golf courses within a 1-hour drive. Sonoma County wineries (Dry Creek, Russian River and Alexander Valley areas) are a 90-minute drive away.
Owner Description: We are a professional couple with grown children. We enjoy hiking, biking and wine tasting. We love to cook, and this is a perfect house for entertaining and family getaways.
The Unique Benefits of this House: Our location gives us a spectacular ocean view, but because we're on the ridge we are usually above fog so it is warmer and sunnier than on the coast. Our house provides a peaceful getaway from city life.
The entire family (12) spent three days at Christmas enjoying this wonderful home that had everything that anyone could expect. Outdoor activities included rock fishing at Salt Point, hot tubbing and reading on the large deck, mushroom hunting using a guide found in the well-stocked library. Indoor activities included viewing fishing boats out at sea with the resident telescope, solving a multitude of jig saw puzzles, playing lots of canasta, eating home cooked meals and of course enjoying everyone's company 'cause there was no television to distract attention from the purpose of the family reunion. There are two master bedrooms and the four others took care of those who did not yell "shotgun."
After a lot of rain and winds on the coast, the weather for the days we were onsite was absolutely perfect. None the less we like to use the fireplace in the early morning and after 5:00 pm when it started getting dark.
Travelled up to Gualala to find a very nice bakery that helped make a birthday party a big success. We would recommend this property for all ages and appreciated the fact that pets were not allowed. The well-stocked kitchen was super. We decided not to go out for dinner and risk driving in fog and windy, narrow roads.
I took my students (10 boys with special needs) on a four day trip to this glorious house! Everything was absolutely perfect! The "forest" alone was enough to entertain the most active children on the planet! Nearby was Fort Ross which provided a day of education as well as great beach time.
To say that the house was well stocked is an understatement. We wanted for nothing! Of course we brought our own food and such, but any little thing we forgot was right there for us. There were games to play, books to read and endless fun to be had outside. The home is furnished with sturdy, well made furniture that looks great. My class has taken a trip like this each year for the past 15 years and I can tell you that this is not true for most vacation rentals. Probably the best part of the downstairs is the large dining room table. We were able to accommodate all 13 of us with ease witch allowed us to have family style meals. Upstairs, the master bedroom is out of this world! The views alone make it so worth the trip!
The house was clean and nicely kept. Gary and Nancy were very kind and prompt with all correspondence. I can't thank them enough for the valuable lessons they allowed my students to learn in their home.
I would recommend this house to anyone who wants a great get away for a group of people. You are on a large private lot with plenty to do right there at your fingertips!
Thanks again Gary and Nancy! I know that good Karma will come your way!
This house is huge! Plenty of room for relaxing with spacious decks to look at the ocean in between the trees. The private driveway between the trees opens up to the house with all the parking space you need. Nancy and Gary are very nice, courteous and real easy to work with. They keep the house very clean and neat. The house is fully stacked with all kinds of supplies from cleaning to light bulbs and towels, linens, We had a wonderful time. The property has a lot to offer with a great view, big property to go and explore nature all around the house, privacy and a lot of space where you aren't on top of each other. You have rooms where you all can gather and play games, We had the opportunity to have a wonderful fancy meals together at the huge dining room table. The kitchen was spacious to move around in it even with three or four of us in there. with a lot of spices and all kind of pots, pans and utensils. Our cook loved it, The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable, the weather was perfect and the temperature throughout the house was very pleasurable. This was home away from home for us. If you want to have fun and relaxation this is the place. So if you are looking for great vacation home, I would highly recommend this property. Thank you very much Nancy and Gary for sharing this lovely house with us.
Thanks for sharing your house. House was large enough for 4 families to stay comfortably. Nancy and Gary were extremely friendly and responded promptly. I highly recommend this house to large families. This is a perfect retreat in the wilderness of timber cove..
This house was perfect for our family’s needs. With ten adults and two small children, we appreciated having four bathrooms and six bedrooms. The connected main living area and large kitchen with surrounding deck provided a natural gathering space for family meals and conversation, with enough space for people to find quiet places to read. We especially appreciated the well stocked kitchen!! Several family members made use of the sauna and jacuzzi as well. The surrounding area was beautiful, not to mention the stars at night. The only downside for us was having to drive a bit to get to parks, a coffee shop or grocery store.
This house was perfect for our week-long family reunion (5 couples plus 2 toddlers). The location is beautiful and secluded. The house is spacious and comfortable, with a thoughtful and very functional layout. The common space, in particular, has a large kitchen opening out into the dining / living area. Multiple people can cook while socializing with others in the dining / living area. We enjoyed preparing and enjoying gourmet meals. The wraparound porch and sauna were also very pleasant.
I had read in a previous review that the house was well-appointed, but I was very surprised at just how many "accessories" were available: from trash bags to extra soap, to folding chairs, to electric blankets, and a patio umbrella. The kitchen, in particular, was fully stocked with everything you might need: a bread maker, food processor, spices and other pantry items, good sharp knives, serving platters, you name it. (We were glad we brought our own high chair - although maybe it was there, and we just didn't see it!)
Highlights of our nearby activities were bicycling on nearby roads and trails, and visiting tidepools at Salt Point and other beaches.
The owners were prompt, helpful, honest, and accommodating. The property is well-maintained, and I would recommend it.
A few advisories:
-Location: The drive to the closest "civilization" (Guerneville) is over an hour - which suited us. All roads are paved, but with lots of twists and turns. The drive is 3+ hours from SFO without traffic, of which the second half is on small, curvy roads.
-The construction quality and furnishings are more like a "cabin" than a "hotel" - but we found this appropriate to the setting and to our needs. (We were glad we didn't have to child-proof too much)
-Weather: We were there for a week in July, and the weather was sunny for 2 days. Remaining days were a mix of fog and sun. Temperatures on foggy mornings were 48 to 50 degrees. Fog tended to clear around 11 to 12 and return after sundown. Afternoon temperatures were in the low 70s on mixed days and mid-70s on full-sun days. The ocean was visible on sunny days but not on foggy days.
