Tucked into the wooded rivertown lot of this quiet residential area just one block from the bluff of the Mississippi River, this 1880 home sets the mood for a slower pace of another era. There are details though that equate with today, There is the private elevator. 32 inch flat screen TV, and the gas grill on the patio..Then there are special details like the custom ceramic linlays, leaded glass doors and three working fireplaces. Private elevator, 5 fireplaces, national register property, wine refrigerator. Sorry no cats. We can only accommodate small non-shedding dogs. Birding, old car shows every other Saturday night all summer long!

We had a fantastic stay at this property. The building is beautiful. We had a mobility challenged family member, so the elevator worked out great for us. The kitchen was great. The 5-yr old loved the "princess nook". Plenty of room for our four separate family groups. The deck and patio were fantastic, yet the ability to get out of the heat with air conditioning is a nice treat. Supplied cookies and ice cream were delicious and enjoyed by all. We really didn't have any down side, other than the other tenants (above us) were noisy early risers and hogged the parking, but as soon as we brought the parking to the owners attention they addressed it. All our questions were answered quickly before our stay. The location is great - Hastings is beautiful and close enough to attractions to keep a 5-yr old quite busy for a week! Loved it!
Owner's Response: What a joy to have you stay at Thorwood. Our only regret was that we did not have the chance to serve you breakfast at least one of your busy days at Rosewood! We have renamed the cupboard bed, the "Princess Nook" . Thank you for your graciousness too with the lost check. We hope to see you again.

Gracious Hospitality and Comfortable Luxury

We stayed at Thorwood the month of August. Hastings is a charming community, and well located for all the activities and attractions that we wanted to see in the area. “Ordinary” is the last word we would use to describe this beautiful and spaciously comfortable home. The layout and the size of the home make it an ideal spot for large families, or several couples traveling together. There are wonderful, even magical, features in every room and around every corner, from the Jacuzzi and fireplace in the master bath, to the much appreciated elevator! The nook bed in one of the bedrooms enchanted our teen daughter and gave her the perfect venue for late-night summer reading. The backyard area was great for grilling and entertaining, and the gourmet kitchen is a treat! The most memorable part was the hospitality provided by the accommodating hosts and owners Dick and Pam Thorsen. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We highly recommend Thorwood and are planning on returning there ourselves.
