A retired school principal and his teacher wife-and-former-sweetheart spent the last 8 years renovating this 1832 office building built by Samuel Cunard, the founder of Cunard Steamship Lines. Before that we worked in schools in three provinces, one territory and two countries.
Ron Arnold purchased this apartment in 2004
One side of my family descended from Ship Hector settlers. We were looking for a retirement project in the Maritimes and this building needed some work, was located on the harbour and was empty. Kind of a no brainer!
Cunardhouse is a piece of classic Maritime architecture and turned out to be a piece of history as well. Looking onto the harbour on the second floor are three crooked windows that make it stand out in all the old photos of the waterfront. They present a unique 'face' and we think we know their story.
Stayed 3 nights at the Cunard house. Based here and traveled to Cape Breton.
House is well equipped, clean and very comfortable.
Pictou is charming. Loved Sharon's place for breakfast.
Ron and Ginny are the perfect host!!
We had a very relaxing stay at Cundard House and Ron was very helpful. The house is spacious, very clean and fully equipped with all the amenities you need. Extra touches included free wi-fi, satellite TV, laundry facilities with detergent and even loaner beach towels for the kids! The town of Pictou is very quaint with plenty of restaurants to choose from. The price was reasonable and the location was central to many areas including PEI which we did a day trip excursion to.
Ron seemed genuinely interested in the feedback to make the house better and even brought us a teapot based on someone else’s suggestion. We definitely recommend a stay at Cundard House.
The apartment was tastefully decorated and very clean, Great location close to all amenities. Good place for seniors, no stairs, however handrails in the bathroom would be beneficial . Also a big tea pot would be nice for those who drink tea not coffee. Enjoyed our stay, proprietors very helpful and friendly!
Hector Heritage Quay and 18th century ship Hector are 60 metres away and are part of the view.
