Relax in a quiet mountain retreat for less than anyone else on the mountain. Sit on the redwood deck and enjoy the fresh air, surrounded by hundreds of trees. Walk or bike to the local restaurant, Dome Rock, or Trail of 100 Giants. Fish at Peppermint Creek. Night time will find you gazing at millions of stars on Dome Rock. This developed area has one restaurant and store.

About The Owner

I am a retired school teacher who enjoys being active. I also love traveling. I am so busy that I only spend several days out of the month at my lovely home. I have decided to share it with you. I love animals, fresh air, people, money, travel and my best friend. Please let me open my door to you and yours.

Why The Owner chose Camp Nelson

I built this home 25 years ago when my children were young. They would stay dry in the snow for about a half hour. After the home was built the were warm and dry while I spent hours cross country skiing.

What makes this house unique

So quiet it makes your ears hurt. !00 trees on the 1/3rd acre property. Walk out the back yard and your in the Sequoia National Monument.

Great Vacation, Great home, Great People

We had a great time! It was alot of fun! I was worried that my daughters would not be into this sort of a vacation but I was pleasantly surprised to see how much fun they had. The house is located right down the road from some really amazing things! The trail of 100 giants was unbelievable you will travel almost 4 hours to get to the northern side of the sequoia forest and within 10 miles you have some spots that are way more amazing and much more interactive! The trees on the trail of 100 giants was very impressive and matched anything your would see on the Northern side and there wasn't a single person there.. Dome rock can't be missed, it has an amazing view of the valley below that is really beautiful! We had so much fun, I will most definitely be coming back. The owner and his associate were great people who really went out of their way to make our stay one that was unforgettable. And they succeeded. I really appreciated the feel of the cabin, we were very comfortable and very happy.

A Great Get-Away!

We are a family with 3 (almost 4) young children. We had a 2 week block in which we just wanted to relax and feel little pressure to see everything and go everywhere. This was the perfect place! Our kids have a small timeframe for activities so we didn't want a lot to do. Fishing in Peppermint Creek, the Trail of 100 Giants, Dome Rock and riding bikes up and down the street was perfect for us! Although, there were many more hikes which were more challenging which we would have loved to tackle...it wasn't the time for us this year.

The kids have been talking about returning to "Mel's House" ever since we drove away. :-) I don't know if we will or not, since we love to explore different places, but we know they loved it! As did we.

It was wonderful to have laundry, a full kitchen and space for all our kids. Direct TV was great too since our visit hit during the NBA finals.

Mel was very accomodating to all our requests and was a wonderful host. Thank you for giving us opportunity for a great vacation!

Wonderful stay near Freeman Creek Grove of Giant Sequoia

We spent over a week working in Freeman Creek Grove of Giant Sequoia while staying in the nearby community of Ponderosa. Mel's place was perfect: a cozy, quiet, and relaxing abode after rigorous activities in the forest. And, it's less than a 10 minute drive to the upper trailhead! Mel also provided great information about the home and its surroundings to ensure our stay was optimized. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

Leave the stress behind...

My husband and I were looking for a place to go for Christmas. Mel has been more than helpful, answered all our questions and concerns. The place was quiet and clean. The price was affordable.The sequoias are in the back yard. I had a great time sipping my coffee on the porch, looking at trees, listening to the birds. It was one of the most relaxing holidays...away from shopping and traffic. The drive up was beautiful. We are definitely going back in the summertime. Thanks again, Mel.
