Overview

Lake Norman House Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 2br/1ba sleeps 4 adults. Adjacent to VRBO# 453657

'Rosella' is a cottage built on the shores of the beautiful and private Mountain Island Lake. Much of this lake is parklands, wildlife, sanctuaries and properties restricted from development. This home was built in 1952 and has provided decades of lakefront fun and fishing. Years ago the house was divided into two separate apartments. In 2011 we converted the upstairs into a vacation rental. In March 2014 we completely updated the decor. We provide high speed wireless, flat screen TV's, Wii and a state of the art karaoke machine with thousands of songs, but you can get most of that at a Holiday Inn. The unique experience you get with a stay here is that little step back in time. It starts when you pull in to the skinny gravel drive and end up at a plain but well kept mid-century home. There are paneled walls unit a/c and no dishwasher. No subdivision, no pool, no tennis courts. There are only two neighbors. There is a 1 bed room unit below that is also available for rent. Unless you plan on renting both units you should be planning a quiet stay. Prior guests that have most enjoyed Rosella spend much of their time on the screened porch overlooking the lake. Rosella was built right on the lake's shoreline. You are so close to the boats going by you can see right inside them. At night when they cruise by you could truly join in their conversation. The place is very popular and in our few short years leasing it we have had hundreds of guests. In that time we have learned that Rosella is not for everyone. We have done our best to accurately describe the 'experience.' If that slow paced step back in time is not what you are looking for you may not enjoy Rosella, if on the other hand, you would like to relive the way things used to be or experience it for the first time we don't think you will be disappointed. We look forward to your arrival. In 2014, we just purchased a new Harris Floteboat that will be docked at the home and available for rent. Rental fee is $150/day and includes gas and insurance. This rate is approximately 1/2 the going rate in the area. Boat rental is scheduled separately from the vacation rental. It is strongly advised that you reserve it prior to your stay. A security deposit and application is required in advance.

About Bob Rudolph

We are Bob and Kim and we are lake enthusiast. We own homes on several of the lakes in the area. We presently live on a lake close by and we love this place so much we spend many weekends here.

Bob Rudolph purchased this house in 1990

Why Bob Rudolph chose Lake Norman

We lived here at one time and knew we could never part with it. 'Rosella' is not an investment for us. She is part of the family. We know that if you stay here and get to know Mountain Island Lake you will be 'hooked' too.

What makes this house unique

Many of our guests come to experience the National Whitewater Center. If you come, we strongly suggest you visit there. It's a man made river rapids that you can kayak or do a guided raft run. This is the only man made Olympic qualifying rapids in the country.

There is vertical rock climbing, zip lining and a lot more outdoor adventures. If you don't feel quite that adventurous there is a riverside restaurant where you can get a great meal and a glass of wine while you watch crazy people careen down a wall of water and rocks. There are also summer concerts and island sunset parties. It costs just $5 to park and nothing to visit the center. You can drive from Rosella, park your car, and walk to the river's edge in less than 10 minutes.

Outstanding Rental

  • 5 of 5

Great location, very comfortable apartment. View of the lake from the living room is inspiring. Lot of privacy, only 2 homes on the street, but excellent access from the thruway which leads directly to Charlotte (20 min). Owners checked in by phone to make sure everything was OK, but otherwise gave us full privacy. The 2014 renovation was apparent, looks like a designers touch but without being 'precious'. Rooms were large, and overall very clean. Probably the best VRBO rental we've had (of about 15). We look forward to returning the next time we visit Charlotte. The only improvement I'd suggest (based on other properties) would be a binder with local points of interest, restaurants, etc.. We were not at all familiar with the area (from Boston), and mainly relied on Yelp for tips.

Owner's Response: Thanks Rick and Lisa, We love the place and have had so many great times there. We are so pleased that you saw Rosella the way we see her! Thanks for the reminder on the guest book. That has been suggested before and I bought binders to work on that but have never gotten around to getting it done. I agree it would be a lot of help and I'm going to get on it.

