A MAGICAL PLACE TO STAY FOR VISITING THE GRAND CANYON AND MUCH MORE!

Grand Canyon House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedroom, 2.5 bathroom Mountain Getaway with spectacular views

The Mountain Star is located in the heart of the Coconino National Forest along the San Francisco Peaks scenic corridor between the mountain town of Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. This spectacular and convenient location sets The Mountain Star apart from Williams and other rural locations. It can be rented for as little as 2 days, but is ideal for longer stays.

The Mountain Star is less than one hour’s drive from the Grand Canyon’s main entrance, and if you don’t want to drive yourself, a local tour company van will pick you up directly from this property. So enjoy the Grand Canyon and then leave the heat and crowds behind to enjoy your very own mountain retreat!

The Mountain Star, located at an elevation of 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) on 5 beautiful acres and backed by National Forest land, offers breath-taking natural beauty, expansive views, direct and easy access to nature, boundless outdoor activities (nature walks and hikes, biking, climbing, etc.) and a spectacular night sky. It is a sanctuary for inspiration, relaxation, reflection and rejuvenation, as well as being perfectly situated for outdoor fun and adventure. Its spacious, 2nd-story wrap-around deck with picnic table, chairs and chiminea (outdoor fireplace) provides for unparalleled enjoyment of the mountain air and scenery.

Experience seeing the sun breach the horizon every morning and evening, moon rises and moon-sets too. When is the last time you let a mountain breeze, the expansive play of earth light and shadow, nature’s panorama and the rich senses of the moment guide your day of thoughts and activity? The Mountain Star offers this to you and your loved ones on a daily basis.

The Mountain Star is completely wind and sun powered (with an automatic propane generator backup system). During the warmer months, the home is 'air conditioned' with refreshing mountain air using the operable windows that are in every room of the house, ceiling fans throughout and the operable window blinds throughout...and nights are always refreshingly cool in the warmest of summertime. During the colder months, the Mountain Star stays warm with 3 radiant heaters, a gas 'fire place' and a very efficient, living room pellet stove.

All outdoor photographs on this site were taken directly from the living room or leisure deck of The Mountain Star.

In addition to all the usual, full home amenities, this resort home offers:

• Spacious, 2nd-story wrap-around deck with picnic table, chairs and chiminea (outdoor fireplace)

• Over one acre of fenced “backyard”

• Pet friendly (See rental agrrement)

Hi, my name is 'Flagstaff' Rob Dutton. I am a photographer and musician formerly masquerading as a computer system's analyst. I enjoy meeting people from around the world and have always been an internationalist by nature and upbringing. I am enthusiastic about life and wholeheartedly believe that nature and natural beauty nurture the soul and aid creative and spiritual growth. My enthusiasm for life is directly fueled by my vision and creation of “The Mountain Star”. I designed her and completed construction in 2009. I enlisted a true craftsman to help me build. 'Inspired living' was my guiding principle for the location and design. She was built with lots of love and perseverance, and it excites me to share with others what “The Mountain Star” has to offer.

The Mountain Star sits in a rare and amazing location. It has the beauty and openness of a remote mountain location yet is only 20 miles from the key regional center and resort town of Flagstaff. It is easily accessed via a well-maintained and beautiful, undivided 2-lane highway (AZ 180) that exists almost exclusively to provide thoroughfare to the Grand Canyon. The Mountain Star’s five acres are part of an area known as Kendrick Park, a 180-acre private land “island” in the middle of the Coconino National Forest (the largest stand of Ponderosa Pine in North America). The home itself is directly backed by the national forest.

I believe this home offers the most beautiful and panoramic views available in Northern Arizona. The home’s extensive windowing was designed specifically for the views. The home directly faces the beautiful San Francisco Peaks to the south, Kendrick Mountain to the west, Saddle Mountain to the east and forested hills to the north. Though easily accessed, it is completely ”off-the-grid” and is powered by the sun and the wind. At 2,438 meters (8,000 feet) of elevation, the night sky is glorious.

BEST PART OF OUR TRIP

  • 5 of 5
Absolutely fantastic, magical place. Staying at the Mountain Star was the highlight of our recent vacation. The property is stunning, and Rob was a delight. So organized and the cabin is so cozy, clean and well-equipped for enjoyment. We came to see the Grand Canyon but were torn because we really just wanted to stay in and spend time at this great place. We've been talking about the Mountain Star a lot since we left and are definitely planning on returning, Highly highly recommended!

GREAT PLACE, GREAT VIEW, GREAT OWNER

  • 5 of 5
Our main purpose of the trip was to visit Grand Canyon, and we were so glad that we decided to stay in this cabin instead of a hotel in Grand Canyon.

It's a big house in a prairie with a great view from the nice big deck where you can have breakfast, dinner, star gazing etc. The house is very well maintained, clean, and spacious. We couldn't use the attic because sadly we were all afraid of the height and couldn't handle the ladder! But if you have kids in the group, they would love it up there, it's like staying in a tree house.

There is no internet access or cable TV, but who needs internet while you can enjoy the nature, or do some reading, or just sit outside on the deck at night to look at the stars!

We also brought 3 little dogs and they all loved running around in the fenced back yard (huge) without worrying about any dangerous animals out there.

We were also planning to visit Sedona during the stay but we were unable to do so because there was a big fire in the area then and the road and the national park were closed. But Rob, the owner of the cabin gave us good advises where to go instead, including a hidden spot in Grand Canyon where tourists won't go.

We really wished we could have stayed longer, and I would definitely recommend this place to any friend of mine who is planning to go to Grand Canyon or surrounding area.

BEST FAMILY VACATION EVER!!!

  • 5 of 5
Do not be swayed by the somewhat plain looking exterior; the interior of the Mountain Star is fascinating, beautiful, super comfortable, and the best way to relax after an all day outing to Lake Powell, Grand Canyon, Sedona, or wherever your interests take you. We have two teen boys and a 21 year old daughter, and they all agreed that this was the best vacation we have ever taken as a family!! A Must-See, Must-Stay place for sure!

THE BEST! YOU MUST EXPERIENCE THE MOUNTAIN STAR!!

  • 5 of 5
The Mountain Star is an incredible property with an incredible view and an incredibly nice and friendly owner. My husband and I stayed for three nights and we were longing for more! The house is immaculately kept and very suited to our taste, from the great book collection, satellite radio, tub, comfortable bed, and full kitchen with basic pantry items. The location is convenient to everything we wanted to do from a visit to the Grand Canyon, to Sedona, Flagstaff and places in between. We did three great hikes and Rob provided a very thorough activity guide that will direct you to every imaginable attraction you'd want to visit. I can go on and on and on, but just know that we are already planning our return visit (which will be LONGER) and we can't say enough good things about this property, the beautiful area and the incredibly awesome owner. The Mountain Star is very spiritual and special and it will leave lasting memories and thankful blessings that you were able to experience this beautiful place.
