Beautiful cabin, placid lake and lots of wildlife -- GREAT vacation!

  • 5 of 5
When we moved to Colorado last year one of the things I dreamed about was a cabin in the forest, surrounded by lots of wildlife and a modern comfortable house. Moose Tracks Manor was better than my dreams! The small, private lake is gorgeous and the cabin is beautiful and extremely comfortable. We saw several elk in the near by National forest and we saw several moose and one fox from inside the cabin.

We've already booked our next visit.

The cabin is great, and all of the photos are accurate to show the inside and outside. We saw a moose family down the road three of the four days we stayed, including one morning when they took naps under the trees across the road from the cabin. We listened to bugling elk in the distance from the swing by the lake each evening. The golden / yellow aspen trees were a pleasant surprise, since fall colors weren't something we anticipated in our planning. We're tempted not to tell anyone about this place so we can keep it a secret, making it easier to rent again in the future!

A Pioneer Family Reunion!!!

  • 5 of 5
Wow,if I could give it 10 stars I would!!! The description of Moose Tracks Manor is truly spot on! We rented this beautiful home for an impromptu family reunion that turned out to be a trip of a lifetime for us all. Our family came in from Arizona and the rest of the clan all live in Colorado which made it perfect because of the central location of the cabin. The activities on the lake were more than we could have hoped!!! We caught numerous monster Rainbows with the largest being almost 23" and pushing 5 pounds!!! The fishing in Sun Valley Lake is truly worth the trip from anywhere. The cabin was clean and stocked with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen was plenty big enough for preparing any meal you would want. We all had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the cabin in our own ways. We saw Daddy,Mama and baby Moose almost everyday and the Elk were bugling every night! There is the most adorable family of Otters that live on the lake and were more than fun to watch and listen too. I would definitely recommend renting an atv from O.T.T.R. which is practically connected to the property, and seeing the area that is only accessible by the smaller vehicles is the way to go!!! Thank you Rod and Jill for opening up this little piece of heaven for all to enjoy and God willing we will be back again!! But for longer this time...

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you had such a great experience. We put a lot of time and effort into our mountain home, and it is all worthwhile when we can host a family reunion that creates lifetime memories for a family like yours.
September is a wonderful time to visit the Grand Lake area - the aspens turn yellow, the wildlife are active and preparing for winter, the weather is still good and the summer crowds are gone but the restaurants and shops are still open.
We do hope to see you and your family again next year!

I want to live here permanently!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at this lovely house/cabin on Sun Valley Lake for almost a week and it was everything I'd hoped it would be.. The first morning, of coffee on the back porch, led to an awesome and unbelieveable adventure of 4 MOOSE running into our "backyard" and entertaining us for hours and then different ones showed up the next two days as well. We also had a visit from a little cute fox that checked us out for a while one night, saw tons Elk in the Rockies, which is right next door, went ATVing - which was something I had always wanted to do, saw quite a few Osprey's diving into the lake for fish, and a ton of Deer. I felt like Snow White!

The cabin is laid out nicely, the back yard and patio are fabulous, the kitchen and family room are spacious with wonderful views to the lake, which is steps away. We will definitely be back!! The only negative that I have is that the mattress in the downstairs bedroom is very hard and uncomfortable, that I really hope they get a new one with more pillows....Otherwise, I want to live there permanently!

Moose Tracks

  • 5 of 5
There were 9 of us staying at Moose Tracks, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The vaulted ceilings, décor, fireplace, fire pit, morning coffee on the dock were great. The house was well stocked with all household items needed including towels, sheets, pillows, etc as well a washer/dryer. We canoed, fished, although the person who fished did not catch anything. Rod thought he perhaps needed to adjust his line, etc. and confirmed that there ARE fish in the lake. Since there were 9 adults (60-80 yrs.) we did use the two blow up mattresses that we brought so two adults would not to share the lower bunk and futon on the upstairs level. (Kids or young adults may have been fine.) Also, we had a limitation since the king size bed was used only by the 80 yr. old matriarch. Grand Lake is a fun place to tour, and we especially liked the Rapids restaurant for the scenery/food/service. The two cows and 2 calves that frequented the next door salt lick, was a plus! We took 3 wonderful hikes recommended by the Kawuneeche Visitor Center.

We had an amazing time!

  • 5 of 5
We just spent 4 nights at this cabin and had such a wonderful time. The cabin is amazing. You take 10 steps out the back door and you are at the edge of a beautiful lake. The cabin slept 8 of us comfortably. We prepared most of our meals there and the kitchen had everything we needed it in. We used the BBQ grill on the back patio as well. We fished on the lake and caught several nice trout. The lake is "catch and release" only. We used the canoe that was provided and fished out in the middle of the lake as well. We spent most of our evenings around the warm firepit. We basically shared the property with several moose and a calf! We saw river otters, hummingbirds, chipmunks, deer and many types of birds. We had must missed a bear that was near the property the evening before we arrived. Grand Lake is nearby and has shopping and restaurants.
We highly recommend this cabin and hope to be back again in the near future.