This little Lakeside getaway is absolutely precious! My husband and I live about 3-4 hours away, and just wanted a secluded little weekend away, just for ourselves. This place couldn't have been more perfect! The view of the lake was so beautiful, the owner was so kind, and the place was just perfect. It's pet friendly, but also SUPER clean. We brought our pups and they were so happy to hang out on the screen porch overlooking the lake. The place was so cozy and warm and comfortable. And just a super quick trip into Charlotte! The only thing we wish was better was the water pressure. It was hard to get the shampoo out of our hair! But that tiny matter was so overshadowed by all of the good!

Owner's Response: Courtney Thanks for your comments. I went by to check and the shower and the pressure is abnormally low. I called a plumber today to investigate. I always appreciate the heads up!

The Cottage is very quiet and peaceful. The lake was absolutely beautiful. My husband and I came to help my daughter and her husband move into their new home and they were so impressed with the place, they kept the info for visitors!. The place is quite and clean. It has everything you need for your stay and Bob is wonderful to work with. I would recommend this place anyone. It is soooooo relaxing! Thank you we really enjoyed our stay.

We enjoyed it but it could have been cleaner.

Three of us stayed in the 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom second floor unit for four nights. We loved the lake view! Decorated nicely. Relatively new carpet throughout. Beds and furniture were fine. Bathroom should have been cleaner. Carpet should have been cleaner. A long-haired dog had obviously stayed there. We vacuumed the entire place three times right after we got there. Fortunately, the cyclonic vacuum was very good. It picked up several 6" diameter balls of dog hair and dust before we were done vacuuming. After the scent that had been sprayed before we came wore off, it still smelled like dog in some places. Fortunately, we like dogs and had a German Shepherd. Oh, jet traffic from Charlotte-Douglas International flies overhead. It is not noisy inside, but it is noisy on the nice screened porch overlooking the lake. I tried to do a web meeting out there but had to move back inside and shut the sliding glass door. We cooked and ate many of our meals there. It was generally a good stay and we would do it again.

Owner's Response: Tough review to answer. The place is 10 minutes to the airport. Planes are typically flying pretty high when going over this area. The ceiling may have been low that day and planes were flying a little lower than usual. We have had 100s of guests and don't remember a comment about planes. "Could have been cleaner." I probably need to take the blame here. I think I overbooked the place and it got away from our cleaning person. The place stays pretty busy most years but was booked solid from about August on. I wasn't trying to be greedy but I hate to tell someone "no". We usually get an empty week to do some catching up but just didn't this year. We have had only one cleaning person since we started vacation rentals and she is pretty great but apparently didn't have her best day here. If you read past comments clean is one of the adjectives most folks use to describe the place, but we will get the carpets cleaned and do a deep cleaning to the place. We appreciate the heads up and Ill have to make myself say "no" sometimes to make sure the place does not get over used.

We fell in love with this cottage on the lake! You can sit on the couch and look over the water, watch a beautiful sunrise, fish from the dock, soak in the hot tub or take out the pontoon boat. It is so peaceful and tucked away off the road, it's like a secluded dream cottage you never want to leave. Highest recommendation!

A unique feature to this property is that we have a boat rental company that provides your choice of either a pontoon boat or ski boat right from the dock in front of the house. Please inquire for additional details.

Please note We are struggling to continue to offer

the boats. We have had guests that over estimated

their nautical expertise and have had numerous accidents and mechanical break downs due to inexperience. We will have to have a large deposit

to secure a boat and please be honest about your

experience level. I am more than glad to take you

out and show you the ropes. Boats will be available

as it is mechanically possible.

This is truly a waterfront cottage that's located just a few feet from the beautiful water's edge. A great ski/ sight seeing boat is available for your private use. Owner lives close by and at your request will take you out and give you a tour of the lake. There are sandy beaches for picnics or camping and a sandbar where all the local boaters gather. Adjacent to the property is a large county owned park that has miles of hiking and wildlife. Believe it or not but all of this is just 15 mins from downtown Charlotte and all the major attractions Charlotte has to offer.
