I am a Dutch girl, born and brought up in England and now currently living in Argentina with my Argentine boyfriend, Alfredo.
We moved to Patagonia two years ago when we bought this unbelievable house, with the idea to run a small, personal boutique style hotel. We have been doing-up the house for two years (Argentina is not known for being organised....!), always conserving the appetite to work with people and to share the unique view and sensation this house has to offer.
We are now expecting our first child, and have decided to offer the house to rent as a whole.
We have really settled into life in the mountains - having learnt how to cope with snow and cold in the winter whilst also making the most of the ski area to snowboard and ski when time allows. We also get out and about as much as possible, always exploring new areas either hiking with our two dogs, or mountain biking.
Since living here we have discovered adventure racing, in which we now compete when possible. These races include running long distances in the mountains - either marked trails or with orienteering, allowing you to pass through places otherwise impossible to reach.
We are social, hardworking, keen, active, easy-going and open-minded.
When we were shown this property, purely by chance as it was not for sale - we left with an imprint of the view offered from every window on our minds, and souls.
We decided to make an offer on the property, and for some unexplained reason everything aligned so that one day the property was ours.
The property has an intricate and interesting life story kept alive by a lady who still lives today in the town, and who we have the pleasure of calling our friend.
Everyone who visits this place loses themselves for some moment whilst looking out of the window - it is something which no photo can portray.
This property is ideal for anyone who is looking to holiday in an area full of things to see and do, whilst staying in a totally unique house which is comfortable and allows one to really feel home away from home.
San Martin de los Andes offers year-round tourism in the form of Fly-fishing, game hunting, skiing, mountain biking, hiking, National Park with natural attractions, water activities and much much more.
The fly fishing and game hunting is said to be of the best in the world. We have excellent contacts and are able to organize these activities in some really spectacular locations.
The ski area offers a range of activities for all abilities, and for families - including a snow park, nursery slopes, huskies, restaurants and off-piste skiing.
The area offers some of the most spectacular scenery, natural beauty and vast range of activities for all to enjoy. Enjoy the route of the seven lakes by car, stopping to enjoy the views and take photos, and having lunch in the 'Garden of Patagonia' Villa La Angostura beside the immense Nahuel Huapi Lake.
Visit natural thermal springs, enjoying a day bathing and picnicing. For the more sport active try mountain biking, downhill biking, hiking, kayaking, kitesurfing, scuba diving ...
For anyone actively in training, looking for real adventure look into any of the number of adventure races organised in the area - an excellent way to pass through places of extraordinay beauty which otherwise are impossible to know. Recommended are La Mision - 160km running/Patagonia Run/Tetrathlon Chapelco - the most important event of the year combining ski, MTB, kayak and run in the middle of winter/Cruce de los Andes a must do, highly recommended an absolutely spectacular event.....
For mountaineers, or people who like exploring there are many peaks to reach including Cerro Colorado, Cerro Malo, and most importantly the immense Lanin Volcano (2 days).
For those looking for a more relaxing trip - there are spas to visit, shopping with beautiful local crafts (wood, wool, ceramic etc), restaurants offering delicious local foods including trout, deer and wild boar, as well as the traditional pizza places. There is a casino, bars and plenty of cafes selling local chocolate as well as coffee.
Also special to the area is the majestic Andean Condor. With some local knowledge it is possible to spot this bird gliding above in the mountains.
