GREAT APARTMENT DOWNTOWN TC

Traverse City Apartment Rental Photos and Description

2BR, 1 BA spacious loft apartment. Family friendly, pets welcome.

The Flat is located above the fun French bistro, Foufou, in the heart of Traverse City, making it a fantastic home base for any of the fun festivals that happen throughout the year. A parking spot is provided in the lot across the street (a coup in the city!).

There are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a king sized bed. The second bedroom has two twin beds. There is a living area with a TV (dvd player), a dining area, which we have set for 4, but the table can extend to seat 12. The kitchen has a four burner electric stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. There is a coffee pot and a pantry stocked with the basics. The bathroom has a shower/bath and a full sized washer and dryer.

The apartment is clean, comfortable and an easy place to be. Dogs are welcome. We call this a loft because the bedroom walls to not reach to the (exposed) ceilings, so you can hear everything.

The apartment is accessed via the alley, in a separate entrance from the restaurant. It is private, well lit and secure. Guests find the space to be bigger than they expected. It is well furnished, yet sparse, which I think creates a sense of calm.

We are Brooke & Guillaume Hazael-Massieux. We moved to Leelanau county in 2006 when we bought La Becasse, a French country restaurant in Burdickville. Like many before us, we fell for the region hard and fast! In 2012 we opened Bistro Foufou in Traverse City and at the same time leased the charming apartment above the restaurant.

Brooke Hazael-Massieux purchased this apartment in 2012

The Flat, as we have taken to calling the space, is a fun loft apartment with an urban feel. It provides an excellent home base for Traverse City fun. We stayed here with our kids and puppy for a weekend last winter, and enjoyed being so close to everything. The entry is private, and the apartment is spacious. I can see also using the flat to host a small group if you are in town for a wedding. A parking space is included, which is a huge boon if you are driving. And, of course we are biased, but we think it would be fun to stay so close to a fun French bistro and would take advantage of eating in the restaurant or hanging out at the bar, and some nights simply getting food to go and enjoying the great apartment.

The apartment is easy to access, it's got great natural light, has the basics covered and is a fun way to vacation.

THE LOFT ABOVE BISTRO FOUFOU

  • 4 of 5
My sisters & I had the pleasure of staying for a week in the loft above
Bistro Foufou in downtown Traverse City. The location is awesome. It
is 1 block from Front Street. The loft was spotless and included anything
we might have needed. We never heard any noise from the Bistro below;
however, between 6:30 and 7:00 each morning, the garbage trucks were
in the alley emptying the dumpsters for the area businesses. This was quite
loud, as the windows faced the alley. If you like getting up early when you
are on vacation, it will not bother you. The only other negative would be
the fact that employees park in the alley by the Bistro and there was always
a car in front of our entry door, which sometimes was very close, making
it difficult to get in the door.
We considered this to be one of our favorite places to stay in Traverse City
and plan to book it for next summer. Thank you, Guillaume & Brooke for
sharing the loft with vacationers!! We loved it.

Owner's Response: Thank you--I'm really glad you enjoyed the flat. I also appreciate the negatives that you point out--the garbage trucks we can't do anything about, but we can address the parking too close to the entry door. Thanks for the feed back, and look forward to having you stay with us again!

PERFECT LOCATION

  • 4 of 5
Perfect location. Right downtown. Walking distance to almost anything you would need. The apartment was bigger than we expected and nice and clean. Will definitely be staying here again sometime!
Only one negative...early in the morning on Saturday I could hear all the alleyway trash cans being picked up or opened and slammed shut and couldn't sleep in like I wanted to.
I would 100% recommend this place!

THE MIDDLE OF DOWNTOWN TRAVERSE CITY

  • 4 of 5
The apartment above Bistro FouFou was everything we thought it would be and then some. What a great place! Entry off the alley right behind main street and so convenient with free parking across the street. This place is bigger than we imagined with its high ceilings and tall windows. Great place for our kids, dog and us to stay the weekend.
Garbage pickup Saturday morning was kind of loud but you expect that in the city. Someone continuously parked immediately outside the entry door (inches) to the apartment and it is a good thing we aren't too big because we never would have been able to get in and out. Only other note is that it is a loft style apartment so the walls of the bedrooms don't close in the bedroom for privacy but it really wasn't a problem for our stay.
Overall great place and better than a hotel. The kitchen had everything you need and it was very convenient to everything.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the response, and glad you enjoyed the apartment. Good to know about the car by the door--I'll be sure to pass that along so that when guests are in the apartment the people who park their cars next to the restaurant can be sensitive to the distance from the apartment entrance.

FANTASTIC PROPERTY AND THE OWNERS COULDN'T BE EASIER TO WORK WITH

Fantastic property and the owners couldn't be easier to work with
  • 5 of 5
This is our second stay at this property and it has become my default go-to in northern Michigan. The location is perfect, right in the middle of downtown TC and within walking distance of just about everything. Our first stay had us snowed in but it didn't really impact us, we parked our cars and didn't see them again for 4 days and just walked everywhere we needed to go.

This last trip involved some travel difficulties on my end. The owner was extremely helpful and bent over backwards to accommodate my schedule. I can't speak highly enough about dealing with these folks. Fantastic experience all around.

Our apartment is located in downtown Traverse City, giving travelers the convenience of easy access to restaurants, movies (The State Theater!), shops, churches, banks, and grocery stores. And, this being Traverse City, the beach is a stone's throw away, easily accessed by foot or bike. Winery tours of Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau County make for amazing day trips. The Traverse City Film Festival is an incredible event, for which this apartment is ideally situated. The Cherry Fest is a super family event that happens right outside the door.

There are nearby parks with playgrounds for kids. A short drive takes you to casinos, golf courses, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. And water! You can enjoy miles of beaches and with that many water-based activities.

Traverse City is delightful year round. It is a fabulous home base for fall color tours, as well as winter skiing. February is fun with the comedy fest and the beer & music festival. The nearby City Opera House has an amazing performance line-up year round, and you may be able to catch one of the National Writer Series conversations. In short, Traverse City has much to offer, and having a downtown home base puts you in the center of it.
