This is a magnificent modern loft in a converted industrial building. Located across the street from the new San Francisco baseball park and the main city train station, this place is perfect for work in the city, commuting down to Silicon Valley, or having a fantastic bay area vacation.
Inside this spacious, modern loft you can relax, work, or entertain. With blazing fast wireless Internet (50 megabits), a large desk, printer, scanner, and copier, you’ll find the loft much more productive than your office. This loft luxuriously furnished in a contemporary style and decorated with original artwork, antiques, and thick woolen carpets from New Zealand.
Distractions from work include two flat screen TVs with Premium cable TV channels and a gourmet kitchen with Bosch appliances, granite counters, all equipped down to the right details by a Cordon-Bleu-trained chef. A Bosch washer/dryer provides personal convenience, but a drycleaner is located within half a city block.
The neighborhood is loaded with amazing restaurants in unique industrial spaces. Not to mention San Francisco’s best night clubs. In the morning, you can sleep it off or take a jog along the Embarcadero.

After a career in the IT industry and 30 years in Colorado, I moved to San Francisco four years ago.
I came to be with my new grandchildren, who live with their parents down in Silicon Valley, but I wanted an urban pad that would position me between my graduate studies at Berkeley and cute grandkids in Woodside. This was just the place and when I took a look at this loft, I knew it was perfect.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 2007
San Francisco is a very small big city. Or perhaps a big small city. The population and size are small, but it has the cultural attractions of much larger cities.
When I get the time, I love the symphony and the opera in San Francisco. I love cooking as well (something that's reinforced with two appreciative children and two adorable grandkids here). The farmer's market in the Ferry Building is a chef's paradise (provided you're not on a budget).
I stayed in this amazing apartment while I was on a 3 month work assignment in San Francisco. It was the perfect place for me while I was away. It is beautiful, tasteful, quiet and spacious. The location couldn't be better, with the Cal Train, Muni, Safeway, Walgreens and restaurants and coffee shops all seconds from your front door. Also the owners were excellent hosts and were very responsive whenever I contacted them. I was truly sad to leave because I had grown so comfortable there!! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property and I sure hope to stay there again myself when I'm next in San Francisco.
Stayed here for 2.5 months for work and the loft was more than perfect. Responsive owner. Spacious apartment, safe building, well stocked with everything you could need, great and comfortable furnishings, conveniently located for commuting outside of city for work (taxi stand across the street was SO useful in SF; Walgreens downstairs, Safeway caddy corner, UPS Store and dry cleaners around the corner, close to good food places). If I had a complaint it would only be that the bed could have been a bit more comfortable - mattress was very firm/stiff - but a minor detail that would not hinder me from staying here again/recommending it to a friend.
Our stay at 4th and Townsand Street was fantastic. Everything was as described and the pictures on VRBO don’t do it justice. The layout worked very well, the amenities are clean, new and the apartment is well maintained. It has grocery stores, (Safeway and Whole Foods), pharmacies, coffee shops and restaurants minutes away by foot. I had to be in the south bay and having CalTrain next door is convent. It has everything we’re use to living in New York and more. We even walked to the opening Giants game and home without parking or packing onto mass transit. And in the time we spent, my wife and I agreed our favorite restaurant is 25 Lusk also a block away. The owner is one of the nicest people we’ve had the pleasure meeting and is very thoughtful. All in all one of the best VRBO experiences we’ve had.
The building is 112 years old and was redeveloped 3-4 years ago. Incredible location across from the Caltrain station and a 15 minute walk to the financial district and The Ferry Building and 5 minute walk to AT&T Ballpark.. Cabs always avaialble across the street. Loads of area ameneties. Very safe and secure in the SOMA are of San Francisco. Lots of new develoopment in the area. Top floor condo with interior exposed brick walls, open floorplan and wood beam ceiling. Large expansive windows with great site lines. Finished in an urban European contempory manner with modern appliances. Extremely kind and responsive owners. State-of-the-art technology with Google TV and broadband internet connection. Covered parking stall however we never needed a car as the mass transit system in SF is marvelous. Zip car locations are convenient. I do not believe we could have found a beter location in al of San Francisco.
We had the opportunity to spend the month of Oct. 2011 here; it was delightful. Light airy space, clean and modern facilities, easy walk to Caltrain, to waterfront, to cafes, to groceries et. al. And the owners, Rosemary and Paul, simply could not have been nicer or more easy people with whom to deal. As our plans changed they proved generous and helpful in accommodating us in every way. Would certainly stay again if needing long term digs in San Francisco.
We stayed here as a family, and had an absolutely wonderful time. Since there were so many positives things about living, I will just list them:
- Hardwood floors
- Modern & large kitchen
- A comprehensive array of kitchen and cooking related items
- High quality furniture and deocrations
- Great access to the SF city transportation system and taxis (literally less than a block away)
- Secured front lobby entry
- High end internet capable tv's
- Great washer/dryer machines inside the unit
- A parking spot in the garage (if you know Soma, you know how valuable this can be)
The best part of the unit however may be it's owner. She is very responsive, polite, and terrific to interact with. The only negative I can really think of is that the super high ceilings which show the great wooden beams creates a gap between the bedroom and the rest of the unit so that it is not necessarily 100% soundproof?
But overall, we had a great time and felt lucky to have had the chance to rent it!
