The Woodland Star home is situated creekside, on our amazing and unique parcel of land in the small mountain town of Silvergate. This vintage log home has mountain charm with modern conveniences. It's bright and sunny, with large windows, wood floors, and a great 'fool's gold' fireplace! There's 2 bar chairs if you like to hang out in the kitchen, or a fabulous, large, and comfortable dining room table set. The living room is super comfy, with a couch, easy chair, and a large rocking chair and a DVD player with a nice size screen. We do have a bluetooth sound bar if you bring some music.
The cabin sits conveniently off the highway on its large lot, with a stand of evergreen trees in front for privacy. The sunny, West side has a large lawn with an amazing sitting area RIGHT NEXT to the Soda Butte Creek, as well as a mature stand of lodgepole pine trees in the back yard. We have a firepit next to the creek if you like to roast marshmallows!
You can enjoy fishing right from the yard! There's also a huge grassy town park right across the street with swings and teeter totters.
The home has great views of the surrounding mountains. You can often see mountain goats to the south, and mountain sheep to the north at the same time! The king size bed has huge views of a snow capped peak all summer, and the sound of the creek comes in the west window. The huge bedroom also has 2 twin size beds in it. The bedroom is on the south side of the home with great windows looking at the mountains, trees and creek.
This is a fantastic setting for a Yellowstone experience you'll always remember. The little town of Silvergate itself is very charming and you are close to the Lamar Valley, the best place in the Park to view wildlife. Also, the Beartooth Pass to Red Lodge Montana is, according to legendary news anchor Charles Kuralt 'the most spectacular road in America'! There are several hiking trails from the cabin, and 4 different creeks with waterfalls all a 30 min hike or less. Silvergate also has a couple of cafes, general stores, and gift shops. There are several lodges in our little town as well.
We look forward to hosting you and your family !!

John, Kate and Emily Mickus live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They are avid outdoors enthusiasts and love the Silvergate area!! 'This is the place we go to find adventure and wilderness from Jackson Hole! We love to provide a warm and comfortable experience for our guests!'
John and Kate Mickus purchased this house in 1975
We love the Northeast corner of Yellowstone. This area is inspiring to us with its towering peaks up close to the town, and the abundance of wild animals! It is truly a place to connect with nature, and to enjoy some really nice folks as well!
We have the most unique setting in the valley. Our large parcel of land right in the middle of Silvergate has both big views and sunshine as well as the sounds and delight of the creek running through!
My husband and I stayed at this wonderful little cabin in June, 2014 during a two month road trip. We wanted to be convenient to the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone for wildlife watching. It is also at the base of both the Beartooth Scenic Highway and the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway, two of the most beautiful drives in America. The owner was easy to deal with and quick to respond to any questions we had. There was also a caretaker on the property who was there if you needed anything. This cabin has everything you need for a comfortable stay and is within steps to a great little restaurant and across the street from a little store where you can pick up limited supplies, souvenirs, and even rent a spotting scope for your trip into Yellowstone. We had the full gamut of weather, which is to be expected in June, and so spent some time sitting in the sun out by the creek on a couple of warm days and spent a cozy, snowy afternoon by the fireplace on another. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and are already planning another visit.
Great place to stay if you are wanting to see wildlife. Just one mile from the north entrance of Yellowstone where you'll find most of the wildlife located.
We had an awesome time.
I was a little nervous booking online since no one I knew had used VRBO, but was very pleased with the property and would definitely do this again.
Our dream honeymoon was a cosy Log Cabin, with a fireplace, by a stream, and views of the mountains! We awoke each morning to views of snow capped mountains from one bedroom window and a tumbling stream from the other. We had everything we needed in the cabin to cook and get cozy (plenty of wood for our fire and wood burning stove, it was clean with good equipment for cooking The pictures did justice to the accommodation and the listing is accurate. There was one spacious bedroom with a King and 2 singles (great for families). Silvergate & Cooke City (3 miles away) are friendly quaint towns with fun shops and good places to eat.The location is fab' for exploring Yellowstone, hiking and wild life spotting (we saw a brown bear). The owners are kind, helpful people who patiently answer your questions and help with local info'. We had a great vacation and would happily recommend this holiday home to others.
We had a great little stay in the cabin for 6 days at the end of May. There was a little snow on the ground in Silver Gate so the weather was cool most nights. We enjoyed the open fire in the living area and the electric fire (which looks like a nice gas fire) in the bedroom. The views from the bedroom are spectacular. We woke each morning looking up at the majestic Ampitheater Mountain! The patio on the cabin has a great little fire pit right next to the river and a small lawn with a patio table, chairs and umbrella. It was a little cool for dinner outside but would be very nice in the summer. The cabin is plenty roomy for two people with a nice little lounge area with TV and a small kitchen with a small breakfast bar. The bathroom is also nice and well furnished. We loved the surrounding area too. It's about 3 miles from the Yellowstone Park entrance and right next door to Silver Gate Cafe which serves great food. I would definitely return to the cabin another time. It's conventiently located for plenty of walking, hiking and other outdoor pursuits.
We stayed at this property as part of a trip to America for our honeymoon (from Scotland). We loved our stay, the cabin was well equipped and warm even though our stay was late in the season. Both the owners were really helpful with our booking contacting us prior to our visit with an update on a road closure and once we were there to ensure everything was okay. The area is fantastic and although most businesses had closed up for the season suited our plans to do some hiking in Yellowstone. First night there we heard wolves howling and next day saw them in the park. We would not hesitate in recommending this property and would love to visit again......
The listing is accurate and the property is as described. We had rented the cottage for a month. Everything would have been great if there were not maintenance issues. The phone was out of order due to a chewed cord, the cleaning was minimally done as we discovered when we looked under the beds(due to the following problem) and lifted the throw rugs to sweep the floor and we had a problem with rodents inside. The owner lives several hours away and doesn't have a great backup person to call on. This is a very small town and I guess services are not readily available. After we reported the problems he did come and set traps but it takes awhile to catch them. He did give us some restaurant gift cards(about equal to a nights lodging) for our inconvenience. He was to return the following weekend but didn't show. We left several days early due to our discomfort
Relaxing on our lawn furniture with the creek running by! or take in the views and breezes from the gorgeous hand hewn log cabin !
