|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
The Flat is located above the fun French bistro, Foufou, in the heart of Traverse City, making it a fantastic home base for any of the fun festivals that happen throughout the year. A parking spot is provided in the lot across the street (a coup in the city!).
There are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a king sized bed. The second bedroom has two twin beds. There is a living area with a TV (dvd player), a dining area, which we have set for 4, but the table can extend to seat 12. The kitchen has a four burner electric stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. There is a coffee pot and a pantry stocked with the basics. The bathroom has a shower/bath and a full sized washer and dryer.
The apartment is clean, comfortable and an easy place to be. Dogs are welcome. We call this a loft because the bedroom walls to not reach to the (exposed) ceilings, so you can hear everything.
The apartment is accessed via the alley, in a separate entrance from the restaurant. It is private, well lit and secure. Guests find the space to be bigger than they expected. It is well furnished, yet sparse, which I think creates a sense of calm.
We are Brooke & Guillaume Hazael-Massieux. We moved to Leelanau county in 2006 when we bought La Becasse, a French country restaurant in Burdickville. Like many before us, we fell for the region hard and fast! In 2012 we opened Bistro Foufou in Traverse City and at the same time leased the charming apartment above the restaurant.

The Flat, as we have taken to calling the space, is a fun loft apartment with an urban feel. It provides an excellent home base for Traverse City fun. We stayed here with our kids and puppy for a weekend last winter, and enjoyed being so close to everything. The entry is private, and the apartment is spacious. I can see also using the flat to host a small group if you are in town for a wedding. A parking space is included, which is a huge boon if you are driving. And, of course we are biased, but we think it would be fun to stay so close to a fun French bistro and would take advantage of eating in the restaurant or hanging out at the bar, and some nights simply getting food to go and enjoying the great apartment.
The apartment is easy to access, it's got great natural light, has the basics covered and is a fun way to vacation.
I stayed with 6 other women, there was plenty of room for everyone, even with the blow up mattress, which was comfortable too! The location was a prime spot for our Bachelorette base, we were in walking distance of 3 different bars. I would recommend this place to EVERYONE and may even take a mini-vaca again to Traverse City because I know we didn't see half the town :)
We'll stay again! Thank you!
Great location! Loved the loft. Hosts were friendly and helpful. To notch, plan to stay again. ...
All of the previous reviews are so true! Everything that is represented on the rental listing is 100% correct.
In fact, the pictures don't show the current furnishings which are great. Brooke is responsive and a pleasure to deal with.
You cannot beat the price, quality, and location of the Foufou flat! Our frisky cat will miss all the great places to hide in the loft ceiling area!
This loft brought us so much joy all week…it is even better than the pics, as they’ve added furnishings, artwork and a TV area (with plenty of channels). We walked in and it immediately felt like home. The owners were super nice; the location can’t be beat (walking distance to all downtown shops, restaurants, theatres, lakefront/beach area, etc.) and a coveted downtown TC parking space to boot! What really stood out was how remarkably CLEAN the entire place was and the attention to detail the owners have put into making this loft feel like home. There was plenty of everything you could possibly need…all kitchen & bathroom necessities…plus some! These folks have thought of everything to make it a great experience…Band-Aids, scissors, a deck of cards, even a sewing kit! The laundry facilities were much appreciated as well. We can’t stress enough how impressed we were with this rental. They even had signed coffee table children’s books about the history of the area. Although we didn’t have any children with us, we thoroughly enjoyed reading them! We have already booked our next stay at this rental and feel privileged to have found this gem of a loft in such a perfect location!
My sisters & I had the pleasure of staying for a week in the loft above
Bistro Foufou in downtown Traverse City. The location is awesome. It
is 1 block from Front Street. The loft was spotless and included anything
we might have needed. We never heard any noise from the Bistro below;
however, between 6:30 and 7:00 each morning, the garbage trucks were
in the alley emptying the dumpsters for the area businesses. This was quite
loud, as the windows faced the alley. If you like getting up early when you
are on vacation, it will not bother you. The only other negative would be
the fact that employees park in the alley by the Bistro and there was always
a car in front of our entry door, which sometimes was very close, making
it difficult to get in the door.
We considered this to be one of our favorite places to stay in Traverse City
and plan to book it for next summer. Thank you, Guillaume & Brooke for
sharing the loft with vacationers!! We loved it.
Our apartment is located in downtown Traverse City, giving travelers the convenience of easy access to restaurants, movies (The State Theater!), shops, churches, banks, and grocery stores. And, this being Traverse City, the beach is a stone's throw away, easily accessed by foot or bike. Winery tours of Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau County make for amazing day trips. The Traverse City Film Festival is an incredible event, for which this apartment is ideally situated. The Cherry Fest is a super family event that happens right outside the door.
There are nearby parks with playgrounds for kids. A short drive takes you to casinos, golf courses, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. And water! You can enjoy miles of beaches and with that many water-based activities.
Traverse City is delightful year round. It is a fabulous home base for fall color tours, as well as winter skiing. February is fun with the comedy fest and the beer & music festival. The nearby City Opera House has an amazing performance line-up year round, and you may be able to catch one of the National Writer Series conversations. In short, Traverse City has much to offer, and having a downtown home base puts you in the center of it.
