Mansfield House, a lovely and spacious mountain home, sits on 100+ acres of classic Vermont property. Located at the base of Mt. Mansfield and nearby Smugglers Notch, a vacation here is filled with a wide range of seasonal activities for the active and the relaxed.
There are two sleeping areas at opposite ends of the house. Two bedrooms (queen and king beds) are at the northern end of the house, with a shared bathroom featuring a field stone wall, tile, and walk-in shower. The southern end of the house features a bunkroom and queen bedroom with a shared bathroom featuring a Vermont slate floor, vessel sink, and tub/shower. Also at this end of the house is the Master bedroom with queen sleigh bed and a large en suite bathroom with walk-in shower and sweeping view of Mount Mansfield. There is also a twin bedroom, with an additional twin trundle, and a desk in the Airplane room at this end of the house. All the bedrooms have been recently renovated.
The interior features cathedral ceilings, a large living room with field stone fireplace, and a field stone wall in the dining area, as well as wide oak and brick floors. Lovely views delight visitors from every window.
An open kitchen/dining area is at the center of the house. The 12-person birdseye maple dining room table has a sweeping view of Mt. Mansfield. This open area is wonderful for group cooking and socializing while enjoying the colors of a magnificent sunset.
There is a den off the kitchen with a second fireplace, sofa bed, and a second TV - nice for movies, cozy chats, or quiet reading. This space is also wonderful for children's movies, board games, or a quick escape from the bustle of the household.
We also take great pride in a very clean house - all the rooms are cleaned professionally using only all natural products.
The outdoor hot tub is available for soaking, while gazing up at Mt. Mansfield, or the stars.
A beautiful field above the pond is suitable for a large tent for hosting family reunions, small weddings, and other events.
The two acre swimming pond, sandy beach, beautifully landscaped lawns and gardens, and walking/XC skiing (or snowshoe) trails offer both activity and quiet, suitable for the energetic and the serene.
Looking for the country life and time with family or friends? You will love this setting.
Two very popular Vermont destinations are close:Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory is 30 minutes away, and the Shelburne Museum, a large and fascinating 'living' museum is 45 minutes away. Lake Champlain, UVM, and St. Michaels College are all within easy reach. Hunting is possible in the area but not on the property please. Space for badminton, croquet, and soccer behind house, visible from kitchen and living room. Large swimming pond in front field.
Built in 1965, Mansfield House is owned by a large Vermont family that enjoys seasonal visits here for hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and swimming. Our parents/grandparents designed and built the property, and as a result Mansfield House has the feel of a visit to a family home. Photos of the family decorate one long hallway, and the Airplane room hints of the adventurous aviation history of Granddad's days as a pilot. The gardens and clear view to the mountain still reflect the family's love of beautiful outdoor spaces.
Patricia Evans purchased this house in 1965
The place was great!Really happy with the house and it was plenty big for our group (we didn't even use one of the bedrooms).
We had such a wonderful stay in the house. The house is very tastefully appointed and charming and very clean. It really didn't seem like a rental as it had all sort of nicknacks and books and cookbooks - as if someone really lives there. The kitchen had every sort of cooking utensil you could ever need and in fact it seemed like we were staying at a friend's house rather than a rental. It is located in a quiet lovely spot with mountain and meadow views. Everyone fell in love with the huge black lovable Newfoundland that welcomed us when we arrived. The house is great for two families. We had 4 adults, 2 small children and 6 older teenagers and had more than enough room. The house seems to have 3 sections: two bedrooms on the left side - one with a queen and one with a king - for the adults with a shared bath, which can be closed off from the living room for privacy (or to keep out the noise), a large kitchen and living room section with huge real fireplace, and then another bedroom section on the otherside of the house that sleeps 12 (4 bedrooms and a den with queen pullout couch) - perfect for all the kids to take over that part of the house. The kitchen setup was great for group cooking and chatting. We got all the kids making homemade pizzas around the large center island and they all had a ball. Even our teenagers absolutely loved the house and want to go back - especially for the hot tub and snow rolling at night! Patricia was also so helpful answering questions and even mailing back some shoes we had left there. We all hope to go back next year for a longer stay. Thank you for such a nice memory!
An amazing house that our group has been coming back to for three years now for ski weekends in the area. The house is very cozy and feels very much like a family home as opposed to just a rental property. The kitchen has everything you might need to prepare big meals for a group of 15. Patricia, who manages the property is always very helpful and fast to respond to questions. We are all looking forward to our next stay.
A group of ten friends decided we wanted to celebrate my 30th birthday in Vermont and found the perfect cabin for this occasion. The cabin is very spacious with lots of living space and bedrooms for everyone's privacy. It is rather rustic which adds to the experience. We spent the weekend there cooking big roast dinners as a group, toasting marshmallows on the fire, walking the trails and had a day out in Burlington. Perfect weekend, venue and surrounded by good friends.
We had a wonderful time in Vermont! The house was perfect, very spacious! Back yard was nice, hot tub was great! Weather was nice! Area was beautiful!!
People are already taking about next year. We did not want to leave!!!
Thank you for opening your house to our families!
We stayed here in early May with a group of 10 women. Forgoing the typical bachelorette party, we celebrated our bride to be with a girls retreat at the Mansfield House. The house was unique and comfortable. The location was beautiful. We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen had everything we needed! Plenty of sleeping space for everyone! We enjoyed our time at the house as well as a yoga class with Penny Klein in nearby Essex and a wonderful dinner at The Kitchen Table. You can't go wrong at this lovely home!
This home was huge and in an amazing location. The views from the home were breathe taking! It accommodated all of our needs from snow tubing, sleding, cooking, and relaxing! We had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful neighbor's dog, Amos AKA Bear. It was a perfect weekend in a perfect home.
