The Owner purchased this house in 1972
The peace and tranquility of this special place are hard to describe. Looking over the canyon and at level with the tree tops offers a very unique perspective and is the perfect place to take in nature. The birds are abundant and their songs fill the air. Nature thrives in our little canyon we enjoy sharing it with Great Horned Owls deer, quail, bobcat, coyote and even the occasional sighting of a mountain lion. On warm days we open the doors and let the sounds, sights and sweet smell of nature in. Our Cocker Spaniel Zeke spends his days playing ball and running in the woods, a dog's paradise.
My husband and I stayed for a week in February. The cottage is roomy and reasonably clean; the kitchen has all the amenities except for a coffee grinder which we brought ourselves. We only had coffee there and went out for the rest of our meals. The couches in the living room were most uncomfortable--dipped in the middle. The fireplace would only light halfway. The owner was friendly enough and came by in a timely manner to help figure that problem out but we thought it was an issue that should have been addressed before we got there. We were provided with one hand towel for the two of us for a week. Also, needed to ask for more toilet paper. We are accustomed to staying in rentals where the owners introduce themselves and we felt that would have been a nice touch. We met the gentleman because we had trouble with the fireplace but we never met his wife. The driveway (which you are informed not to walk down) is very steep as are the stairs down to the cottage. We would not recommend this for older folks. The location is very convenient to Carmel and Monterey. We would recommend eating at Portabello, Katie's Place for great breakfasts (do have the Huevos Rancheros--yum! and the berry topped Belgian Waffle), Flying Fish is wonderful (sea bass, halibut, curry). We hiked Point Lobos--beautiful. The 2 1/2 hour drive to Hearst Castle was made longer and scarier because we took Hwy. 1 and experienced torrential rains and small rock slides on the day we decided to go. The Castle is very interesting and worth seeing as is the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
The cottage itself was okay but was older than it appears in the photos.
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in November while were exploring Big Sur and the Monterey Peninsula. The grocery store is down the street, it is easy access to the major thoroughfare to get down to Big Sur or up to Monterey. It was great to have breakfast and coffee before leaving the house and to come home and make a quick dinner at night. We were so relieved not to have to find somewhere for dinner! We could just come back to the quiet house, change into comfy clothes, shower, and watch some TV. We are very active people during the day so this was so nice! The house is very comfortable and roomy. Plenty of space to stretch out. It is also incredibly clean. You would never know anyone had ever
The kitchen had all we needed. The fireplace is the heater and we were a little concerned at first, but it turned out to be great! We like the bedroom cooler so we just shut the door and it was perfect. We didn't like to park down the driveway because it is steep, but we parked on the street and walked down without a problem (there are stairs leading right to our front door). It was the perfect place for two people and we would absolutely stay here again if we are back in the area!
Downtown Carmel can be crazy busy so coming home to beautiful Enchanted Oaks was a real pleasure. The guest house is lovely with two comfortable couches with views of the oak trees out every window. The kitchen has everything you need to make three meals a day if you choose. We recommend Lafayette, a French bakery in the Barnyard, a shopping center very close by. We also liked 400 degrees in Carmel for burgers and fries. We took a short hike in the MIssion Trail Park with our 7 month old Airedale and really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the area. The dog beach is great too. We highly recommend Enchanted Oaks for its value, amenities and overall serene vibe.
Enchanted Oaks is a very charming, peaceful, private, clean, and comfortable cottage. It is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The owner welcomed us and explained how to use some of the amenities, and told us about the Monterey Bay Aquarium passes. He also told us about Carmel Beach, which is a dog friendly beach. Our dog loved walking on the beach! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway and look forward to our next visit.
We spent 4 days/3 nights at Enchanted Oaks with our 2 Boston Terriers. The amenities were great. The BBQ needs some work and most of the outdoor furniture was falling apart. Inside, everything was excellent. Kitchen well appointed.
My husband and I went to Carmel to celebrate his 40th birthday and our dog's 2nd birthday. We absolutely loved this cottage-like house in the woods, it is so serene and quiet and secluded yet so close to downtown Carmel where there is so much to do. The house was very clean and decorated so tastefully. We really enjoyed just relaxing by the fire, having wine and cooking in every night. This place is a real gem and a great place where you can bring your four-legged furry friend who had just as much fun (maybe more) as we did! We hope to stay here again in the future.
