Photos and Description of the Sherman vacation lodge rental
Up To 6-bedrooms And 5 Bathrooms; Almost 8000 Sq. Ft In All Including Balcony

The Lodge @ River Oaks, is a one of a kind alpine-style golf home and could be your address this spring thru fall to entertain, play golf and tennis, enjoy the clubhouse with grill-bar and alfresco dining, swimming and gym facilities in the beautiful southern new england countryside. Candlewood lake, the Appalachian trail, Housatonic River and Bull’s Bridge are also on your doorstep as are the lovely (and sometimes lively!) western connecticut country towns of “quintessential Kent”, New Preston, Washington Depot and Cornwall etc.

Only 1.5 hours from Manhattan, the lodge is offered tastefully furnished and managed by the owner who lives close by. Depending on the precise stay duration (minimum 2 weeks) and make-up of your party, the owner’s membership of the club will make playing golf and enjoying the club’s other facilities extremely cost-effective, especially compared with the cost of playing golf on long island, in weschester or southern connecticut where flexible tee times are also harder to arrange. Apart from weekends (member's competitions) and Mondays (corporate events) the course is serenely peaceful.

To appreciate the ambience of the lodge and its position on the golf course etc., please see our beautiful photographs. You’ll notice the lodge is extremely private, surrounded by mature cedar and oak trees and yet occupies prime position above the second fairway a short walk or cart ride from tennis courts and the clubhouse.

Views from all rooms, including over the trout pond and the most entertaining short 17th hole across the pond, are fantastic. Wrapped in extensive (c.2000 sq. Ft.), mainly undercover mahogany decking, the lodge’s interior is then almost 6000 sq. Ft., almost infinitely configurable – up to 6 large bedrooms and still providing 3000 sq. Ft. Of open entertaining space.

About Graham

The Lodge is owned and built in Swiss alpine style by its owners who are golf members and will proactively manage the property and any issues that might arise from just up the road.

Graham purchased this lodge in 2005
Why Graham chose Sherman

We were attracted to this southerly-most part of New England in the late 90s having moved from the UK to work in Manhattan. It reminded us of the most scenic part of ('Olde') England - specifically, the Cumberland 'Lake District' but without all the traffic!

Now we can offer probably the top golf residence (and most cost-effective golfing package) on a beautiful private course close to New York. Phil Michelson praised the course as 'very beautiful and challenging' when hosting a Pro-Am qualifier day.

The clubhouse is fully equipped to keep you fit - swimming pool, gym and tennis - and will serve meals throughout the season (April-December).

The Lodge itself is tastefully furnished with quality beds etc. It is strictly a four bedroom design but having been built with a huge fully finished lower level basement (with large bathroom), can be easily converted to six-bedrooms and still retain more than 2000 sq. ft. of great room / living space, a gourmet kitchen, up to 12 person dining room / open-plan entertaining / common areas.

The Lodge is unbeatable if you not only love golf but enjoy the peaceful ambience that only your own 'mountain cabin' or ski lodge can deliver.

What makes this lodge unique

Uniquely, the Club @ River Oaks has only 60 residential sites, all about 2 acres and compared with other golf communities, positioned unobtrusively blending into the beautiful surroundings.

We chose the location for the Lodge on a promontory overlooking the pond and were able to position the Lodge for optimum sun light that enters the cathedral window at dawn and dusk and with porches that provide sunny and shaded outdoor living at all the right times.

Whether entertaining or seeking a restful break at one with nature and in the peace of the countryside, the ambience of the Lodge is unique to this type of timber and stone property and not usually available so close to New York.

The owner is ready and able to accommodate special requests whether involving extra beds, grill equipment or, to help maximize your vacation time, just advising you on the multitude of possibilities and local services that might improve the quality of your stay.
