This house was pretty much what we were looking for to get away from things for a week. The kitchen was well stocked. There are several bedrooms, although we only used the master upstairs which is large and has a comfortable queen bed. There is a gas fireplace upstairs, but it was not connected. Downstairs is a beautiful fireplace but there was no wood, so we didn't use it. We were lucky as we had warm, clear weather the entire week....that is usually not the case in October. There were a few minor glitches, but nothing that we felt we needed to call about. The house sits on a bluff above Christmas Cove Beach and there are 70 stairs to climb. This, plus the land drops off pretty steeply behind the lovely back deck. Would not recommend this for young kids. Plus, one of the staircases in the house is a tricky spiral which could be dangerous for young kids or older adults. The house is a short drive to downtown Northport with its quaint shops and good sized grocery store. There are a couple of places to eat in town, but we ate our meals at the house. The beach was nice, but again not the best for young kids as the water is full of large rocks. Also, although there is a leash ordinance, no one with large dogs followed the rules and our small dog on his leash was attacked by a large, unattended dog. This was the only bad thing that happened, but it was harrowing. We found it best to walk the beach after sunset or early in the day. Nice view of the Lake from the house, but it would be much better if some of the trees were trimmed. The people at Visit Up North were pleasant and very helpful considering we got there 10 minutes before closing. It is about an hour's drive from Travers City to this house. The entire area is scenic so side roads should be explored.
