Cayman Brac Bungalow Rental Photos and Description

Bungalow, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

The beach house is situated on 2 1/2 acres with over 500' of white sandy beach. The property is ideal for those who wish to relax in a hammock in the shade of a cabana, or those who wish to dive the wall a short distance from shore. Locals claim this is the best beach for shelling, strolling and watching the sunset over Little Cayman. We are the last property on the end of the island. Convenience and tranquilty make this truly a destination for the romantic and adventurous. We are equiped for scuba divers, with rinse and drying stations. Our water is town water and perfectly safe for drinking and cooking. The covered porch beckons for a cold beer or a Pina Colada while overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the sunset over Little Cayman. You have no neighbours. If you are so inclined you can split a coconut, have a hermit crab race or stroll through our paths carved amongst the Sea Grapes. This peace of heaven is new and ready for rent for the first time. We are close to the major resorts and restaurants if you need a 'neon' fix and far enough away that you can play Castaway. You will enjoy your stay and you will not want to leave.

Our beach is the turtle nesting beach on Cayman Brac. June through November turtles can be observed in the evening scooping out the sand preparing for their egg laying. Check out the tropicalrunaway website to see a photo of a giant green sea turtle on our beach. We also have nesting Loggerhead and Hawksbill sea turtles. Other resident wildlife on the island that are fun to observe are the nesting Brown Boobies on the bluff in March and April and the large Iguanas that live down the road year round.

The bedroom has a pillow top king bed, that can be split into twins. No tossing and turning all night because of a hard lumpy bed. There is a large closet, a generous supply of towels and other linens. The bathroom has an extra large shower. The great room has a well equipped kitchen, a flat screen TV, dining table, and a convertible couch that pulls out to a queen size bed.

The kitchen is well equipped..

The beach house is a shared ownership. Henry and Heather are from Picton, Ontario. Karen and Ray are from North Vancouver, BC. Henry and Ray have been good friends since childhood. We have travelled together extensively, since we all share a love of the water, diving, snorkeling and boating.

The Owner purchased this bungalow in 2009

Cayman Brac is a unique island. We enjoy the safety, diving and welcoming friendliness of the 'Brackers'.

The secluded location, with no neighbours, but the convenience of all the West End has to offer, shopping district, restaurants, banks, dive operations and the lagoon.

VBRO should have a one use per lifetime 6 star rating for places like this!!!!

It is hard to say what was best as they were all six stars: The owners, the property, the location, the activities, the relaxation?

The Owners: Karen and Ray are the best!!! They made us feel so welcome during the selection process and through our stay. We could see how well thought of they are on the island and could only wish that every VRBO owner was as helpful and nice. They truly went out their way to make this feel like our place during our stay.

The Property: WOW! The house was amazing. I travel almost every week and have never slept better. The bed is outstanding (might be the best feature). The views.. spectacular. This place was novocain for the brain. We loved the kitchen with nice appliances, dishes, and pans. Not the cheap stuff you often find at rentals. Harvesting fresh coconuts, seeing lizards and hermit crabs and world class snorkeling out the front door. We logged many hours in the cabana and on the beach totally relaxed. Karen and Ray have spent countless hours making the property a tropical paradise..totally relaxing. They have thought of so many details to make this perfect that I cannot list them all.

The location: I loved that this property was alone at the end of the island. We did not see a single person while sitting on our private beach. We were two minutes by car (you should rent one) from shopping, food, Barry's Jerked Chicken (a must!) everything was so close. Front door snorkeling with sea turtles was awesome! The sunsets and views are world class.

Activities: What do you want to do? It is there! Hermit crab races, caves, swimming, snorkeling? I only wish this property had been around when my kids were young. Perfect for them.

I am gushing with this review, but they deserve it. We are already planning out trip back to stay in December. Not a single problem with the trip, but I am certain that Karen and Ray would have made everything right if there had been. Rent with confidence. We felt so safe on the island.. The people are very friendly..I do not think I can go to a "resort" again after this experience. A much different type of relaxation.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Karen and Ray for sharing your labor of love!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review. I find the beds very comfortable too and I am surprised more guests don't notice that. Having traveled a fair amount and having a husband that has had 3 back surgeries, having a good bed is essential for me. I think the advantage of staying in a true VRBO (by this I mean this truly is our home) you find the kitchen will be very well equipped compared to the usual rentals. I have used VRBO myself when traveling and have never actually ended up staying in the owner's home where they live part time, except once in Hawaii. I live in Brac about 5 months of the year and I like my comforts, a big bonus for guests.
I enjoyed meeting you both so much. As I told you, sometimes you meet people and there is an immediate connection and you are those kind of people. Your tolerance of the mess due to the pool installation was amazing and your ability to adapt and enjoy yourselves so thoroughly in spite of it shows you are a very seasoned traveler that handles the twists and turns that come with the adventure of travels. I look forward to your next visit. Keep in touch.

