The Lehunani cottage is located near Kurtistown in Hilo. Headed south bound, going towards Volcano National Park at about 2000 feet of elevation, located at the 18 mile marker. Lehuananai is a 2 story cottage nestled on a little hilltop surrounded by ohi’a trees filled with red lehua blossoms, white gingers and hapu’u ferns that are all native to our Big Island. It was built with lots of Aloha in 2008. You can feel the magical energy that surrounds Lehuanani. I’m so grateful and blessed to share this beautiful, tranquil cottage with others. Hawaiian style, sharing the Aloha with the world.
Welcome to Lehuanani cottage!! Mahalo for choosing to stay at Lehuanani cottage. This property was passed on to me from my grandparents who struggled to pay monthly for it 40 years ago. I’m so blessed that I was given the gift to build a little cottage 6 years ago. Lehuanani is a very magical place to be. My goal was to build it and I lived in Lehuanani for 2 years. I then traveled around different parts of Asia. My hopes and dreams were that one day I would be able to share this amazing space with others so that they can enjoy the magic that I experience whenever I feel the need to replenish my manao (power).
Laura Gregory purchased this cottage in 1973
Here you are, surrounded by the ohi’a trees that are sacred to Pele, the goddess of fire. At different times of the year, the red Lehua blossom are full blossom and are very special to us Hawaiians. These are our plants of hula to be worn by the dancers and used to adorn them. As Hawaiians, it is customary to ask nature before picking and we only take a little from each tree. Never taking all and leaving nothing behind. Lehua is the flower of the Big Island and Lehuanani means beautiful flower.
Lehuanani is a peaceful, secluded, quiet getaway from life's daily grind. It is "away from it all" enough to allow you to breathe in once again what is important in life. We were fortunate to have our arrival graced by the personal check in from the owner who was so warm and welcoming. The cool air, the singing birds, and the scents of the forest capture your imagination and soul. The sights of the tall 'Ohi'a, Hapu'u, and groves of ginger surrounding the house make you pause. Our family spent many hours hiking the trails of Volcano National Park right up the road, only to come home to a cozy cottage home that begged for you to sit on the porch and just be. Our children loved exploring through the trees and plants of the yard in hopes of sights and pictures not found in our everyday life. Inside Lehuanani, the amenities were perfect for us...clean, done simply, and with elegance. If you are open, Lehuanani will touch your senses. If you are looking for a moment in life to stop and breathe....Lehuanani and the people that care for her will be your balm.
Almost too good to share with the world! Lehuanani Hideaway is a special retreat; hidden down an orchid strewn road, amongst lush foliage and ohi'a trees, this is a tranquil place to center your soul and find peace with your existence.
A very private location, with all the basic amenities you'd ever need: a large ground level lanai, electricity/propane powered home, rain-water catchment [on demand hot water works great], full kitchen with all the kitchenware you'd need to make your getaway meals. The Hideaway has a full bathroom with pebble stone inlay concrete floors, living room area has full size daybed and is decorated with a great amount of aloha-zen.
The master bedroom is a large flat consisting of the entire second floor and a lanai; it has the most comfortable and luxurious king size bed I've ever rested in and also boasts a second full size daybed, satellite TV and beautiful interior decoration. The photographs depict this retreat accurately, though at the time of our visit there was the 3rd bed [as described in the master flat].
It is very close to Volcano National Park, Hilo and a short drive to the ocean. There are restaurants in Volcano Village, just up the road that are convenient. Before finalizing my decision I had great dialogue with the manager and owner, who responded quickly to my questions. Booking was quite easy, I was able to do it safely and secure online. Adventure and discovery awaits you...in a place I'd love to call home always.
