A charming jewel and an enchanted gem

What a charming jewel and an enchanted gem we found last year when in the midst of the season without much hope of chancing on any opening we stumbled on this truly remarkable find. Apparently somebody had cancelled and we lucked out.
Having spent many a winter in the sunny north county of San Diego our standards were high. Florida had not been on our list for various reasons but now we faced the challenge and charged ahead. How disappointed we were with the Ft. Lauderdale Airport and the drive up on I95 which was not that different from New Jersey. But then when we entered Delray Beach just at the time of the St. Patrick Parade and drove north and then around a corner into a Cul-de-sac we felt we had landed in paradise.
Our unit was the third in a “triplex” of three garden apartments surrounded by palm trees and blooming hedges and bathed in the fragrance of honey suckle. We entered the apartment and felt immediately at home. The cool tile floors offered comfort in the heat that we were not yet acquainted to. Or neighbors were friendly and told us where to shop and how to get to the beach – an immediate community indeed. In the days to come we went to explore the area, discovering such treasures as the Gulf Stream Park and the Green Cay Nature Center. But always after these excursions how much we cherished to come back to our hideaway. We cooked and then lounged outside surrounded by a friendly salamander here or there and enjoying the slight breeze and the song of the birds. We were so happy that we decided to come back the following year – which we did. We knew what to expect and we were not disappointed. This time we even got to know the lovable owner and her father who live in Ft. Lauderdale. Some of the conveniences that we should not forget to mention are the wireless connection and shopping areas actual in walking distance. The center of Delray Beach is easy to reach in a few minutes by bus if one chooses not to drive.
A final note! Both of us are hatha yoga fans and there is the most beautiful yoga center in walking distance just around the corner (the Buddha Lounge Yoga Studio).
So much were we influenced by our experience that we decided to come back later this year again (2013) and use the “hideaway” as a basis to look for a home in the area.
It is almost painful to think that – should we find something in the Delray Beach area – we would not come back to our island of peace and joy.