We loved the location and beach at the Hawksbill House. Beautiful sunsets and watching the planes land was great each evening. We even got to see an awesome rainbow one morning. We have stayed at several places at Brac and this is our favorite. We are already looking forward to booking our next vacation at the Hawksbill House.
Owner's Response: I want to thank you for taking the time to write a review. Your insight is truly valuable for future guests, as you stated you visited Brac on numerous occasions and found our property to compare very well to other spots. I am pleased to be your "favourite" and promise to keep adding to the property and carefully maintaining it to be sure that spot continues to be earned. I think when you return you will find the swimming pool a fantastic addition.

The property is very conveniently located close to the airport and a lot of the amenities. The little house was very clean and well stocked, much thanks to Mrs. Clark for having some food in the house for us as arriving on Sunday much of the island is closed.
If you are a diver I would think that this is heaven for you. We are not divers but really enjoyed watching the goings on in front of the cabin every day as the dive boats came and went.
You do need a rental car if you want to view much of the islands sights but that is not to say that there is not a fare number of things to do and places to eat within walking distances. The little Brac Snack Shack does up a not too bad burger.
Speaking of food, having the fresh eggs every morning was wonderful and with the exception of the one hen who seemed reluctant to give up the eggs, they were easy to obtain as the coop is right behind the cabin (don't worry, no smell). And I would be remiss not to mention Steve, our Wahoo connection, for some of the best fish and conch we have every cooked up. The kitchen in the house is well stocked for cooking, there are several stores on the island to grocery shop and as a result, we only ate out two times while we were there. Prices for groceries and eating our are somewhat high compared to other islands we have visited so if you know that going in you won't be shocked.
There are two properties at Tropical Runaway separated by enough vegetation that you have no problems with privacy. Each property has its own beach hut where you can sit and enjoy the ocean and all the little creatures that come along like the Cayman lizards and the Geckos There are a large population of Soldier Crabs to keep you entertained as well and plenty of song birds.
The island is very small so nothing is really far away so you can plan something for every day without worrying about a long drive to get there.
The beach is sandy but just off the shore it is rocky and there are a lot of sea urchins. If you don't bring along your own water shoes there are a variety of sizes at the big house to chose from and I would recommend you use them. Once out in the front, the snorkeling is excellent.
All in all, we had a wonderful visit to the very friendly and peaceful island of Cayman Brac and would recommend it to anyone just needed to recharge those batteries and to those who don't mind the serenity without the need to be busy or entertained the whole time you are there.

Owner's Response: Your thoughtful and inclusive review is very much appreciated. You certainly captured the essence of the island. It is for the traveller who knows how to fill their days and enjoy the slower pace. The island is conducive to relaxation. Did you find the "fish bowl" on your snorkels in front of the property. The abundance of schooling fish on the reef there always impresses and the swim throughs are fun and challenge your breath holding skills. Once again thank you for your wonderful review and on your next visit the pool will be installed and running to add more spots around the property to unwind.

The house and location were perfect, exactly what we were looking for: private, quiet, non-touristy. It was much hotter than we had anticipated; according to the locals we were getting July temperatures...obviously no fault of the owners. The patio was in lovely shade the entire day until just before sunset, but not much breeze. Our biggest disappointment was the beach. Karen had told us it was rocky, but I had not realized that meant everywhere. I have severely deformed feet, aging knees, and poor balance. Getting into the water was tricky, getting out was a challenge. Water sandals were not enough for the hundreds of urchins; sides of the feet were still vulnerable. Then, once out of the water there was the mini mountain of shifting sand to climb back up onto the beach--even tougher with a kayak in tow! (That being said, the young folks next door had none of my problems.) I must add that once I was in the crystal clear water, I never wanted to leave; the waves were gentle and I just kept floating, seldom moving far from where I had was heavenly. Karen was wonderful; we could not have asked for a more attentive owner.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I am so disappointed to get our first 4 out of 5 review. I am sorry the water did not work out for you. Too bad you didn't use some of the full protection water shoes that are provided. I agree sandals do not work, water shoes are strongly recommended on my website and information packages. We work so hard to keep our property in top notch shape and with the force of the ocean constantly changing the beach (isn't it amazing how it is different every morning?) there are some things beyond our control. You must admit compared to the other properties on the island our water entry is still by far superior. You will have to give us a try again when the pool is installed and you can float more easily.

My husband and I spent two fabulous weeks at Hawksbill House. The house was well equipped and comfortable. Being right on the beach was wonderful - we loved the sound of the waves, especially when going to sleep. The island is quiet, but has caves to explore and interesting hiking trails. Our hosts, Karen and Ray, were always friendly and helpful which made our stay in Cayman Brac even more memorable. Our stay exceeded our expectations and we would return!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We work hard at keeping the houses and property up to standard to keep our 5 star rating streak alive. Your cooperation during your stay of letting the solar panels go up on the roof was unexpected and so appreciated. Thanks again. I look forward to seeing you back once the pool and the solar pump are installed. You are the perfect guests.
