Our house is in the heart of Crested Butte's historic district. It was built in the early 1900’s however, we lovingly restored it over the last year, reusing materials and preserving it's quirky charm. The floors have a patina developed over almost 100 years, yet we've plugged the old windy holes that gave the old miners a chill.
After a long day of skiing you can soothe your aches and pains in the claw foot tub or run upstairs and take a quick steam shower. When you return from dinner on the town you will enjoy the radiant floor heating and can switch on the old gas fireplace. The bedrooms have great views of Gothic, Mt Crested Butte, Mt Emmons and the Bench where Crested Buttes beloved Coal was mined.
Why the Owner Chose Crested Butte:: Crested Butte has been the family vacation landing pad since my brother started working here over 20 years ago. We grew up in Colorado and as kids ran around Breckenridge like Huckleberry Finn. Crested Butte reminds me of that care free time and kids can still ride their bikes and roam around town like kids should. If you know it you know and love skiing, mountain biking, fly fishing, hiking, Nordic skiing, wildflowers, food the 4th of July and the list goes on.
The Unique Benefits at this House:: Year Purchased: 2005 - You don't need a car in Crested Butte and when you are staying at our place you really don't need a car. It is also a great place that contributes to the postcard feeling of town. You'll be really comfortable with modern amenities, but still connect with Crested Buttes old time spirit.
Owner Description/Comments: : We are a family of three with a large extended family. Kate is working on her Phd, Daniel works in Real Estate (this was his favorite project) and Margaret is working on her ABC's. We love to cook a big meal and then stuff the nephews, brothers, sisters and grandparents in bed.
Great location, and a very pleasant and functional home, perfect for our family of 5. The parking in the back was a big plus, as we watched the neighbors move their cars from one side of the street to the other every day. There is a natural food store a block and 1/2 away, called Mountain Earth - it's like mini Whole Foods. A wonderful bakery/breakfast place called Mountain Oven/The Guild is 5 min walk away. There was so much snow: we xc skied through town to nordic trails. Watching the torchlight parade on the mountain on New Year's eve from the top bedroom windows was a bonus. We found the place very quiet, despite its proximity to Elk street restaurants and bars. The shuttle stop is around the corner and it's really easy to get to the mountain. The kids went to the ice skating rink or to the sledding hill for their Après-ski activity every day! We would like to stay here on our next trip to Crested Butte, thank you, Daniel and Kate!
Great home base while in CB. Clean and comfortable, well stocked. Attractive furnishings, unbeatable location!
We spent a week in Crested Butte in early June and thoroughly enjoyed this house. It was impeccably clean, no pets, and was in a great location. It backs up onto Elk street (CB's main street) so everything you need or want is just a quick walk away.
The only downside is that it occasionally got loud when the bars on Elk closed, but that's a bit of a price you pay for the location.
The house itself is cozy and charming and is perfect for a family or two couples (there's one master downstairs and the upstairs can function easily as a master as well). The kitchen was well equipped with modern appliances and a gas range.
Highly recommended - Hopefully we'll be back soon!
My husband and I spent a week here over Christmas with another couple and had such a lovely time. This house so charming! The upgrades in the kitchen made it a joy to cook in. The bedrooms were not huge, but definitely enough space. The beds were warm and comfy. The bathrooms were clean and the enclosed showers were awesome after a day of boarding. The comfy couches and electric stove made the living room a cozy place to relax, watch TV, and play games after a long day on the mountain. Speaking of the mountain..... the mountain shuttle is right out the back door! Also out your back door is Elk Street. You are steps for great restaurants, shops, and bars. We had such a great time we can't wait to come back and will definitely try to stay here again!
We can not stop thinking about this house! It is amazing. SO, SO, SO comfortable! The beds were the best! Our entire group had the most wonderful afternoon naps in these cozy beds. Lots of extra comforters and pillows for everyone. The location is the best you can get. Smack in the middle of town. Walk out the back door and you are there - in the heart of it all. This place is extremely spacious. We had 4 adults and 2 kids and we had more than enough room for everyone to have their own space. In fact, the kids adored the house. The ammenties are very modern. Wonderful kitchen with tons of supplies. The bathroom showers were incredible. I can not say enough about this house. We had the privilege of meeting the owners while we were there. They are extremely friendly and helpful. They will get you anyhting you need. We would love to come back and stay in this house again!
I have been to CB several times and this house is in the best location. Walk out the back door and it is a very short walk to the bus station where you can catch the bus to the mountain. You are literally right behind the heart of the shops and restaurants on Elk.
The house has tons of character. It has a perfectly charming, rustic, mountain feel. Baths and kitchen were recently updated so it also has modern luxuries.
We are downtown, one block off of Elk Avenue(the main street) in the historic part of town. You don't need a car when staying at our place. The bus to the ski mountain is three houses away at the 1800 town hall and all of the best restaurants and shops are within a two to three block radius.
Other Activities: Crested Butte is a wonderful place with lots of options. We love to go cross country skiing. The nordic center is about a block away. There are lot's of free and paid trails that are groomed. Children under twelve get rental equipment free at the Nordic Center. Of course we love to downhill ski! Crested Butte offers some of the best extreme, intermediate and beginner terrain in the country. Summers are even better! You can really enjoy our yard and the beautiful days and evenings. We have been on the garden tour and spend a lot of time choosing plants that will thrive in the mountains. You can also enjoy, mountain biking, hiking, ballooning, fly fishing, birding, wildflower tours, summer concerts, plays, music and fireworks.
Golf: We have two fabulous and very different clubs in the area. Dos Rios in Gunnison is a hometown course that has you driving across the Gunnison River(A true water hazard). It is in the cottonwoods and has a friendly course and poeple.
Skyland is truly a singular place to golf. The views are stunning and the course is one of the premier venues in the country. It is a Robert Trent Jones course sure to challenge the most seasoned golfers.
Ski: We have Mt Crested Butte clearly one of the premier skiing destinations in North America. You can also really enjoy the Nordic trails around Crested Butte. There are miles and miles of scenic and groomed trails. Another wonderful way to enjoy the winter!
