This cabin is new, and I think we were one of the first to stay there. The cabin was in a vacation community in the woods of Show Low. Shopping at Wal-Mart and restaurants is very close, but we still felt like we were away from it all, which was ideal. The scenery is very beautiful all around, and there is about a quarter mile of pure woods directly behind the cabin. I got the impression that the community is more popular in the summer, but we LOVED it in the winter, and there was almost nobody else there.
The cabin itself was a good size for about 4 people. There is a bedroom with a door that closes, and the loft room has a really low ceiling, which was actually pretty fun to stay in. The loft has a nice Queen size blow-up mattress, but if it were up to me, I would banish the kids to that mattress. The kitchen had everything we needed. 4 plates, bowls, cups, etc., there was a crock pot, blender, juice pitchers, and a couple pots and pans. They had silverware and cooking spoons, can opener, and spatulas, etc.
We wanted a getaway for cheap, and this was perfect. Definitely something we want to do once a year, maybe twice a year.
The city of Show Low was established in 1870. What’s in a name? The legend follows a drawn-out poker game between C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark. The two men decided there was NOT enough space for the two of them in their settlement. They chose to resolve their fates with a game of cards - the winner to stay and the loser to move. Clark said, so the tale goes, “If you can show low, you win.” C.E. Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs and replied, “Show low it is.” And Show Low it remains with Deuce of Clubs Avenue as the main thoroughfare.
Golfing, fishing, hunting, skiing, and hiking are just a few of the activities you enjoy in the Mogollon Rim Country of Northeastern Arizona. Show Low and Fool Hollow Lakes are minutes away. Within easy access find picnic areas, rodeos, festivals, restaurants, shopping, parks and medical facilities. Take day trips to Fort Apache Historic Park, Petrified Forest National Park, Painted Desert or Meteor Crater.
