Aunt Muriel came to Kanab to visit her sister in the 30’s, married a cowboy named Billy, and never left. In the 70’s she built her dream house on the same block as her sister, Ida Riggs, owner of the Cross R Ranch House (Wonderful Historic Craftsman Bungalow).
The one story Comfortable Brick Rambler, newly renovated, consists of three bedrooms, two with queens and one with twins, located two blocks from downtown Kanab. It also has two baths, a laundry, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The living room has newly installed hardwood floors, a wood burning fireplace, a flat screen television and a DVD player. There are comfy sofas to relax on and movies to enjoy.
The yard is fully fenced and landscaped and has a patio on which our guests can barbecue. Muriel was a prize winning gardener and the yard still reflects her touch.
Kanab is a perfect base from which to explore Southern Utah. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary are just a few of the many scenic areas to visit. A special time to visit Kanab is during Western Legends Roundup usually the last weekend in August.
Owners are Dianne and Lynn Riggs, residents on Minnesota and co-owners of the Cross R Ranch House (Wonderful Historic Craftsman Bungalow). They bought the house in 2007 from Muriel’s estate.
For large groups, consider renting the Cross R Ranch House ( http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p293990 ) in addition to Muriel’s Place. They are on the same block, one house apart.

Kanab is a great place to stay and visit Best Friends Animal Society, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, and Escalate Staircase National Monument.
Muriel's Place is a well equipped rambler style home with hardwood floors in the Living room, Kitchen, Dining area. It has carpet in the Bedrooms and tile in the Bathrooms and Laundry area.
My family stayed at this property from May 3 to May 9 and we have a wonderful stay. SO much better than staying in a hotel room! This property is easy to find and not far from the small town amenities. The inside was perfect- comfortable living room, updated bathrooms, nice kitchen, cooking and eating utensils, tons of spices, lots of towels, laundry detergent, etc. I loved that they allowed sleepover dogs from Best Friends Animal Society since that was one thing I really wanted to do. They even had a dog dish set up and cute welcome mats that said "wipe your paws." :)
The backyard was gorgeous and all fenced in with a nice swing and nice patio furniture- we spent a lot of time eating and relaxing outside. Our only complaint, however, is that we did not know about the "goat heads" (sticky burrs with 3 prongs) that were in the rocks in the yard - luckily we didn't try to go barefoot but our Best Friends sleepover dog didn't like walking on the rocks (before we realized they were there!)! So if you have a dog that will be out in the yard, make sure you're aware of those painful little spikes. As we understand it those are difficult things to get rid of in Kanab, but a little warning would be good.
Overall, a very nice place to stay and we had an excellent first trip to Kanab! I'd definitely stay here again.
We were in the wonderful town of Kanab for the Greyhound Gathering. This home was a great place to stay. Very comfortable and our greyhounds enjoyed running around the backyard. The location was perfect and the owner was very easy to work with. Thank you for having us and we hope to rent again next year!
This is my second stay at Muriel's place and we love it! Three friends visiting Best Friends and Zion with three bedrooms and two baths are perfect. We so appreciate the dog friendly accommodations as we had sleepover dogs from Best Friends each night. With the convenient location two blocks from town, the fenced back yard and homey feel, I will not only recommend this property to friends but will book this house for my next visit to Kanab. Thank you for sharing your property with us and making it so easy to book and stay!
I loved staying at Murial's Place for 10 days in October. The house was spotless when I checked in and the yard was perfect since I travel with dogs. The weather was picture perfect every day and the view of the red cliffs from the backyard was lovely. The yard is part pea gravel and was extremely easy to keep clean. The furnishings were very nice and there was a washer/dryer and dish washer which made vacation chores very simple. The location was great -- very close to the center of Kanab and the neighborhood was quiet and safe. I thoroughly enjoyed the craftsman style home and it was charming and cozy. The kitchen was very well equipped if you like to cook. I don't but I could have if I had wanted to. I will definitely return. It is one of the best rentals I have used for vacation.
We felt so at home at Muriel's Place. The house was very clean and comfortable. Our dogs enjoyed the fenced back yard. We enjoyed the patio and grill and landscaping. This was our 3rd time in Kanab and our 3rd time to volunteer at Best Friends. We would definately stay here again. The owners are always helpful and our deposit was returned promptly. Susan
It was pretty much the vacation from Hell. First full day of our vaction (before we came to Kanab) my husband broke his ankle. Last full day, my daughter and I both got a nasty stomach bug. Thank goodness for having a really comfortable place to call home during our time in Kanab. The house was immaculately clean and the beds were very comfortable. There was plenty of space. The kitchen was well appointed with just about every kind of applicance you could want, including a really good blender (margaritas, anyone?). I was a little worried about the "swamp cooler" type air conditioner, but the house actually stayed as cool as we could possibly want it, even on 100-degree days. Being able to do laundry easily was such a nice change from staying in a hotel. Especially given the whole "stomach bug" thing (enough said).
As far as Kanab goes, we keep getting drawn back to that area. Maybe we'll retire there some day! Maybe Lynn and Dianne will consider selling in another 20 years or so! ;) Such a great little town and with so much to do within an easy drive. And I think it maybe be the most breath-taking scenery I have ever seen, and I've done a fair amount of traveling.
So, Kanab and Muriel's Place are a great combination, even on a vacation where it seems like everything is going wrong.
